  1. Wife brag: Wife is finishing her Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy in December. Without even applying, her #1 hospital choice contacted her to offer her a position, and they want her to start right after graduation in December as opposed to waiting until after she takes her certification exams in March. They said they did it because they weren't going to be allowed to hold the position open until March and didn't want to risk not having another open position for her before someone else hired her. On my front yesterday I had what I considered to be a throwaway interview. It was to manage a call center for a third-party shareholder services firm. I almost didn't even apply for the job because while I have extensive call center experience, none of it is in the field of financial services and I've been told by other companies that's a nonstarter. I almost cancelled the interview because of the traffic involved getting there. But I went anyway and it was a fantastic interview and I think my odds are better than 50/50 that I'll get an offer.
  2. Jose ain't the sharpest knife in . . . the place where they keep the knives.
  3. No, the season can't end yet. After OSU takes down MSU, Michigan will rise from the dead to upset hated rival OSU, both saving Brady Hoke's job and moving Notre Dame up into a playoff position. A perfect day for everybody.
  4. Playoff committee rankings: 1 Mississippi St 2 Florida St 3 Auburn 4 Mississippi 5 Oregon 6 Alabama 7 TCU 8 Michigan St 9 Kansas St 10 Notre Dame
  5. I'm not going to venture a guess on an exact trade, but I predict that the first trade is made by November 7.
  6. Oh, come on. It has to be 99.99999%.
  7. The Sox will take him back if he is best value available among all the options. It will be purely a business decision.
  8. It may very well be backloaded. I was lazy and just divided his total number by the four years.
  9. Buehrle was 21st in fWAR last year and is owed $14.5M. You couldn't sign a free agent as good as that for any less. If Toronto is willing to eat salary that's even better. Only downside is that he only has 1 year left on his contract. If you can get Brandon McCarthy on a reasonable 3 year deal he's probably a better option than Buehrle. Of course, if there is a sucker out there who will take Danks and pay at least half his salary, then maybe the Sox can do both.
  10. Could you not invent wOBA+ and scale it to 100?
  11. I agree that OPS is flawed because OBP is a bit more valuable than SLG, but I also think that is context dependent on how you are trying to fit a guy in with the rest of the team. If you already have a team with decent OBP but lacking pop, you might favor SLG even though OBP is generally move valuable.
  12. I get what you're trying to say, but I don't agree with it. A right-handed Yankee getting the same park adjustment as a left-handed Yankee is getting f***ed right up the ass.
  13. That makes a lot of sense. Do the Rays/Expos stay in the AL or do we get some sort of realignment that gets them back in the NL?
  14. Seems like it should go in the reverse order. Parks can definitely affect types of hits differently, and can affect left/right handed hitters differently. Triples are clearly harder to come by in the Cell than at Comerica, and homers are clearly much easier to come by at Yankee Stadium for lefties than righties. If we are just blanketly saying that the Cell inflates offense by 4%, then that doesn't give me much confidence in that system. Seems pretty lazy to me.
  15. In years that USC is not a Top 10 team, "those fans" are about 60% ND fans.
  16. ASU should be a tough game, but if ND is 10-1 with a playoff spot on the line, USC will be a total beatdown. They aren't very good. I'd give Louisville a better chance than USC at beating ND.
  17. The schedule won't have any Top 15 wins, but the combined grind of going through next level teams like Stanford, ASU, Louisville and USC ought to count for something. But yeah, ND's schedule has collectively wet the bed this year. You can definitely hold ND's schedule against them, as long as you aren't also one of the people whining that ND is dropping Michigan from the schedule. All that said, I'm projecting what I think the committee would do, which is not necessarily how I would rank them.
  18. Mississippi losing to LSU greatly increases the chances that there will be less than 2 SEC teams with less than 2 losses.
  19. Absolutely 100% get Buehrle if the Jays are eating money. All you people who don't want another lefty are just right-handed people who are just terrified of the 10% of us who are superior.
  20. Playoff/Bowl projections: Sugar Bowl: 1) Florida St 13-0 vs 4) Notre Dame 12-1 Rose Bowl: 2) Alabama 12-1 vs 3) Oregon 12-1 Peach Bowl: 5) Michigan St 12-1 vs 7) Auburn 10-2 Cotton Bowl: 6) TCU 11-1 vs 8) Mississippi 10-2 Fiesta Bowl: 9) Mississippi St 10-2 vs 11) Oklahoma 10-2 Orange Bowl: 10) East Carolina 11-1 vs 20) Clemson 9-3
  21. Coaches poll: 1 Mississippi St 2 Florida St 3 Alabama 4 Auburn 5 Michigan St 6 Oregon 7 Notre Dame 8 Georgia 9 Mississippi 10 TCU AP Poll: 1 Mississippi St 2 Florida St 3 Alabama 4 Auburn 5 Oregon 6 Notre Dame 7 Mississippi 8 Michigan St 9 Georgia 10 TCU
  22. Well, s***, Chicago is right in the middle of the market so that's not good news. Sounds promising for the Red Sox, Marlins, Padres and Mariners though.
