  1. Better option than Avi? Maybe, but a team is going to have a very hard time winning with a .650 OPS corner OF, regardless of how good he is at defense and baserunning.
  2. My guess for the September call-up list: Carroll E Johnson Putnam (if/when he comes off the DL) Brantly L Garcia M Johnson Maybe Beck if Putnam isn't going to be back
  3. Robertson has a 147 ERA+ and a 2.09 FIP. I know he has a big contract, but I'm not giving him up for anything less than a couple pretty promising middle IF and/or C prospects.
  4. I wish the BIG would stop bending over for the SEC. Every time they play an early-season "neutral field" game it's in an SEC state. Grow a pair and make them play a game at Lucas Oil or Ford Field.
  5. Up until 3 months ago, I thought Hillary's election was a foregone conclusion. Her nomination still is, but I'm starting to think that one of Rubio, Bush or Kasich might have a chance against her. Of course the odds of one of those three getting their nomination is pretty small, so the odds are still greatly in Hillary's favor. I'd bet on Hillary at even money, and maybe even at odds as low as 2:3
  6. It's not a comfortable subject for discussion among Christians, but don't forget that along with the belief of a good supernatural being, there is also belief in a bad supernatural being. As humans we are incapable of being perfect and as such, that gives the bad supernatural being some level of control over the world. Another thing that gets neglected is the belief that no matter how good you think some experiences in life are, it is incomparable to the experience of the afterlife. I realize that isn't going to change your opinion much, but just pointing out that the belief system does have an explanation for the bad things that happen in the world.
  7. The "other" is quickly developing a history. The number of "friends" who have harassed me and degraded me for NOT superimposing a rainbow over my Facebook profile pic has grown so high I stopped counting. I don't change my FB photo for ANY cause, but somehow I'm an asshole because I won't change it for their favorite cause. I have an aunt who proclaimed that she was defriending anybody on FB who didn't have a rainbow in their profile pic, changing her mind only when her son refused to do it and she decided she didn't want to miss out on pictures of her grandkids. Now a guy has killed two people after going on a racist heterophobic rant.
  8. Yes, they're totally different. One is politically correct and the other isn't.
  9. Has to be conduct-related right? No way you fire a coach for performance issues 7 days before the first game.
  10. For most, it's a pride of regional affiliation that has nothing to do with history. The shooter WAS from Virginia and he did claim two victims yesterday. Haven't seen the Straight Rights Movement making up any ground yet though. Not as long as the oppressive rainbow flag continues to fly.
  11. Both flags are used as symbols of pride in a certain status/heritage by some and hatred of those who aren't a part of that status/heritage by others.
  12. But if it's a hate crime against straight white people then that's OK. That kind of hate is allowed.
  13. Wait, so banning a flag because one shooter identified with the flag is a bad idea?
  14. I don't know that there will be an official investigation, but I think there will be enough backlash to put a dent in Subway's business. I can see some of their least profitable stores closing or switching to another chain. I feel bad for the people who own the Subway by me. They're great people, they designate one day each month for each elementary school in the area and donate all of their profit from the day to the school.
  15. So how many more kids suffered because she wasn't willing to risk her job to go public with this info back in 2008?
  16. The shooter had a rainbow flag on his car. Need to ban the rainbow flag in order to prevent more shootings.
  17. If the Sox need to trade pitching, I would prefer to see what I can get for Rodon and/or Adams rather than trading Q. To me Q is now a proven #1/2 starter. I think it's hard to get fair value in return for him. I think there's a better chance at getting fair value for Rodon and/or Adams.
  18. I've already gone much farther into this debate than I should have. I'm not convincing anybody to change their beliefs, nor is anybody convincing me to change mine.
  19. That's why I quantified with the term "more or less". I think the bible has errors and exaggerations just like any other historical account might.
  20. I need to do some digging, but I think I have a HS friend whose PhD thesis basically tore that book apart.
  21. God has a problem with lots of things, including a lot of things that are done by the large number of Christians yelling and screaming about this one thing.
  22. It has come from quite a bit of study of both theology and history. It mostly boils down to (1) the time of Moses is when the bible transitioned from a recording of stories that had been handed down over generations to an eyewitness or second hand account of events shortly after they occurred and (2) archaeological evidence and extra-biblical historical documents confirming several details of stories contained in that time frame.
  23. Regardless of your moral beliefs, you can't deny that there is a very clear biological difference between heterosexual sex and homosexual sex.
