QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) How many times was Nottingham mentioned on this site before today? Now all of a sudden, this A ball catcher is something the Sox really needed. It's beyond laughable. If the Sox actually made this trade today, and a couple of days later, another rental was traded for a better known prospect, the complaining would have no end. I am sorry, I am not losing my mind because the Sox didn't acquire some A ball catcher that wasn't even a top 20 Astros prospect before this season began. Maybe I should be. But why don't we wait to see what was acquired and how they turn out before deciding the White Sox blew it? And how do we even know this package was available for Samardjiza? Who honestly cares how many times he was mentioned? I think the obvious problem here is the lack of trust in Rick Hahn.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) Maybe Hahn and company wanted prospects that are closer to being MLB ready to fit the window they believe they have? The catcher from the Astros is still a few years away. I'm almost certain that is the reason.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) The Astros are without a doubt the most sabermetrical team in baseball. So if you're a saber guy, and knowing how thin catching is league-wide, and they trade him for a rental, wouldn't it make you think they aren't very high on him? You gotta give up players to get players. I dont see why that isnt getting through to you.

Can we package Rick Hahn in with wherever Shark ends up going?

Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick 55s55 seconds ago The #Astros also had Jeff Samardzija on their radar, but couldn't afford to wait for #WhiteSox to decide on a course of action. https://twitter.com/jcrasnick Well there's some good news(major sarcasm)

I was going to say I'm pretty sure Flowers was suspended for PEDs

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 12:35 PM) So Kazmir brought essentially nothing back. Everyone temper your expectations for Samardzija. That's certainly not nothing. Jacob Nottingham is a pretty good prospect.

Oh hey look a young catcher being traded.

Heck I remember everyone was pissed on here when we looked at the return for Peavy. Good times.

There's a game tonight, right? Sox vs Cards

That's the problem. It all boils down to what has Rick Hahn shown? Nice moves on paper. Most of it hasnt worked and look at where the club is at. Kenny has his problems but Rick has shown close to nothing. Honestly I hope Kenny gets more involved come the deadline. Whatever Rick is doing with the rope clearly isnt working. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 09:47 PM) If they keep this up, Hahn won't be around by year 3. He's got year 2 and that's really it. No improvement and your fired. But he couldnt tear it down. Otherwise that would seal his fate. -

Good work by Flowers.... -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:40 PM) Agree to disagree, he is the exact type of player this organization needs and he's available this offseason. No one you're thinking of is. Yeah it's a little silly. How often does a 25 year old with growing offense and elite defense come about in free agency? Did everyone forget that he put up a 6 WAR season last year? That's better than most of our starting lineup combined. But let's sign a bunch of late 20-early 30 year old players. That'll work instead.
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:25 PM) .285/.341/.435 seems like a good pair for elite defense. I'd say he's worth the money. Ofcourse and you see what he can give you. He's about a 3 WAR on average and about 6 on a good year. That might be nice to have.
-
Excuse me but what did everyone expect? Rick to say I'm tearing down and starting over? Before he would be able to do that he would receive a "your fired" from someone above him. Rightfly so. You cant put all the chips down, fail and expect to survive.

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) Not saying this is good or bad but Hahn appears to be more sabermetrics orientated then Kenny. And he seems to be much more patient and willing to trust the "process" or "plan" then Kenny. Just my opinion. Mark If this team he put together is sabermetrics oriented then he needs to go visit Bill James for a lesson. It's a disgrace to sabermetrics.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) I don't know who's responsible for what. But I haven't seen the philosophical change in team building in this org. that I hoped would happen. I guess it's that I hoped that Hahn would have a different philosophy than that which has failed miserably for the last 6 years. And because the philosophy is the same, I assume Williams is still running the show, when that may or may not be true. Hasnt it been already established that Rick Hahn was trained by the guys currently above him in the front office? Why would you expect a radically different philosophy when that first fact is available? It makes zero sense.
-
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) Of course Rick has input but again by his own words Kenny has to approve everything which means by the nature of the structure that if Kenny wants a trade or a signing he has the power to tell Hahn to get it done. and if he has actually done any of that has not been proven. So the talk that Kenny is somehow impeding his progress is complete speculation.
-
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) Kenny has talked a lot to the press the past few months and he's made it very clear by his own words that before Hahn or his people can do anything they have to run it by him. Let's put it this way, Hahn appeared to be patiently rebuilding the major league team and the minor league system since July 2013. Then "suddenly" the Sox spend a lot of money this off season, much of it spent on veterans in their 30's. That's been Kenny's M.O. for years right? "Win now!", "Go for It," "It's Time!" and his football mentality. Pretty clear to me he's still running the show. I'd also love to see Hahn get his chance without interference...let's put it this way (again)...when Kenny was G.M. did he have to answer / clear things with anybody? Answer: No...Roland Hemond was simply an advisor, not his boss. Hahn deserves the same situation. The White Sox front office is simply to unwieldy in my opinion. Mark Ah so it's all Kenny's fault. Rick Hahn had nothing to do with the influx in money? He was just an innocent bystander bowing down to the powers of Kenny Williams. I'm sure Kenny would have said no to another year of building. I mean we didnt just go through a 2 year building starting in 2013...oh wait. This power structure is very similar to what most teams have in baseball. Almost make it sound like Hahn has earned Bill Parcells type of credibility. Might as well make him the manager while you at it.
-
There was that interview with Kenny about a few weeks ago. It sounded to me like he wanted to get more involved. He sidestepped the questions about being disatisfied with the job Rick has done. But to me him getting involved more sounds like maybe Kenny is going "Hey your moves are screwing us right now...now I have to get more involved to clean up the mess".
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 04:56 PM) I don't know who's really running this org. Is Hahn deciding who to acquire or is Williams, with Hahn executing the acquisitions? Well if you believe Kenny he's really not involved. Sounds like they are letting Hahn have the rope.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) Hahn's gotten a free pass for a terrible offseason (in terms of results on the field). He needs to win a few of these big trades going forward, as so far he doesn't have a lot to show at the big league level besides Eaton/Avi. Yep exactly. I dont like that he's gotten a free pass because so far he hasnt shown that he can make this club into contender. His try put us right back into square 1. Why should we have faith that he's going to get it right the next time?

Great time to sell. Sox fans were lead to believe that we would be competing for a playoff spot this season. Now we have to rely on the same general manager with the same book of excuses? I'm sorry but when you come out of a rebuild and screw up your on a short leash. What is he going to do this time? Ask us to be patient with another 2-3 years of crap baseball? Just like with Phil Emery and Marc Trestman last year. You start talking about competing you better get it done. There's no where to hide if you dont.
