  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 01:33 PM) I spent 3 years in Webster Texas and a couple of summers in Conroe. I could never see snow again and be thrilled. If there was any real financial industry in the south, I would have been down there 15 years ago. This past summer wasnt bad...last years was really bad. Dont go outside bad because the sun will eat your skin away. Most of the places I'm looking to move are on the East Coast or back to Chicago.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) Don Cooper special. It pays to be an effective LHP out of the pen. Oh...Hey!
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) Give me a Texas summer over last years Chicago winter any time. Deal
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 12:01 PM) I'd throw in Abreu and Sale for that return. I'll take some Chicago winter for Texas's summer
  5. Isnt Duke the guy at the end of the movie Major League?
  6. Welp that means no Andrew Miller probably. As I posted in the other thread I'm not his biggest fan but it's a step in the right direction.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) Frankly, if the Dodgers are aggressively pursuing Alexei, there could be a zillion different things going on and it might not matter what we heard from those guys anyways. True...but just something like if they wanted to add Danks in would clear things up. I wouldnt take on Ethier or Crawford without shipping a terrible contract back with them. It certainly wouldnt happen for just Alexei.
  8. Man we could use a bucket or rock little piece of info here....So many ideas swirling around right now and plenty of them make sense. But way too much info that isnt known.
  9. Some of the trade proposals on mlbtraderumors....boy that sure want us to take their crap contracts for them
  10. Adam LaRoche and Morales came to mind when reading that
  11. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 01:12 PM) They traded two. Miller has TOR stuff if, he is still young and really just had a bad season which happens to young guys and Tyrell Jenkins who has the stuff to be a #2 or 3. Really great trade for the Braves getting two really high ceiling rotation guys for one season of a mediocre offensive OF and an overpriced RP. Yeah Miller...the young pitcher with conditioning problems and a complete mental breakdown. Yeah the Cardinals are really going to regret getting an accumulated 24 WAR OF who is 25 years old.
  12. What good young pitcher did the Cardinals trade for Heyward?
  13. Nice to see Atlanta getting taken advantage of when their rebuilding starts.
  14. Bad few minutes for Cubs fans. That Heyward deal is nice
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 11:10 AM) Jesse Crain signed a 3 year, $13 million deal. Andrew Miller might sign for 3x that amount and more than 2x the AAV. 3 for 30 last I read
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) [/b] That is kind of an oxymoron when you are talking about relief pitchers. Heck look at Miller. His FIP was double in 2013, what it was in 2014. His WHIP was .80 versus 1.37 in 2013. His 2013 walk rate was double his 2014 rate (5.0 vs 2.5). It goes on and on. That's definitely a valid point.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 11:04 AM) https://twitter.com/pgammo/status/534390714827018240 Russell Martin to Toronto. Sounds like an overpay. Extreme overpay
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 09:38 PM) Admittedly, Duke doesn't have a huge track record and I prefer Thatcher, but Duke has been solid out of the pen. The difference in contracts will be significant. The difference in contracts will be significant for a reason. You have to pay for consistent production.
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 05:12 PM) They also don't need to pay a guy 8-10 million a year for 60 innings. Not that 60 innings are even guaranteed for Miller. He'll throw 60ish if he doesn't get hurt or his control doesn't regress to his career norms. Bullpens are far too spontaneous and random to put that much weight into what happened last year. In fact, Andrew Miller is a great example of exactly that. 2014 he walked 2.5/9 and in the 2013 he walked twice as many as 5.0/9. Obviously we need restructuring in the pen but that doesn't mean paying a ridiculous price for the best lefty in FA. I don't know what a "hefty sum" is for a reliever but if it's what Miller is going to get I'll take that bet. Give me one of Duke/Thather and one or two of Grilli/Hochevar/Chamberlain and I'll be happy. Your worried about Miller regressing but not Duke? Theres obviously going to be a price difference but it's not like Duke is going to be paid the league minimum. Duke back to his usual getting shelled self with Joba Chamberlain...your right back to square 1.
  20. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) They can also afford Max Scherezer, that doesn't make signing him financially prudent. Except they dont really need a Max Scherzer. They need relief pitching in the worst way and it seems they understand they have to put funds that way. How much do you want to bet that when they sign a relief pitcher it's going to be a hefty sum of money for over 2 years?
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) You almost invariably overpay for the top guys in the reliever market, but there are always great values just after that first tier Sure and obviously getting more than one reliever is probably in the works. I think if they dont sign Miller it wont be for a lack of trying. I just dont think they'll try what they did last year again.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) The Sox are not an organization that can afford to pay for Andrew Miller types. I trust Hahn to act accordingly. Except they can afford it
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 11:38 AM) That is my question. Suppose the idea that we have 40 million is right. Suppose we offer $25 million to Moncada, and win. That gives us $50 million in payments and penalties. Are people OK with forgetting about the free agent market to spend that kind of money on Moncada? Remember he can 't sign a major league deal, so I don't believe you can spread that money out like a normal dea. See that's a really good question and the answer for me is no
  24. I'll take Andrew Miller thank you very much
  25. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 11:37 PM) He could decide to sign with the Cubs and sign after next year's signing period starts. I think the chance of that happening is near zero
