  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) He was throwing at him. I don't think there was any doubt of that. After Ortiz glared in at Gregg after the first inside pitch, can you blame any pitcher with an ego throwing at Ortiz in that situation? Clearly the first pitch had no intention except for trying to get an inside strike. I just want to know if Ortiz is using again, because his career just all of a sudden took off again, and that gets kind of fishy considering he is in his mid-late 30's.
  2. QUOTE (kageman129 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 08:04 AM) No one mentioned this on here yet? Angels promote Mike Trout from Double-A http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/...tory?id=6748299 I can't wait to see Trout play this weekend. Excellent skills and only 19 years old. I still have no idea how he dropped to 25. I can't recall, but did he have some sign ability concerns? Unfortunately, I was not surprised that we passed on him in 09. We don't have a very good track record of drafting good baseball players, at least with position players, in the first round in a long time (key examples recently being good athletes who were terrible baseball IQ players like Fields and Anderson; jury still out on Mitchell, but I'm not very confident). The Gordon Beckham one hurts, cause he's the most talented 1st rounder we've had in a while, but he's just shown a complete lack of baseball knowledge at the plate. He thinks he is a home run hitter when he should be going gap to gap, trying to spray line drives. I really wouldn't care if he hit only 5 homers a year, I was really hoping he'd be a double's machine. At least his defense has become superb at 2B.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) So what's going on with Viciedo? He didn't play in either game of the DH today. 1.) He was given an early vacation to head to Arizona for the Future's Game. (My guess) 2.) He is hurt and needed a full day off. (possible) 3.) He finally got the call and will be up with the club. (doubtful, we would have heard some news about it by now) 4.) He got traded. (same as no. 3)
  4. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) If a change was made mid-season, I'm not sure how that impact the current coaching staff. My guess would be that Cora would be gone, maybe you get another new coach, but I think the makeover would come in the off-season. I would hope that Cooper would be safe under any new manager. Agreed. But I would hope that any scenario that involves Oz leaving mid-season, that Cora and Walker would be automatically included.
  5. Quentin--while he can be an MVP quality player at times--isn't getting any cheaper or younger, has injury concerns, and is extremely streaky. With that being said, I think you have to accept any trade offer involving good young talent for Quentin.
  6. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) Doesn't that suck? It's like 1 or 2 wins keeps buying him more time. Ugh. Just fire him and let's !!!! I don't care what anyone says about my fandom, but I wouldn't have minded a sweep at all by the Twins, because that would at least given me hope that there would be a chance that Oz would have been fired on Monday.
  7. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 06:14 PM) I know Cora and Guillen are thought to be tied at the hip. Oh for sure, and thank god for that. Personally, whoever our next manager is, I hope our bench coach isn't a mini version of him. I get the feeling that Baines would prefer to stay in Chicago, regardless of whoever the manager is (not like whoever the 1B coach is a pressing matter). Cox is a solid 3B coach, but it's no big loss if he leaves. Walker, I would have to imagine, would be gone for sure no matter what. There is just no way to justify keeping him if Ozzie is gone. Coop is really the only coach that needs to stay here for life unless a different team wants to give him a shot at being manager.
  8. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 06:15 PM) Did he say why he took that bat out of the hands of Ramirez and Konerko in the eighth? Oz takes the bat out of Konerko's hands before the game even begins by batting Dunn behind him.
  9. That this is even an issue is beyond me. Imagine if this was a big deal back in high school when you would add "is gay" after someone's name on a paper.
  10. My question is how strong the relationship is between the coaching staff and if Coop and Oz are tied at the hip.
  11. It sucks when a white sox victory doesn't really feel much different than a loss.
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 05:53 PM) I'm really starting to have my doubts about the talent. Hope you're right I think there's no doubt this team has talent... Good ball players and winners, maybe not.
