  1. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:20 PM) I wish De Aza was hitting .255 with 6 home runs. Bautista is right at his career average so that shows why BABIP is stupid. Yeah ok dude
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:19 PM) This is pathetic. The Cooper Magic is fading big time. Not sure why everyone's velocity on the team seems down. Chris Sale's is up, at least
  3. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) Yeah, Ole Miss I think? Walk-off homer
  4. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) Are you comparing De Aza to Bautista?? Just because of a stupid stat? No I'm wondering if you think Bautista's low BABIP means he sucks. And also I thought the stat just annoyed you. Now it's stupid? I can get not wanting to pay attention to it, but surely you recognise its usefulness?
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) Didn't some college player recently put one on the board in a similar circumstance? Yeah, Ole Miss I think? Walk-off homer
  6. Fielder should've done a Miggy when he was on the Marlins
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) Which means he sucks!! And Jose Bautista?
  8. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) De Aza is so bad right now. .154 BABIP since you love it so much
  9. QUOTE (scs787 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 01:59 PM) It's just been growing inside of me, and too many mimosas are bringing it out. I guess I just don't care to look into the future. I choose to enjoy Tyler and Dunn hitting .300+ right now even though I know(even without advanced stats) it's not gonna last.....I understand fangraphs, but it seems to take a bit of fun out of the game. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the hell out of it. In fact, I think recognising it's not going to last allows me to enjoy it more whilst it does. Plus, Dunn has legitimately been hitting well, he's walking over 20% of the time and striking out a bit less than normal. He's been lucky too, but not by nearly as much. EDIT: Plus, it works the other way, means I don't freak out about dry spells by the likes of De Aza and Abreu, because I can see a lot of that is them getting unlucky. Even though there is other issues there too.
  10. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) So you have to bring it up all the time.. I hate that stat. All I care about is he is getting hits more then 30% of the time right now. Okay, you care more about the first 3 weeks of the season, I care more about the likelihood of it continuing for the other 5 months and 1 week. Agree to disagree.
  11. That's pretty representative of this season compared to last, better (we didn't drop it), but still not great.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) This.. He brings up all the time and it is getting annoying. I think we know Flowers isn't going to sustain this. I don't need some advanced stat to tell me that every game It's one of the more remarkable things about the season. It's 120 points higher than anyone in the league.
  13. QUOTE (scs787 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) It's annoying in the context of the way it's being presented. It's as if we shouldn't care that our guy just got on base because advanced stats says it's not gonna last forever. Uh, the first mention of it in this thread was followed by a face
  14. QUOTE (scs787 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 01:42 PM) This, I'm finding this BABIP stat highly annoying. Why? It shows that he's not really improved, he's just gotten lucky. He's walked less than last year and struck out more, only difference is almost 6 out of every 10 balls he's put in play have landed for a hit. Without any other changes, his stat-line will begin to plummet. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) Who cares? You are acting like you are mad at him for having success. Sometimes players go on crazy streaks that defy statistics I'm not mad at him, I'm simply pointing out that the people who think he's improved are in for a surprise. It doesn't really defy statistics either, it happens over a small sample size. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 01:44 PM) No but is shows the flaw in sabermetrics attitude towards strikeouts. You don't have to hit the ball on the screws every time to reach base and ultimately score runs. Many of Flowers hits were hit poorly. More poorly than many outs he has made in his career, but you give yourself a chance putting it in play. Uh, yeah, which is why I'm pointing out he's actually struck out more than last year.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) Hit is a hit. For the purposes of the game, yes. For the likelihood of it continuing throughout the year, no.
  16. It's cool how Petricka is now out for days whilst Cleto is nice and rested
  17. "I think the last thing you want in this game is Ramirez batting with the bases loaded", says the Rangers announcer. YEAH I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME
  18. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 08:18 PM) I thought you were talking about Kinsler....last I looked he was playing well Well, that too. The Tigers got the better player and by a mile the better contract.
  19. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) Well the Prince Fielder trade is going to hurt the Rangers very soon...that salary is stupid That's what I mean by brilliant news for the Tigers
  20. God I hate that Fielder trade. Brilliant news for the Tigers and now Fielder f***s us.
