  1. Didn't look at Wendelken for my top 30 because I had it in my head he was having a really bad year. Just looking at him again now, the ERA is high but the K:BB ratio is really quite good. Issue with him starting is the lack of a consistent third pitch and stamina, but he's got time.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:27 AM) This is not true. Why do people keep saying this? It's still the top 10 only. I've said this like 5 times on this site already. A couple years back, the Mets couldn't sign Bourn for the same reason. It's the top 10 picks even though the Astros have 2 of them. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/07/top-...2015-draft.html
  3. QUOTE (newguy @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) I really feel that has been the key to Brad's success so far is that he is simply not giving up free passes. He's only had 10 - 3-ball counts in 62 plate appearances. (16%) He exclusively throws from the stretch, so there's no adjustments needed going from a windup to the stretch. Less moving parts means less chance for a mechanical error & less things to think about since it's just a repeat of the throwing motion just like the previous pitch. He is throwing strikes at 66% rate & first pitch strikes at 68%. When you get ahead of hitters basically 2/3 of the time, advantage goes to the pitcher every time. I keep track of his 1-1 count pitches as well & since that's the 2nd most important pitch. (after the FPS) There's about a .200 point swing in batting avg. if that 1-1 pitch is a strike vs. a ball, he is at 67% throwing a 1-1 strike. He's still got a long way to go, but he is very focused & dedicated & I'm very proud of him for that. This is great info for a stats/farm nerd. Keep posting man!
  4. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) I'm jealous dude. I've liked him since I was a kid watching him in the old style commercials. A friend of mine dated his niece about ten years ago. Cool chick, loved watching football and baseball, could also put some beers down. Had to read that a couple of times, first sentence of the second paragraph leapt out at me
  5. 2-5, 2 singles and 3 strikeouts, April Tyler is back!
  6. Josh Norris @jnorris427 · 53m Good gracious, Jacob May can go get it in center. Effortless range to both sides.
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) I think Jose can put up better HR/RBI numbers than Vlad, whose best HR/RBI season was 42/131 The walks are all that's between him being an All-Star and a regular MVP candidate
  8. I remember when a couple of people thought he needed a little time in the minors to acclimatise. Imagine Jose Abreu in AAA jesus christ
  9. Abreu could have been on a 37-game hit streak by now if he wasn't pinch-run for in the 9th of a tie game costing him an extra 2 PA
  10. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) Jose Abreu is just incredible. But his bat speed is too slow I was just thinking about the guy over at Minor League Ball who decided he was bad based on watching him for 15 minutes in the batting cages
  11. You see that, opposing GMs? Dayan is such a feared hitter he gets intentionally walked! No, don't look at Conor's line against lefties. Pls.
  12. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 08:46 PM) =p Shooting for that 1.000 BABIP!
  13. What if someone told you before spring training that by the trade deadline Conor Gillaspie would be hitting .328 in the majors and Matt Davidson .199 in AAA
  14. Would be pretty funny if Soria did a Joe Nathan
  15. Durham Top of the 6th Pitching Change: Matt Zaleski replaces Chris Beck. Jeremy Moore grounds out, second baseman Micah Johnson to first baseman Dan Black. Wilson Betemit grounds out, second baseman Micah Johnson to first baseman Dan Black. Vince Belnome grounds out, second baseman Micah Johnson to first baseman Dan Black.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) What about his 80 wRC+ It ain't good, but it's severely dented by a) a horrible slash against lefties, which he would be protected against by a platoon and b) a BABIP that is still almost 40 points below his career average.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 07:07 PM) Viciedo sucks too. They both are terrible, terrible fielders, and both hurt their teams on the bases. De Aza just hurts more because he does things like get picked off, doubled off, thrown out going for the extra base, and steal bases at a bad rate. Do you think they're of roughly equivalent value (or lack thereof) on defence and on the bases?
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 06:57 PM) De Aza has a 0.1 WAR right now, I really doubt a BABIP 30 to 40 points below his career average is preventing him from being a 2.5 to 3.0 WAR player. The fact is De Aza was a real nice player when he could play CF. Unfortunately, he's a LF now and his bat is far less valuable there. Going forward he's a platoon OF, which can be useful, but is not the same guy we saw from 2011 to 2013 in his late 20s. There's nothing too wrong with that summary, except a) people are acting like he's never been any good and b) even with that low BABIP he's hitting .269/.340/.406. Adjust that for his career BABIP, combined with his cromulent defence/baserunning that can be a pretty valuable guy as the platoon guy playing the majority of the time. Although you're correct, obviously not as valuable as an everyday CF.
  19. Beck got a strikeout to begin the 5th, then gave up 4 hits in a row, but limited the damage to just one run. 5.0 IP, 5H, 2R, 1ER, 1BB, 5K.
  20. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 06:25 PM) WTF do people have against De Aza man? He's been worth 6.8 bWAR, and 7.3 fWAR in his time with the Sox. For all that production he's cost about a total of 8 million. He was found off the scrap heap and acquired for nothing. I get that he looks awful at times but he's a solid player. Thinking otherwise is letting emotions get in the way of logic. I have a theory that a number of baserunning errors plus a couple of memorable fielding errors coinciding with the first time the White Sox were genuinely awful in about 25 years (maybe 2007 aside) caused a lot of people to associate him with that team, and therefore badness, despite the fact that a) he'd had a couple of really nice years before that and b) he was reasonably productive overall that year too. It didn't help that he followed that up with an extended run of bad luck to open this year.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 05:58 PM) The only thing that is obvious is that they both suck. The difference is you decided that you love De Aza. I decided that because a) he's been a productive player for years, unlike Viciedo and b) he's lovely
  22. Nice start so far for Beck, 3 Ks in 3 IP, one run given up and it was on a single, advance to third on a passed ball (?!) and a balk.
