  1. If your like me, you probably travel to see other ballparks during the summer months. Here is a link to where the White Sox stay when they are in other cities in case any of you were going to follow them on the road. http://www.fromthisseat.com/index.php/mlb/...white-sox/16775 Great way to meet the players.
  2. Adam Dunn was also a former QB. He came to Texas to be a Longhorn and they tried to make him play tight end. That's why he left to pursue baseball.
  3. I think he just hasn't fully adjusted to being the DH on a full time basis. I think if you were to make Konerko the full time DH, and Dunn at 1B, Dunn's stats would rise dramatically. Not that it should happen. He also needs to drop a few pounds and speed up the bat.
  4. Worst farm system? The Yankees. Do they even know they have a farm system because they don't use it. Free agents galore in the Bronx.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) I probably took about 5 years off of my life during that postseason. I was on edge for every single pitch. It would be nice to go back in time with some confidence and enjoy each game 5 years off of your life? You're a true fan. I can't believe it was 10 years ago that the Diamondbacks took the title.
  6. Not opened yet, huh? This bar will not open until opening day. No fan will be able to get a preview of it. If you want to see it, come to the ballpark. That's the mindset the Sox are in right now. Never been to the Cell and Im surprised a restaurant wasn't already standing.
  7. It's pretty simple. You surround the organization with people that are passionate about the franchise. Mark Mcgwire is the hitting coach for the Cardinals. They are playing baseball tonight..... Frank Thomas was almost as good of a hitter as Mcgwire.
  8. The lease is not in jeopardy. He pays very little rent. They are wanting to increase the rent he. The new opening of the Barcardi Club was strategic to this effect. Taxpayer funded, going to allow him to make even more money.
  9. This list does't tell everything. The worst teams are at the top of the list. Islanders and Pirates? Gag me.
  10. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) Reviewing fair and foul balls via instant replay could be tricky. If a ball is called foul and it turns out to be fair where do the baserunners end up? How many bases does the batter get? Although I could see the same thing with home runs. Has a situation ever occurred where a ball was ruled a HR and it was later overturned via instant replay? For a league that is so concerned with protecting the history of the game of baseball, they are taking a look at instant replay awfully hard. It's a double standard and should not happen.
  11. Best way to anticipate and weather your moves and how you will compete is to take a look at what else is going on in the Central. What moves are the Twins and Tigers making in free agency? How is their minor league talent? The Sox were right there most of the season, had Dunn had his normal 40+ homers and 110+ RBIs I think this team would have contended at least until the end. Your DH has to perform.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) His Answers: 1.) I wasn't here last year so I really have no comment on that. I know they are both great baseball players and I'm looking forward to being around them next season as they work hard to help us win games. 2.) Like all our players we'll work extremely hard with them and they will work extremely hard to have good seasons. 3.) I don't use twitter at this time. Dunn needs to see the field of play more often, not just DH. That's his problem. And I ain't talking left field like he was in Cincinnati. He should either split time with Konerko at 1st or play third.
  13. QUOTE (Fantl916 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) Curious if anyone believes that it could be good for the team long term future to trade Paulie. While on the surface I am opposed to it, it's a solid discussion point. Pros: -Paulie is the one player on the roster that could bring the biggest return. He's an all-star caliber 1b and a team needing a power bat could feasibly provide a sweet package of prospects to get him. -He's getting older, and we'd be selling high to say the least -There are options. While not necessarily good ones, you can start with Dunn. Perhaps getting him back to playing the field keeps him more engaged and he hits better. If not, Quentin/Viciedo could fit here as well. Cons: - He's our team leader, captain, and best player. Guys like this often are your franchise centerpieces and not trade material unless you're doing a massive rebuild - He's relatively affordable for his production and is only signed through the next two years which gives us the option to pay him appropriately to finish his career here - His replacements... While I understand that trading your most productive player is bad business, could it make sense in our current situation? THink about it: we have Peavy on our books for this year, Rios for the next four and Dunn for the next three. Peavy aside, that's more than 25$ tied to two underacheiving players heading into Paulie's walk year and beyond. If we hold Paulie and play it out then our competiveness is tied to Rios and Dunn's production, while having no financial means to supplement what's already in place. We would be dependent on trades of Danks, CQ, etc. to provide reinforcements. If indeed a "youth movement" is taking place, this perhaps we should explore trading our aging vets. Everyone's talking about trading CQ but the return is likely mediocre, one that is sure to bring out mass anger on this message board. Perhaps trading Paulie allows us to keep Danks and Quentin and move forward with the additional youth gained from a PK trade? I'm not condoning this, just guaging the temperature of the Sox folk out there on how we could possibly position ourselves for success 2-4 years from now with our contract situations. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If Paul brings all of these great things to this team, which he does, why risk losing that by trying to solve a problem area that may or may not be resolved?
  14. I drink during baseball games all of the time. What's the big deal?
  15. I live in Cincinnati and have only seen one ballpark, Great American. Off all Labor Day weekend and this is a great matchup this weekend. Thought of making the trip up to catch the Sox. Anyone been to Detroit's ballpark? Never been to Detroit, period and curious to see if it as ghetto as what TV makes it out to be. The Sox could really pick up some ground if they were able to get a sweep which I am sure you are all very pessimistic about.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) I still refuse to believe Dunn forgot how to hit after 10 years at the age of 31. I think he'll drop 20lbs and put up 40/100 next year I said the same thing in another topic. Losing weight will help his confidence. He needs to be swinging for the fences every single appearance at the plate, its what he's paid to do.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) Sad and unexplainable complete failure this year. Interesting to see how things develop over the off season and how this team looks and performs in 2012 Maybe Dunn needs to spend a little more time in the gym in the offseason? Have you seen the guy through the years? Bad weight added after bad weight. Sure, you should always expect his batting average to be .250, among the league leaders in strikeouts, but 40+ home runs every season. The man is paid to hit home runs and swing for the fences every single time. Weight loss would help his confidence I would imagine and another year as a DH will do him good, he has been an NL guy his whole career.
  18. Cool thing is, all of the dream seasons you mentioned were all recent. That 2007 Rockies team were fun to watch. A sweep of the Tigers this weekend would get things going in the right direction. A very important series coming up.
  19. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 07:23 AM) If Ozzie won't pinch hit for Dunn against a lefty in late innings with runners in scoring position because (according to him) he has full confidence in Dunn and because (according to Rongey) Dunn is under contract for several more years, what in God's name would happen if we effectively replaced him with another one-dimensional Lefty power DH? Cue the Ghostbusters' "dogs and cats living together" soundbite. Should we do it? Of course. Thome "should" have been DHing here the last two years. Will we? No way in hell. I say put Dunn and Thome at the 3 and 4 holes in the batting lineup and tell them to start swinging recklessly. Couldn't hurt either. Might wake Dunn up.
  20. Are the Cubs going to start acting like a franchise now that Mckendry is gone? They will likely free up some money by giving zambrano the axe. Got a weird feeling that Pujols could end up a Cub next season too.
  21. Giving back to the game...sounds like a great guy. Never met him, but I have met Jose's brother Javier multiple times when he was in Cincinnati. always took time to stop and chat.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) Kansas City and Pittsburgh would support their teams well if they actually were .500 or above and providing some hope for the future. San Diego at least has that beautiful stadium and lots of money in SoCal. Houston's future looks very bleak but their attendance is still well ahead of ours....they have traditionally supported their teams and had pretty big payrolls under McLane. We'll see with Crane. Baltimore could easily have made this list. Toronto too, despite J4L's pleas. With the exception of the Dolphins, almost all professional teams in Florida have to watch every penny. Very well written post, I really think the Marlins new ballpark will help them get things turned around, even though 2 world series titles in 17 years is impressive by all means. When was the last time the Cubs won a World Series?
  23. Disagree with Loria towards the bottom. Two World Series titles in 17 years, tiny payroll, crappy stadium...you do the math.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) It shocked me that Jarred went that low and short. Maybe his bro going year to year and team to team has some effect on him? 30 teams in the league. Playing the free agency market with speculation on two players is just silly. Surprised the Phillies didn't snag Weaver for the #5 spot... Just kidding.
