I've gotten back into listening to some of my late 90's stuff once again, such as Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve. Great song that.

How bad will this be compared to the hurricanes Florida had last year in terms of damage and potential cost?

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) I really don't know who to believe, and I should stop watching and listening to it because it's freaking me out... But I've heard several times from last night and this morning that this storm has the potential to wipe NO off the map. One of my Dad's friends went there last weekend on a Business Trip. Needless to say, very lucky it wasn't this weekend.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) Fields is a butcher in the field still. Hence why he needs at least another good season at least in the minors working on it.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) WoW. And they filled up the Dome for shelter for the poor and sick right. Yeah I just watched a news report on that. Scary stuff for those inside.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) I heard on WGN that waves will reach 30 ft. and that the New Orleans sewer sytem and flood control will be destroyed with the city under 10-20 feet of sewage and toxic stuff from landfills and such. 90 % of the homes will be destroyed with the expected casualties at 1 million. Wow, and we all probably thought Florida had it bad last year (which they absolutely did mind you). Hopefully it's nothing that bad though.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) You guys are crazy if you think that Benson is just going to push Thomas Jones to the backburner. I think Jones is going to be getting 80 percent of the snaps for the first half of the year, and Benson will be eased into getting 40 percent of the snaps towards the end of the year. Benson clearly hurt his value to the team by missing so much time, and unless he is the second coming of Tomlinson(doubtful), I see no reason to expect so much from him so soon. To all of you fantasy footballers who drafted Jones as a serviceable RB, I wouldnt be hasty to dump him right now. I actually think he molded himself very well to the offense. Not to mention that he is fast and strong, and as quick as a waterbug. It will be nice to spell Jones with a powerback like Benson, but I think it will be a little while. Well Thomas Jones is Thomas Jones, he's not in the top half of starting RB's in the league, hence why they drafted Benson. And yeah he could be good enough to be the 2nd coming of Tomlinson, no-one's seen him in a NFL game yet so it's a bit early to be maing judgements, but Tomlinson was the #5 pick, Benson #4. With Ron Turner going with a power running game, Benson will probably be the starter by mid - season I'd think. Jones is quite injury prone, so that can't be ruled out either.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) GO BULLS!!!! That Bull in the picture's got more heart than Eddy Curry. At least he doesn't hit below the belt.

A RUNNING of the bulls in a Spanish town outside the capital has left 63 people injured, two of them seriously. The pair were taken from the town of San Sebastian de los Reyes to hospitals in Madrid to undergo urgent surgery. The others were treated for cuts and bruises. During the crowded run, people were momentarily trapped in a pile-up at the entrance to the bullring, where the run ends. Some of the bulls trampled the mound of people to get into the ring, causing the large number of injuries. The town holds a weeklong festival each summer in which daredevils run through the streets with bulls weighing up to 600kg. The earliest records of bull runs in San Sebastian de los Reyes go back to 1523.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) Not at all the case. Brian Anderson has done well in his stint up here IMO, and Jon Adkins has proven himself unworthy of a ML roster spot IMO, therefore Brian Anderson is a better player to keep on the roster IMO. Take out the Hernandez game. Anderson would be 2 for 17 with 0BB's and 7K's. He'd have an OBP of around .130 - .140, and an OPS below .300.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) Well it seemed like to the Dam8610 that because of Brian one successful game, he deserved a place on the playoff roster. Well about 5 games is a pretty small sample size to real take note of the stats, but I think if most were asked around here would you'd prefer Timo or Brian on the post - season roster, they'd say Brian.

QUOTE(JoshPR @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) And IF Fields is ever Ready. I would prefer to go after Furcal than Mueller That's gonna be about a $5 to $7 mill diff right there. Fields even though his 2nd half of the season has been good, is likely to repeat in B-Ham before moving up to Charlotte. I doubt we'll see him until 2007 at the earliest, maybe even 2008.

I just found out how fit I am, not very at all. I had 5 minutes to run about 3/4 mile from my car park to hand in my assignment, let's just say I was gasping for air by the end of it. But I can imagine trying to do it in Arizona in 100+ weather, I'd collapse after about 15 to 20 secs, I'd think.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Im still on the A-Train bandwagon but oh well thats a lost cause . Anyways I dont think he will get many carries the first couple of weeks but my week 4-5 he should be splitting about 50/50 with Thomas Jones and I think that will improve our running game greatly since both will be fresh. It's funny, he could be anywhere from backup to 4th string RB on the Cowboys with Tyson Thompson and Barber the 3rd there as well. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) How much do you want to bet that Felix Hernandez won't be in the playoffs? That makes Anderson useless, just like Adkins. Well considering the other pitchers Anderson has faced, that's a pretty harsh statement, even though if he was playing in October he would be facing those type of pitchers.

QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) This year: Home: .306 Away: .292 I'd take a .292 average in a heartbeat over what Crede's given us this year. His rbi totals are better at home for whatever reason. I'll admit that last year his away numbers were a LOT worse, but even the year before he was hitting .309 away with twice as many homers. Most hitters numbers would probably go up playing for the Sox anyway (HR's anyway). On an unrelated note, I just read (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=insidedishmannycouldbego&prov=tsn&type=lgns) that Rosenthal thinks the Sox would be one of the teams looking at Furcal, but I think he's just looking at needs for teams and filling in the blanks. His recent hot streak has pretty much inflated those numbers. Beforehand, IIRC he had OPS's away from Fenway around or below the .700 mark, which is not too good for an everyday 3rd baseman. I don't mind him at all for a year or 2, until Fields is ready unless a better solution can be found. My guess is he'll want around a 3 year deal though, and with the lack of quality 3rd baseman on the market this off-season, he could get it.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) Winn's hitting .280 with the Giants. That's not very bad, and a .280 hitter on this team would look amazing (and no, I don't want Winn). My point is that we need someone. This offense is wretched. It is pitiful. I don't care what KW has to give up from our overrated prospects. I don't care what money he has to take on. There has to be someone out there that he can get that's better than some of the garbage we already have. Can you say Aaron Rowand version 2.0? This month he has an OBP of .300 with a 20/3 K/BB ratio. He's not good enough to be an everyday player for us when we've already got Podsednik, Rowand, Dye and Everett in those 4 spots. And what San Fran give up for him. Jesse Foppert, who has ace like stuff if he's 100% recovered from TJ surgery and Yorvit Torrealba, who has been a real good addition for Seattle as their catcher. The main weakness is the SS/3B combo. That'll get upgraded in the off-season I'm sure, more likely 3B, unless Uribe can move over there.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) That's not my job. But can you sit there and tell me that KW can't pry away a player from another team even if he has to overpay? So you think Florida would be happy with Ron Villone right now, especially what they gave up for him? How bout Randy Winn and the Giants?
-
QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) Unless KW makes a trade for a 3B, Mueller should definitely be signed IMO. There's really nothing the Sox would be interested in as far as ss go this offseason, so we're stuck with Uribe unless KW makes a trade there. This free agent crop is so thin that we pretty much have to sign PK. Otherwise, we're not going to have enough power unless KW goes wild trading (which I wouldn't be against necessarily). The Sox could stand to develop a couple youngsters. Hopefully BMac is part of the starting rotation next year, and KW can trade off a starter or reliever to help fill the other holes. The problem with Mueller is he hasn't been that good away from Fenway over the past 2 seasons.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) Bears or not, they found a 1st round talent in the 4th round of the draft. Can you say steal of the draft? No my money's still on Chris Canty.
