QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 07:26 AM) As long as Orton is servicable than the Bears will win 8-10 games. This team isn't built around the QB. It's built around the run and their defense. I'll remember this statement. Sorry but I think anything more than 6-7 wins is probably out of the question. You at least need some resemblance of offense to be successful to keep that defense off the field and fresh. Orton's probably going to struggle. How many rookie QB's besides Ben Roest... have come in and succeeded straight away? David Carr didn't. Joey Harrington didn't. It doesn't help that the Bears OL isn't in the top half of the league in protection as well. Getting Benson signed is a start though. They need to pound the ball with him as much as possible, get those 3rd and short situations, to make it possible for Orton to get those completions.

Ok Bears fans, you can jump back on his bandwagon now.

Garcia, day game, Safeco, me likely, me likey.

QUOTE(JoshPR @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) Was about to Ask the same thing It's been floated around by a few here, they seem to be the best fit for him, desperate for a leadoff hitter, and I don't know if Nomar's going to be back. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him, but would he settle to be a #2 or #9 hitter?

QUOTE(That funky motion @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) The problem is we just signed Uribe toa 3 year deal. So first you have to find someone to take that contract. Uribe os going nowhere and will be our ss next year. Uribe's been suggested to take over the super utility role if you will, splitting time at SS and 3B for Crede by some.
-
Those who want to upgrade from Uribe, well this is Alex Gonzalez's asking price; Would you pay that for Gonzalez especially with Rafael Furcal probably going to sign with the Cubs in the off-season?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) Reed isnt that great and wasnt what he was supposed to be but he is still a good 3rd WR and Evans and Moulds are both pretty good especially if Moulds can stay healthy. And yes Losman is having his 1st season as a starter he still is better than what we have. Buffalo's 3rd WR Roscoe Parrish went down injured. You'd think they'd keep Reed if he was a 3rd WR; I wasn't disputing the fact that Losman was better than what the Bears have. He's still going to struggle for parts of the year, maybe even long one's at that. You were trying to argue that the the Bears D was really good because they shut out Buffalo's offense for more than 2 quarters. I think that could happen a lot to them this year if they don't get the running game going.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) 7 IP 3 H 1 ER 9 SO 0 BB (W) Very, very nice outing for Gio. He's been a lot better in Winston - Salem this month. He'll prob repeat there to start next season though perhaps, or he'll be in B-Ham.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Timo did not do all that well in those games. A .270 average is the type of average you might want to get out of a #3 or 4 hitter that hits 35-40 HR per year, not a leadoff man that is expected to get on base to allow the power hitters to drive him in. Personally, I'd prefer to see Pablo Ozuna leading off and playing SS (Uribe moves to 3B), with Brian Anderson and Aaron Rowand playing LF and CF. IIRC Ozuna has real good splits against lefties. Since Timo is a LH, it was always going to be more likely that he gets the majority of the starts against RHP, while Pablo would get em against the LHP.

QUOTE(Kogs35 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) http://www.firejerryangelo.com/ And I thought Jerry Jones was bad.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) Idonno a lot of it depends on the offense. If they can not turn the ball over and put the opposing team in scoring distance our defense has the ability to dominate. While being on the field twice as long as our Offense in the 1st half the Bills could not make a scoring drive until the 3rd quarter and that was only a fg. And thats saying something because the Bills have a pretty decent O... good WR group of Moulds, Evans, and Reed... good RB in McGahee, decent QB in Losman. Losman's in what his 1st season, he's still learning the job. Reed's about to get cut. Buffalo ain't that great on O besides "Whatcha talkin bout Willis".
-
Is Nomar going to be a realisitic option in free agency if we're going to have to upgrade at SS? Will be interesting to see what type of contract he gets.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) Is it bad if I was hoping Hutch would suck? I just hate the guy and he sucks and I did not want him to start. If he started the opening game I will be pissed. Well to sum it up in my view, he's pretty much a "Poor Man's Drew Bledsoe", which is quite sad for both players really. Really for him, the worst thing that happened was Bill Parcells becoming the coach. Late 2002-03, he was starting under Dave Campo and actually had some good games with 300+ passing yardage IIRC. Then Parcells came in, and he lost the TC comp with Quincy Carter. That killed him.
-
Unless the Bears OL turns into the St. Louis Rams version of the early 2000's, Kyle Orton would probably get killed in his 1st season ALA David Carr if they chucked him into the fire. I don't think they'll take that chance, at least not straight away.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:10 AM) Well, I've seen this one and the one you started on the admin board. Is there a 3rd? Yeah; http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=39023

QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:08 AM) And who suggested this??... Well someone had to help this team.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:06 AM) I was gonna say, I hope you posted in this thread.. 3-0 with Crede back. Once that ends it'll be Brian's. Did you see the other Joe Crede banner thread?

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 07:59 AM) Strangely the only seafood I love is calamari You can get real good calamari or real bad ones. Personally, I think it's gotta to be nice and stringy, and not really hard to chew, and crumbed real nice.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) !!!*** Do you mean you've never had Homarus (Maine) lobster, or and lobster in general? Down in the Disneyland of seafood?!? In NSW I know I had at least two different kinds of slipper lobsters and a blue-clawed Pacific lobster as well as some big-ass yabbi shrimp that could have passed for lobster. Anyways, don't pay Kid no atttention. A perfectly cooked (not overdone and rubbery) Maine lobstah' is heavenly. It is kind of buttery tasting because of the sweeteness and high fat content of the meat, but a side of drawn butter and a lemon wedge is standard. I know it's really quite crazy, but I suppose we just have fish (especially salmon my personal favorite), prawns (which are absolutely beautiful) etc. a lot more, but I definitely want to go try it next time we venture out to a seafood restaraunt.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 01:09 AM) I haven't been following the Bears... But what on earth is Benson's problem... Only 17 million over 5 years... never having done jack s*** on an NFL field before.... POOR FREAKEN' BABY!!!! I'm not even a Bears fan and s*** like this pisses me off... He wants what the #4 pick last year got.

QUOTE(DePloderer @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) Jeeze, how to explain the rules of Cricket....I tried that once with my American brother in law and gave up. Try here Cricket rules and stuff they'll do it better than me. You need to understand that the major teams are not "town/city" based like most sports, but "county"(similar to your states) based. So my local team is Yorkshire. Sussex are winning the county championship at the moment. I don't realy follow county cricket but I do like to watch international test matches the game lasts 4 days by the way) and as I'm sure your all aware England are currently SPANKING Austrailia! Sorry DBAH0. BTW my inlaws were shocked when I gave them a cricket ball. They hadn't realised how much bigger and harder it was than a baseball; when you realize that the record speed for a bowled ball is just over 100mph it's not something you would want to get infront of. Unlike baseball, hitting a batter is not something to be avoided, it is part of the game! And as for playing in the position of "silly mid off" well you have no chance of getting me there. Yes I'm watching it right now and we're not doing too good at all against the Pommies. Anyways, it's prob worse for me that I watch as many games as I can, when I can, as an Aussie, as I don't know if there'd be anyone else in my state, let alone my country like that.

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 12:28 AM) Mike Williams > Bradley Justin Gage couldn't catch the one good throw Hutch made yesterday. And it's gonna be hard for Williams to make any type of impact with the QB situation the way it is now. At least IF Benson signs, you can pound the ball with him and Jones around 40 times a game.
-
Of course remember if the Bears take Williams (and they have sort of a clone of him in Justin Gage), they wouldn't of selected Bradley in the 2nd round.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 11:59 PM) No way. I couldn't even watch the people walking out there. They should install Bungee Jumping as well then.

Well considering about 8 to 12 people die there a year from utter stupidity, at least it's safe. Looks really nice, but about 6 months too late for me. One of the most beautiful places in the world I've ever seen though without a doubt.
