    Grand Theft Auto 4

Looks like the game is gonna be one of those 2 names, Amazon UK has started to accept preorders for the currently unannounced Grand Theft Auto IV: Sin City. Amazon UK has recently started to accept preorders for the unannounced Grand Theft Auto IV: Sin City. The PlayStation 2 game is being advertised for 29.99 pounds ($54) with a European release date of November 5. No information on the game is available on the site, although an ELSPA rating of 15 as opposed to the usual 18 is mentioned. Rockstar Games was unavailable for comment at the time of writing. Software publisher submits the now-likely title of next Grand Theft Auto game to the U.S. Trademark Office. Grand Theft Auto fans looking to shoot up Las Vegas are likely in for a disappointment. Two weeks before Amazon UK began taking pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto: Sin City--the Las Vegas-set title inspired by a 2003 April Fool's Day post on Shacknews.com--Take-Two quietly registered a different title. On December 17, 2003, Take-Two registered three titles--GTA: San Andreas, GTA 5, and GTA 6--with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Since Vice City was the fourth game in the Grand Theft Auto series* it would seem that the next installment in the series will be either called GTA 5 or GTA: San Andreas. (Vice City is technically the fifth game in the series, which includes the largely overlooked expansion to the original GTA, Grand Theft Auto: London, 1969.) While Take-Two referred to the next GTA as "Grand Theft Auto 5" in a conference call earlier this year, San Andreas is the more likely title. San Andreas, a hybrid of Los Angeles and San Francisco, is the only city featured in the original Grand Theft Auto yet to make an appearance in the next-generation game (Liberty City was in GTAIII and Vice City showed up in an eponymous game). The San Andreas theory is further backed up by the fact that Take-Two has not registered "GTA: Sin City" or "Grand Theft Auto: Sin City" with the Trademark Office. Interestingly, Take-Two registered only titles with the "GTA" acronym, and did not register "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas", "Grand Theft Auto 5," or "Grand Theft Auto 6." This indicates they may be following in the footsteps of KFC (nee Kentucky Fried Chicken) in using acronyms to make a potentially unpalatable product more easily consumable by the mainstream. Rockstar representatives had not responded to GameSpot inquiries as of press time.

  6. I doubt the O's will trade for Maggs if they do indeed sign Pudge and Ponson. But if we are able to do a trade with them then Gibbons would definitely hav to be included along with one of their main infield or outfield prospects like a Luis Matos, Larry Bigbie or a Brian Roberts. Howeva, I'd like to go afta some of their young pitchin and see if we can steal a Adam Loewen, or Kurt Ainsworth from em. I would also like to go afta Urbina, KW said he would get 1 more veteran in da pen, howeva, even though he mite sign for less cos of his relationship with Ozzie, I don't think he'll fit into our payroll and I think the Twinkies will sign him and make him their closer instead. Rogers definitely won't sign here, u can be sure of that.

Here are da tidbits that I was most interested in, Dynasty Mode: Brand-new player happiness and team chemistry model: Being a top manager is not just about getting the stars, it's about keeping them happy and functioning as a unit. Farm team system: Class AA and AAA rosters allow you to call up talent and nurture your prospects. Mound visits: Need to buy your closer some time to get limbered up? Stroll out to the mound and let him get another pitch or two in. Your pitcher will also respond by getting a stamina boost or penalty depending on whether or not he appreciates the visit. An all-new on-the-fly bullpen/dugout management menu: Without even having to go into the pause menu you can warm up pitchers, call mound visits, sub in relievers, sit down guys in the bullpen, call pinch runs and hits, or even sneak a peek at the opponent's bullpen to see how close they are to being ready. Some In-Game Goodies: All-new batting system: We are bringing hitting up to the same level of depth and control that there was over pitching in MVP 2003. You have full control over your swing with about 15 to 20 different factors all coming together in one moment that determines quality of contact. Ability to control your own dives: Yes, last year's most requested feature was one of our top priorities. Not being satisfied with simply adding a button, we've used the right stick for full control over whether your player dives, slides, jumps, or climbs the wall. We call it our Big Play Control. Expanding on Big Play Control, we've given you the ability to control your slides. You can choose whether to execute a pop-up slide, hook slide, try to break up a double play by going in cleats-first, or even run over the catcher and knock the ball loose.

  10. NEW Zealand is considering the chemical castration of paedophiles, Justice Minister Phil Goff was reported saying Sunday, although government papers show officials are divided on the idea and psychiatrists warned it may not be the ultimate cure. "At this stage more research needs to be done, but my position is that we must protect the rights of the most vulnerable members of society, our children," Goff told the Sunday Star-Times. Goff said he has asked justice officials to study a scheme begun in Oregon four years ago. The treatment would see child sex offenders forced to take libido-reducing drugs when freed from prison. Goff said more information was required on the scheme, particularly on the suitability of the drugs and confirmation it reduced reoffending. "We're not going to close the door on this idea because it relates to the vital element of public safety." Cabinet papers obtained by the newspaper show government departments are divided over the proposal amid fears it may breach the Bill of Rights and medical ethics. Officials warned that mandatory drug use is no guarantee paedophiles will not reoffend, and there remained the possibility of sex offenders suing the government for the drug's side effects. Doctors also said the drugs could not be forced on paedophiles. Forensic psychiatrist Sandy Simpson said ethical codes prohibited giving drugs to a patient that were not clearly beneficial. "You'd be giving these drugs for the benefit of other people, not directly for the benefit of the offenders themselves," he said.
  11. Losers in the Vlad stakes, looks like they be goin back to Pudge. From ESPN, With Vladimir Guerrero waiting for a more attractive offer, the Baltimore Orioles are again considering the possibility of signing catcher Ivan Rodriguez. In a winter in which the Orioles are among very few teams willing to spend big dollars, Baltimore already has signed catcher Javy Lopez, as well as shortstop Miguel Tejada. But their contract talks with Guerrero have stalled, and the Orioles are again inquiring about Rodriguez. If the Orioles were to sign Rodriguez -- who rejected a three-year, $28 million offer from Baltimore last month -- he and Lopez would share the catching responsibilities, with both also sharing time at designated hitter. This would reduce the workload on both, and within the Orioles' organization, there is a line of thought that the extra rest could make Rodriguez and Lopez more effective offensively, and give the team extraordinary depth in the event of an injury to either. The Orioles have increased their offer to Guerrero incrementally over their initial five-year, $65 million proposal, a deal that would dwarf any other contract concluded this off-season. But Guerrero is seeking a seven-year, $105 million contract, and the Orioles have gotten some indications that Guerrero might be reluctant to play in Baltimore. Now Guerrero is negotiating with the Mets on a three-year contract; if he were to sign with any team other than the Orioles, Guerrero would have to walk away from perhaps $40 million. With slugging outfielders Maggilo Ordonez and Carlos Beltran scheduled to become free agents next fall, the Orioles could upgrade their lineup now by signing Rodriguez to a smaller deal than they've offered Guerrero, and then pursue an outfielder after the 2004 season.
  12. Accordin to the LA Times, looks like the Angels got him. If that's the case man what a offseason for them. From ESPN, The Vladimir Guerrero sweepstakes appears to have concluded with yet another twist that will send the free agent outfielder west. Sources told the Los Angeles Times that the Anaheim Angels agreed to terms with Guerrero late Saturday night and will sign the former Expo star contingent on his passing a physical exam this week. The deal is for five years and $70 million, accoring to the paper. "As a matter of policy, we don't comment on speculation," Angels vice president of communications Tim Mead told The Associated Press. Earlier Saturday, the World Series champion Florida Marlins were thought to be the front-runner. They reportedly had made a one-year offer for at least $10 million, and Guerrero's first choice was believed to be Florida, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. "I've heard that he would like to go to Florida if the money was appropriate," an unnamed general manager told the Star-Ledger. "My personal opinion is that if Florida came up with a $13 million or $14 million deal, he'd go there." The Mets and the Orioles had been believed to be the only teams seriously pursuing Guerrero. But the Mets announced Saturday night that they were no longer in the running after Guerrero rejected their three-year offer. According to the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles reportedly offered a five-year, $67.5 million deal after originally making a five-year, $65 million proposal. But a team official told the Sun on Saturday that if Guerrero has made a decision, "we're not the team." The Orioles had been considered the early favorites because they are offering more guaranteed money than the Mets, who reportedly offered a $30 million deal over three years with plenty of incentives. But according to the Star-Ledger report, talks between Guerrero and the Orioles had fallen apart. Guerrero missed close to two months last season because of a herniated disk but was terrific after returning, finishing the season with a .330 average, 25 home runs and 79 RBI for the Expos.
