I don't think it's a coincidence that Houston and the Sox have massively under performed their pythag record. Fortunately one of the few teams who the Sox won't be at a significant disadvantage in the dugout is who they'll face in rd1.

I think it's fine if you're willing to treat it as a bullpen game. Rodon for two, Kopech for two, and then figure it out from there. But would Tony be willing to manage that way? There are only 3 guys in this rotation capable of going 5 in a playoff game right now, anyways.

Kopech for ~4 innings and Rodon for ~2 in a playoff game would look pretty good to me. But the Hall of Famer didn't want Kopech getting stretched out, so this is what we get

He should have been benched on Thursday vs the Angels for not covering 2b on the double play. There is no reason for him to be an every day guy at this point, even with all the injuries.

If Rodon can only hold his velo for ~2 innings, the Sox are going to regret not building Kopech at all in the second half

Lots of 89s and 90s from Rodon in that inning is scary stuff.

They significantly overvalued the team options with Kimbrel and Hernandez both. I think that's a huge part of the reason why they made both deals.
