White sox may be reconsidering their stance of being non sellers

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) KW is Hahn's boss. Hahn has wanted to rebuild and was overridden by KW and JR. I don't love Hahn, but I would be for canning Williams and letting Hahn facilitate the rebuild. -

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) That's a narrative man, if Hahn let KW dictate his moves as a GM he's an even worse GM than I thought. This is a different discussion, but you do realize KW is higher on the totem pole than Rick, right? -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:13 AM) sure it does. Do you think the sox would be in contention if Abreu was hitting his norms and Petricka and Putnam were pitching to their norms? Also, I didn't say to keep Sale and Quintana, I said you need to keep one. They need the guy at the top. I'm all for trading one, preferably quintana. No. The whole team has an OBP problem. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) This is actually a great example. Anyone expect the Sox to lay down $150 million for a player to take them to the next level after a rebuild? Yeah, me neither. The Sox have not been in a situation where they're spending bargain basement money on their players. I don't know what they would do if they were young, good and a starter away from contention. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) The cubs for all of their young players still depend on two veterans for success, Arrieta and Lester. One was a pure luck minor deal, the other a significant FA signing of well over 100 million dollars. why depend on luck or over spending when the Sox currently have that piece? The Cubs are the opposite of us. They have two pitchers they bought and a team loaded with young talent at key positions. We have a garbage team we bought and home grown pitchers. The problem is our team sucks and we would be better off being bad and drafting better talent. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) The fact that you couldn't look at it logically doesn't matter either. There is no logic that states this current method is working and there's really no good way to keep Sale and Q and magically turn our team into contenders. Time to wake up. Attendance and interest is at an all-time low. There's no excuse not to start over. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) So you want these people to trade their established players for people they think will be good one day? Yes, because that's what MLB teams do now. You're either contending or you're rebuilding. Not sure why this is so hard for you. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Yep, either give Fulmer 10 starts in the majors until he hits his season innings limit or send him to AAA. I think the FO is trying to replicate the Sale strategy. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) i think they were. The players have all just had career norm or down years all together. The only player playing above their norm is Melky. Any team that wins the world series needs to have a few players having career years and very few below thier career averages. I liked the plan with adding frazier and Lawrie among others. With their pitching it should have been a really good team. Unfortunately, Abreu tanked, they lost two bullpen pieces to injury and no one on the offense is having that career year. A good plan that didn't work. I have no problem with selling but they need to keep that one piece that is the most difficult to find....The Ace. The fact that you were fooled didn't make this team a contender. Sorry. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) And trade the prospects you got for Sale for an ace that makes double his salary? Prospects bust. You can't give all your talent away or you wind up really sorry. Like the Astros and the Cubs. They seem awfully sorry. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) People aren't going to be able to deal with a full rebuild. Just look at the facts. 2014 was a rebuilding season, how many people complained about Konerko taking the 25th spot and ruining "roster construction"? They weren't going to win, I thought people didn't care. And many who have said this season is over are complaining Jacob Turner is starting tonight. That's what you get in a rebuild. Guys like Jacob Turner starting, for years. Look at the attendance. People aren't dealing with this garbage, either. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) Spending 200 million for 5 years for an ace is not the way to have success. More often than not it doesn't work out. I would rather keep the one they have. If the rest of the team is cheap, you can totally overspend on an ace. You have to pick your spots, obviously, but there's still no cap. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) That's only 3 years away. The sox will be looking at far longer than that with no top of the rotation starters. Unless you think rodon and Fulmer are 1 and 2 starters. I'm not convinced of that. I mean, yes and no. We don't really know what either are at this point, but it's a better situation than what happened on the north side. If the Sox draft solid fielding talent, they can trade or sign the pitching they need. It's the fielding talent we really need to grow. And if it takes anymore than three seasons, our Ace pitchers are gone anyway. -

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 07:02 AM) Exactly like Lester, Zobrist, Montero, Lackey, Ross, etc. Without those guys, the Cubs are still favorites in the NL Central. I don't know why we as a fanbase struggle with that. Heck, don't look at the Cubs. Look at the Astros. They have amazing young talent and are incredibly exciting. There are some lean years, obviously, but if I could go back to 2008 and replace every season since then with struggle in order to rebuild this organization the right way, I would do it. It's not the Cubs, it's the way of baseball now. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 12:15 AM) 11th and falling right now. Lose em all f***ers. I'm usually against this attitude, but beat the Cubs

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 12:10 AM) On the other side of the coin, say we don't trade Q or Sale but do send the likes of Duke, Robertson, Fraizer, Lawrie, and Melky packing. Then, yes - until 2019 you've got a tits starting rotation of: Sale, Q, Rodon, Shields, Fulmer You've got the following fixtures in place with a barren bullpen as well: Shortstop, Firstbase, Rightfield. That means you still have to fill 6 holes. DH, C, 2B, 3B, CF, LF Say you concede Collins as a DH. Fine, you're still down to filling 5 holes. Bottom line - you can't keep that rotation intact and rebuild. Sad but true. Nailed it. It's a problem of holes and timing. If you don't trade Sale, Q, their contracts will end before the parts you bring in from the rest of the fire sale reach the majors. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 11:59 PM) Think we are in lose for draft spot time now. Just don't get swept by the Cubs Get that top ten pick

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 12:03 AM) To be completely honest, if we traded Sale and Quintana, there's almost no return that wouldn't still have me much less interested in following the team for the foreseeable future. It would absolutely be a punt to a few years from now hoping that we at least walk away with a couple of guys as good as the ones we lost. That's how you rebuild. It's hard but necessary. You don't have to watch. -
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 09:39 PM) Look at the stats. They're ugly. Very ugly. Even so, he's not worse than JB
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) Hammy for Lawrie. Hugwatch never ends with a trade.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 08:38 PM) Nice one. Barstool dude thinks if he was traded we would know by now. I'm surprised we don't know what his injury is yet. The Sox haven't said anything after all the smoke all afternoon.

Write Sox @WriteSox SOURCE: Brett Lawrie fell into a vortex, and is now in an unknown dimension battling vampire wolves.
-
For once I'm disappointed Hawk isn't calling the game. He would go down there and check on Lawrie.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 08:33 PM) What does that mean? It's SBNation. Who the hell knows? You and I can write for them.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 08:26 PM) I traded him to Miami in MLB the show. For Whiteside?!
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 08:24 PM) Part of a package that has Profar included in the return, maybe? Nah... God that would be exciting. Anderson and Profar. No, probably not.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 08:19 PM) Just by playing MLB the show I didn't see any that needed one when I was trading him. Can play third though. I'm not convinced it's a trade, but maybe he's part of a package.
