QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 08:11 AM) I say the Sox should try to extend Sale and Q again. See if they would take Danks type money. I know that would be a HUGE underpayment but another 4 years for each for $60-75M with no-trade options would be great. It would be a long shot but they have both seen what happened to Danks and they have to see all the Tommy Johns going on. Maybe they bite. Not sure why Sale in particular would want to play his prime years for a bad team. This type of thinking is a pipe dream. QUOTE (FT35 @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 09:18 AM) I'd love to keep both because I believe having both gives us the best chance to contend in the years we're supposed to be rebuilding for now. If someone wanted to overpay, I'd part with Q before Sale because Sale has become the face of the franchise. You want all his prime years to be here. ALTHOUGH...something to keep in mind, Sale has been very vocal at times with team matters. He's gone on some public rants about management decisions...makes me wonder if it's because they are like family and he knows that it won't effect their relationship or if there's really conflict between them. Quality starting pitching is causing some teams to lose their minds on the trade market. Teams would trade real, MLB ready talent to get an Ace starting pitcher like either of these guys. The White Sox are no longer in a position where they should be thinking about yearly reload. It's eroding their team, their farm system, their wallets, and their fanbase.

White sox may be reconsidering their stance of being non sellers

QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 09:06 AM) Yeah, I agree with this. Hahn has his warts, and he may actually be bad at his job, but he ain't dumb. The question, I think, is what the goal of the sell is. Is it to contend in 2017? 2018? Beyond? We'll know in 10 days I suppose. I would hope for 2019, 2020. The reason I'm skeptical is I'm not sure the current FO can be counted on to draft fielding talent. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) I think there's only five real candidates. BYU, Colorado State, Memphis, Cincinnati, and UCONN. I'll go with BYU, Memphis -
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 06:59 PM) They just lost fielder so they maybe desperate They haven't really had Fielder this year. The DH was being used as a way to loosen up the log jam in the middle infield. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 07:01 PM) At this point, if the Rangers wanted Abreu and Quintana for a package surrounding Profar and Dillon Tate, I might listen. Saw Profar at AAA Round Rock. Easily the best play on the field. He looks like he might be figuring the majors out, too. Problems with him are you can't necessarily count on his shoulder and he's been in the organization for a while, so his control isn't great.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 01:08 PM) He also has his spots picked for him. If he was playing every day, his production on a per game basis probably takes some sort of hit. I would expect his defensive value to go up playing just one position. I know there are some intricacies regarding player value adjustment based on position, but don't most organizations prefer their top players get more at bats? The fact that Baez has improved without everyday at bats is remarkable.

QUOTE (ronkark @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 02:33 AM) Frazier: This is simply the Chicago hex. Pattern. Dunn on downside, LaRoche on downside. Frazier on downside. Only his upside isn't amazing. Power yes. But look at his second half last year. AWful. We banked on turn around. Well, he's worse. Much worse. LaRoche look at last year before we got him. Same thing. Strong start, awful 2nd half, we pick him up. Frazier swing for fences everytime and chases garbage. It's embarrassing. .210? Really? After the Dunn/LaRoche sagas? Unbelievable. You could have left out that bold sentence and I would have taken this more seriously. Hexes and curses are for bad Cubs fans. We gambled on a Frazier turnaround. While we lost, at least the guy is hitting for power.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 08:21 AM) Did anyone see the play a he plate that Arrieta was called safe on? That is the reason review is needed. It was an absolutely horrendous call that was over turned. I'll not only agree, but I'll do you one better. Replace one of the field umpires with a replay umpire who watches every play from live media cam. There's no need to ever get a call wrong and the coach shouldn't have to demand the umpires correct themselves, either.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 08:27 AM) I've never seen this kind of pressure from Chicago media to sell off before The perception in Chicago Sports Media (not the reality) is that the Cubs rebuilt their franchise on blowing everything up and building their minor league system. While a number of good Cubs players went through their minor league system and the Cubs appear to have drafted well, the Cubs FO found a great deal of success making moves that don't involve the farm system.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 09:56 PM) So who's the Big 12 adding? BYU, maybe? Some of the AAC candidates are just so far away from the heart of the Big 12, but who knows? If I'm UConn, do I want to travel that far for conference games? Probably not. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) This might be the most pessimistic post on this board. "A 10 game win streak would suck." That's how bad this team has been. A 10 game winning streak might get you back into the race, but if Cleveland goes 5-5 over the same span, we're still not leading the division. Heck, if we go on a ten game winning streak and Cleveland goes on a ten game losing streak, we still might not be in first.

July 19th Game Thread: ChiSox@Seattle Mariners

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) These game threads are so barren nowadays. It's just so late and the offense has been so bad. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 08:20 PM) Rethink? You think they're thinking about selling? That is one thought not even close to in their brains. Yeah, my worst fear is the Sox play .500 ball and the FO reconsiders

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 08:07 PM) I'd quit being a Sox fan if this happened. Edit: never mind. Found it

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 01:36 PM) Rangers Nomar Mazara Jurickson Profar Lewis Brinson Joey Gallo Dillon Tate Dodgers Yasiel Puig Austin Barnes Grant Holmes Jose De Leon Red Sox Benintendi Swihart Rafael Devers Eduardo Rodrgiuez Henry Owens Astros Michael Feliz AJ Reed Alex Bregman Francis Martes Derek Fisher I don't think the Red Sox would trade Betts/Bogaerts/Moncada and the Astros won't trade Springer and probably not Bregman either. To me, if the team explored trading Sale/Q (they will look but not make the leap), the Astros with Bregman + or the Rangers are the best options. I know the Sox won't do any of this, but there are multiple positive situations that could come from any of these teams. Really good stuff.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 12:21 PM) Nate Silver did some analysis on the NBA draft picks and somehow projected Valentine as like the 3rd or 4th best player in terms of value over the next 5 years (I think it was 5 years). No idea what basis went into it, but thought I'd point it out. Simmons and Dunn were #1 / #2. So far he looks good. With Hoiberg he'll get some serious minutes.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) Gallo is a younger version of Adam Dunn that K's even more than Dunn ever did. No thanks. Your view of Dunn is clouded by his time in Chicago. If Gallo draws Dunn comparison, that's a compliment. Adam Dunn was a combined 18 win player in Cincinnati. I'm not sure he does, but I'd rather have a cost-controlled poor-man's version of Dunn than the bloated contract we had with the real Adam Dunn. Take Robertson off the table. I would do Quintana for both and a couple of prospects in a heartbeat.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) I would not do that deal. I think Texas would have to throw in another piece to make it balance, but the White Sox would immediately upgrade at middle infield and would potentially have a future 1B. Profar is on the block, ATM.
-
White Sox send: Jose Quintana David Robertson Rangers send: Jurickson Profar Joey Gallo Plus whatever makes it balance.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) Ideally he "retires" before the expansion draft so we don't have to worry about it, and we can protect another roster spot. Ideally he remains productive for the remainder of his contract. If he retires next offseason, the Hawks still pay a penalty.

QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 11:46 PM) I just wanted to add what garbage A** catching he does at times. He cost Robertson at least two strikes. Just terrible. Cool story, bro.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 11:41 PM) Nail in the coffin boys. Fire the entire coaching staff after the season. Fire Hahn, Kenny and the scouts. Start fresh. Go all out for a great young group of fresh faces. Sell sell sell. Fire Hahn, Kenny, Robin. Leave Renteria for now but let the new front office deal with him as necessary.

Blow it up. Let the kids play. So many of us have been saying this for so long. This is what it looks like to play the "go for it every year game" and perennially fail.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) I know you will refuse to admit you are wrong, but here is something explaining the Forbes list and explaining how JRs net worth skyrocketed, not due toa 25 year old lease, but on the sale of the Clippers. Looking at the Internet before the sale his net worth was estimated between $280 million and $350 million. http://www.magazine.org/industry-news/pres...lionaires-issue Jesus, if the Clips are worth $2 billion or whatever, what are the Bulls worth? Forbes says $2.3 billion, but I wouldn't be surprised if that were on the low side.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) Can't trade Sale, Harper etc without winning the trade on paper. All GMs know this so the potential hauls would be nintendo style. I love Chris and it's retarded to trade a HOFer but the idea of adding tons of top guys to our blossoming system sounds fun The team trading away the "superstar" rarely, if ever, wins these trades.
