Abreu. Betting against the streak. -
QUOTE (thedoctor @ May 21, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) i could do without it, but conducting 162 post game interviews means some dumb ish is going to get asked. That is probably the crux of it, really. The difference between today and yesterday and the day before is just so small you can understand why the questions get weirder.

Report: Rangers getting new ballpark
Bananarchy replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) Looks like it will be $1 billion plus, $500 million publicly financed and $500 million from the Rangers (plus the Rangers responsible for cost overruns)...will be finished no later than for the 2021 season. Funds available created by local hotel taxes and early payoff of the bonds for AT&T/Cowboys Stadium. When it comes to both of the stadiums in Arlington, the only real losers are the people who want to go to the games. Dallas has a surprisingly good rail system for a city in Texas, but Arlington has declined to have a station built on said line. Baseball isn't as bad, but football games at AT&T stadium are just a disaster. -
QUOTE (lord chas @ May 20, 2016 -> 09:39 PM) Looks like Jason Heyward just broke his collarbone X-rays are clear. MRI tomorrow. MRI issues tend to be pretty scary though. He definitely looked bad. Edit: Side contusion. Out 3-5 days.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 21, 2016 -> 01:55 AM) This concocted rivalry existed long before inter league play. But even since it has been made mildly meaningful it has mostly fizzled.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 20, 2016 -> 11:31 PM) Batting him second is downright dumb. No reason for it. How bout fourth and keep him there every game of his Sox career. I can't believe Paulo Orlando beat us tonight. We play them 19 times. Bad to see him get confidence in Game One of 19. Cain also raked. We are in trouble. I look for Moose to be a problem tomorrow. yeah, that doesn't really make any sense.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 20, 2016 -> 10:26 PM) Home plate umpiring has been worse then ever and now MLB is going to change the strike zone like it will make a difference Until computers keep the umpires honest, nothing seems likely to change.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 20, 2016 -> 07:23 PM) No such thing...go back to Northside. THANK YOU.

Ventura will earn his extension the next 43 games

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 20, 2016 -> 10:50 PM) Thing is ... Sox played so well for such a long period of time (six weeks is a long period of great baseball) it looked like we had a special team. We were rattling off win after win, even without scoring many runs. Now loss after loss. It's true, though, the adage that it's all about the players. At 23-10 Robin looked like a genius, confidently making out the lineup and making the right calls. When the bullpen reeks and nobody can hit a home run cept Frazier and only 2 starters are godly, then the manager looks like a bozo. And Robin is still all nonsense. You can deal with the inopportune bunting and the silly lineup decisions when the Sox are winning, but when they look bad Robin gets exposed. -
5/20- Kansas City @ White Sox- 7:10 PM CT
Bananarchy replied to Jose Abreu's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ May 20, 2016 -> 10:56 PM) I'll answer for you. Because we get to see and hear about how amazing the Cubs are and watch and hear about how much of a fraud we are. The Cubs are in Chicago so as we continue to pretend we will be reminded of what a real baseball team looks like every day. Seriously, get over the Cubs. This is Soxtalk. There's an MLB forum for that trash. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2016 -> 10:10 PM) Just 2 hits since the 4th inning (would have been nice if Sanchez could have had that hit in the last week when we really need one). White Sox fans should get a refund. And of course the Cubs are destroying the Giants. Perfectly crappy night that started out so promisingly in Boston. Ton of called 3rd strikes tonight for someone with such pedestrian stuff. The bold is why "Lazy Journalism" is a thread on here. Why the heck do you care and what does this have to do with the White Sox game? I'm sorry, losing is super frustrating and the Cubs score does nothing to help. -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 20, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) Sox -Cubs rivalry defies logic but so many of us bought into it. But if you follow the series over the years, the infatuation with that rivalry is over. it was novel for the first decade the games counted, but now people just care less than ever. Yeah, Sox and Cubs fans give each other a ribbing or whatever, but the excitement over that silly series has subsided locally. The national media just hasn't paid enough attention to notice.

All of a sudden, that Robin extension talk looks ridiculous. You can survive a bad week, but a bad fortnight is a lot of bad. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 20, 2016 -> 09:22 PM) Like I said in the beginning of the year, he is the most frustrating hitter on this team by far. But people laughed at me The level of hostility on this board has been rough lately. The fact is, Abreu has been really bad. Bad enough to call into question this team's ability to succeed.

Wow. This is like highway robbery. The Rangers get the best deal imaginable. Jeez -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 20, 2016 -> 08:44 PM) That answers the questin of super hero movies slowing down or not. Honestly, as long as Marvel gets about half of the super hero films right (which I believe it has more than exceeded that mark), they will continue to print money.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:14 PM) I have yet to see Joe Maddon asked about the White Sox, nor have I seen Jake Arrieta asked about Chris Sale. Even if this were going on, it would legitimize this a little bit more in my eyes. That definitely has to do with the fact that "tradition" (for lack of a better word to describe weak journalism tradition) says that the Sox are supposed to care more about the Cubs than vice-versa. I wouldn't expect either team to care at all about each other. They're different divisions and most of them aren't from the area.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:06 PM) It is lazy journalism, because the same members of the media will be the first to mock Sox fans for caring more about the Cubs than their own team after doing the same thing by asking these irrelevant questions. The mocking Sox fans is definitely lazy journalism. The focusing on Cubs success is somewhat borderline, IMHO. Cubs stories get eyes.
-
I agree. Today's media is just so lazy that most of it can't be considered journalism. That being said, can we start by admitting pitching wins are meaningless (because they are)? Chris Sale is having an amazing year, but pitching wins still don't matter. Instead of wins, we should focus on better metrics. See Win Probability Added.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 20, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Easily the most talented, yes. I just dislike when people forget the past. Agreed 100%. Team winning (not pitcher wins) matters. Longevity matters.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 20, 2016 -> 02:09 PM) Ted Lyons spent 21 seasons with the team and is a HoFer. Ed Walsh had the first championship for the team, designed Comiskey and had some of the most dominant seasons ever. Sale's in striking distance though. Pitching across eras is really hard. Harder than batting even, but it's really hard to argue with longevity with one team. If Sale has real post-season success, it's a no brainer. If Sale signs here past his current contract, it's a no-brainer when he reaches the late point in his career. However, if the organization fails to make the postseason during Sale's tenure and he signs elsewhere (the latter of which seems fairly likely), he'll trail the likes of Buehrle and Lyons. I don't think it's a stretch to say he's the most talented pitcher we have ever had.
-
Back on topic. Not only are you right about Frank and Sale among the best athletes in White Sox history, it's also interesting that each has had some misfortune when it comes to postseason appearances. Thomas made the postseason in 1993 and 2000 (also 2005 but wasn't available to play) and Sale has yet to play in the postseason.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 20, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) Slow day conversation. Quite possibly by the end of this decade Sox fans in their 30s or older can say they watched in person the greatest Sox pitcher and hitter of all time. Anyone doing anything special knowing that in thirty or forty years your grand-kids may be asking did you really see Sale pitch? Hell to expand it, Chicago fans, we've grown up with some of the greatest all time players on all of the major Chicago sports teams. Chicago sports fans in their forties have had the most good fortune of any fanbase (outside of maybe Boston) Chicago (mid fourties): Bears 1985 Bulls 1990-1998 (6) White Sox 2005 Blackhawks 2010 - 2015 (3)
