Off day ruminations
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2016 -> 07:50 AM) Because you don't bump your ace. Agreed. There's honestly no need. There's a long season ahead.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 17, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) What history? The Cabrera trade isn't even close to the same scenario. Trout is way better than Cabrera, and has more years of control than Miguel did when he was traded. Cabrera wasn't even close to the "best player in baseball" at the time he was traded either. Pujols, A-Rod, Sizemore, Utley, Wright and Mauer were all better players at the time of the trade. It's a stupid argument anyway. The Angels will struggle to move Trout. They're bound to ask for too much.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 17, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) I'd actually rather have Russell as the headliner than Bryant. You are looking at a potential 5-6 WAR SS that is like 22 years old. Russell is a stuuuud. Agreed. Russell through his age is doing things Jeter and Ripken didn't do. It doesn't look as impressive to the eye, but he is really an unreal player. If I'm the Cubs, I'm not moving any two guys AND the farm for trout. I would have Russell and Rizzo off the table. Anyone else I could move, but I'm not sure. Trout is one guy who plays one position and the Cubs are stacked at multiple positions.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 17, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) When you have the best player in baseball, you hold plenty of cards. Angels aren't trading Trout, but if they did at least a couple major league players are coming back. Prospects alone aren't getting it done. History tells us no, you don't. To move a player like that requires a high degree of desperation.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 17, 2016 -> 08:33 AM) That's why it starts with Kris Bryant, not ends there. No, it still doesn't. It would probably take most of the Cubs' 5 top 100 prospects, but not Bryant. The Halos don't really hold any cards on this. If they don't trade Trout, they're still completely hosed.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 17, 2016 -> 06:33 AM) Mike Trout's 5 most similar players through age 23: Miguel Cabrera, Hank Aaron, Ken Griffey Jr, Frank Robinson, Mickey Mantle. He'd most likely be the best player ever traded. A package headlined by Kyle Schwarber doesn't even get a conversation. Starts with Kris Bryant and Addison Russell in my opinion. Trading for Bryant doesn't solve their problem. The halos need a haul to rebuild their franchise. Kris Bryant is just a worse Mike Trout in that scenario. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2016 -> 07:52 AM) I wouldn't call him Babe Ruth just yet. Through age 23, the comparisons to Babe Ruth are completely fair.

Early Trade Speculation
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 16, 2016 -> 07:25 PM) I really like where you're going with this. He's young, left handed, solid defensively, and has ridiculous speed. He'd be a great #2 hitter behind Eaton for sure. What do you think we would have to offer?

Jason >>>>>>>>>>> Hawk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 16, 2016 -> 07:09 PM) The resident ownership hater claimed that the difference between Sox fans and Cubs fans bases today is Harry Caray. The internet is truly a wonderful place. Thanks for the quick reset.

Jason >>>>>>>>>>> Hawk
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 16, 2016 -> 06:33 PM) Good post. If you, as one poster said, truly had to get a special antennae just for the channel the Sox were on, well that was suicide for the Sox right there. I'm surprised they are still in Chicago after a decision like that. Thank heaven newspapers were a big deal back then and radio was a big deal and they covered the Sox properly. Honestly, I'm not sure what we're arguing about anymore. Did this start with the claim that Hawk is as important to the White Sox as Harry was to the Cubs? I honestly can't remember. Love Jason Benetti, though.

Airport Security
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 16, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) Have u traveled much lately? The public is getting sick of it and is demanding action. Nobody wants to go to the airport 4 hours early to catch a stinking flight where you are cramed in like sardines. Two unrelated things. You are correct that people don't want to show up at the airport 4 hours early, but the sardines part is false. People have continually shown they will take a lot less in terms of amenities for the sake of lower prices.

2016 "Independent Third Party" Presidential Nominees
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 13, 2016 -> 02:24 PM) On the other end of the spectrum, the Green party kinda-sorta accepts anti-vaxxer nonsense and other medical woo like homeopathy. The irony that a party that calls itself "Green" is anti-science. Anyone who is anti-vaxxer should be disqualified from voting.

Jason >>>>>>>>>>> Hawk
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 16, 2016 -> 06:17 PM) Harry was known as an ass hole (not to the common fan, but to the bean counter types) and the Sox were glad to see him go. Unfortunately the common fan worships Harry, rightly so, and that destroyed the Sox. Harry going over to the Cubs was a major hit. I feel like Harry was a piece of the a perfect storm on the north side. The "lovable losers", the old ballpark in that neighborhood, the stretch, and WGN. Regardless of where you were in the country, you could watch Cubs games. For a lifelong White Sox fan, I never really got it. Why cheer for a s*** product? But the Cubs accidentally captured all of it. The White Sox, at the same time, had a crap TV deal, built a new (at the time awful) stadium in a less fun neighborhood. I never got Sportschannel as a kid, so I had to go to a friend's house or hope one of the WGN White Sox games was on when I could watch. It's not hard to get why the two Chicago teams are where they are right now, but it's also not as simple as "this team had Harry Caray and this one didn't"

2016 AL Central catch-all thread
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 15, 2016 -> 05:56 PM) At least all the other AL central teams suck right now Rough week and only lost one game. I'll take it. No one seems to want to chase this team.

2016 Cubs catch-all thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 16, 2016 -> 03:11 PM) Yeah, for Anaheim, that deal has to start with an actual star major leaguer. Russell or Bryant is the starting place of that deal. Maybe. You look at what the Marlins got for Cabrera (and Willis), and you realize that there's no winning moving the best player in baseball in his prime. The Cubs, Dodgers, or Red Sox could potentially get Trout without moving an MLB ready player. It has been done before.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 16, 2016 -> 05:16 PM) Where? Limbaugh's website? Sounds like a Breitbart headline. They are still having trouble proving malice, which is a big part of the investigation.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 16, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) Please explain how this happens. How do schools police which males are transgender and can go into the girls shower and which ones aren't? You're right about not being a troll. You're just terribly naive in thinking that this won't create a ton of problems. Honestly, I don't expect schools to be able to police. I think it should be simple. Schools should not interfere with gender identity of its students. HOWEVER, if they feel that a person is being dishonest, the school should be able to have that person talk to a psychologist (many schools employ them. Heck, they could even go to a third party).

Airport Security
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 16, 2016 -> 10:07 AM) I don't really get the outrage over them. Not at all a big deal to me. Agreed. They don't bother me and they don't work. I'm more annoyed by the line waiting and getting treated like a criminal for no reason.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 16, 2016 -> 09:00 AM) I'm not worried about the transgendered person. I'm worried about the straight guys who are going to claim to be transgendered in order to get a look at my daughter. I've said this at least a dozen times in this thread, so are you trolling or ignorant?????? So what you're saying is, if school officials did their job and prevented heterosexual males from claiming to be transgender, you would be all on board. Good news: Most teachers and school officials are educated enough to know the difference between a heterosexual and a transgender individual. We seriously need a moratorium on the term "trolling". You are far too quick to cry troll when your argument is terrible.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 16, 2016 -> 08:37 AM) This is the election of people complaining about candidate supporters. Every time someone does something crazy it has to be a reflection of that candidates whole base. Maybe every election is like that and I just never noticed. This one is particularly contentious on the Dem side. I think Bernie is a decent man, but his followers are desperate now that he won't be the candidate. I am seriously tired about hearing how crooked the DNC or Hillary is.

Airport Security
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 14, 2016 -> 05:21 PM) Interesting to read about how airport security is done in Israel. https://www.quora.com/What-is-it-like-to-go...urity-in-Israel I understand that profiling isn't always the right way to go, but I do believe the use of profiling in certain ways can be efficient without trampling on the rights of good citizens.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 16, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) Yes, I don't want them checking out my daughter. Maybe none of you who are OK with this don't have daughters. I don't want to marginalize anybody. I want people to stop and come up with a different solution to the issue than letting anybody in to where anybody is showering. If a person is transgender, they probably don't care what your daughter looks like showering. Even lesbians probably don't look sideways at your daughter when she's showering. Locker rooms aren't inherently provocative places. The far right treats people like complete animals, when far and away they are not and are more responsible.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) It bothers me that you haven't read much of what I've written and don't have a clue what I'm talking about. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) It bothers me that you don't have a clue. Wasted posts. You're afraid of transgender people. The sooner you admit that, the sooner you'll recognize what we already know. You don't understand transgender people and therefore they must be trying to assault your daughter.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 15, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) Apparently the Bernie Bros at the Nevada Democratic Convention were doing some more of what they do best. Bernie's candidacy has been doing more bad than good, it seems. His supporters are going collectively more insane.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2016 -> 01:08 PM) I'm sure for some on the far religious right, it is an attack on the "T", but for a whole lot of us, it's just simply we don't want any dudes allowed anywhere that our daughters are naked. I have sympathy for the problems that transgenders are facing. I just think we've come up with an absolutely horrible solution. Does it not bother you that your daughter's female gym teacher is as dangerous to your children as a trans high schooler?

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 15, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) How many f***ing times do people have to say that it's not a fear of transgendered people--it's a fear of straight people taking advantage of the situation? It's only been said fifty times in this thread? Are you that dense or just intentionally ignoring what's been said because it doesn't jive with your far lefty commie views? And yes, there are already plenty of cases of straight guys doing exactly that. You're very passionate about this issue. Does it bother you that any law on this issue would be virtually unenforceable? Does it bother you that this whole argument is transphobia looking for a problem?
