Surging White Sox have earned Ventura new contract
Bananarchy replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) What I find interesting is 30 games into the season you think the White Sox haven't needed a "real" manager. What point of the season does that need kick in? And if Ventura had been replaced last year and a new guy was at the helm now, would you still not be giving the new guy any credit and not using the performance thus far against Robin? I think you would considering you used sitting out this season as proof Thins was a very flawed NBA coach. Nobody wanted him. The point where they go through a slide. It's not that hard. Robin has proven he can't deal with real, on the field adversity. Period. Thank god portions of this team have over performed. And with regards to Thibs, the whole Bulls org hated him because he was a nutcase. Looking forward to watching his big guns play 46 minutes against the 76ers in Minnesota. -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 7, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) The Twins destroy Sale. I have a bad feeling about this game But even then, it kind of doesn't matter, right? It's game 30 and this team looks a special kind of bad this year. -

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 7, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) Cmon dude, thicken the skin a little bit. AustinIllini is trolling with the "Imagine how good the Sox would be with a REAL manager" comment. That comment is so not based in fact it's comical, thereby deserving of any comment anybody says. The way I defend Hawk is similar; all heart & gut but no real fact. My opinion is that Robin has the boys playing at their top level right now, his bullpen use has been fabulous, his rotation shuffling has been really smart, and the players seem to be responding well. Looks damn good so far. Not anfan of Maddon and his arrogance- Robin is a man's man. I don't agree with you, so I'm trolling . Whatever dude. I don't hate the Cubs, so I'm trolling. I correctly predicted the Hawks would struggle without four defensemen, so I'm trolling. This board can be a greatest hits of whiners sometimes. But seriously, let's re-sign a manger after 30 games. That's what the good teams do, right? -
I don't necessarily believe in Avi (although his OPS+ is shockingly high), but his absence on the field is another reminder of what a great subtraction Adam LaRoche was.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) Probably undefeated. Sarcasm aside, this team will likely struggle and the pitching will likely regress to some extent, and at that point we will be wanting a real manager. -
Eaton making his contract look like a steal. Rick Hahn looks like a genius when his players perform.

I know baseball doesn't work this way, but I wouldn't even have Sale pitch against Minny. It's sad we have to use a Sale start against that sorry band of losers. -

Imagine this team with a real manager. I'm sorry, it's still not Robin (loved him as a player, btw). He has improved, but he's still mediocre. -
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 6, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) The positive thing is, pretty much their whole team is due for a ton of regression. The entire pitching staff specifically. They can be .500 the rest of the season and win 89 games. That won't happen. They'll win over 100. And yeah, this is a long term deal. The Cubs aren't the Sox. The Cubs TV network will literally print money and they'll re-sign everybody. Think Blackhawks with no Salary Cap.

This type of stuff just makes me hate college football. The crimes of Sandusky and the criminal negligence of the men around him is atrocious. Second to that, what disturbs me is the fact that this could happen anywhere in college football culture. The blind hero worship of the rampant college football fanbases across the country are the perfect opportunity for these kinds of things to happen.

St. Louis continues to play a brutal brand of hockey. The Blackhawks (and now the Stars) had some success "out-skilling" the Blues, but in both series so many infractions are committed and not called. I hate the Blues.

QUOTE (soxfan85 @ May 5, 2016 -> 09:50 PM) Barring an injury to a key pitcher or something, it is hard not seeing them getting to the WS and then possibly winning it. It seems like EVERYTHING is just kind of going their way. Over a 162 game season, you would think they would have some "downs," but who knows? Hell, it even seems like every "challenge" goes their way, it really does. Pretty amazing, really. And as I write this, old man Zobrist with a two run HR to Center. See what I mean? Crazy for a team with such a young core, too. Ownership has to get Epstein re-signed.

QUOTE (lord chas @ May 5, 2016 -> 08:52 PM) I hear rumbles his producer Matt Abbatacola has gotten himself into some trouble. Caught sleeping around with a former Blackhawks ice girl and wrecking two marriages. Sad! Not sure that qualifies as "getting yourself in trouble".

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ May 3, 2016 -> 09:56 PM) Jim Nill put together an offensive powerhouse, forgetting about the other 2 phases of hockey. The Stars started with absolutely nothing three years ago. Jim Nill rightly understood offensive depth was a way to win games quickly. That being said, the Blues just have a better rounded team, and Dallas' second best scorer is out. The good news for Dallas is Klingberg and Johns are the top line of the future and they actually have draft picks and prospects.

Danks will get to retire to his Nashville mansion and live like a king. Looking forward to see what becomes of our fifth starter position.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 1, 2016 -> 11:09 PM) Fair enough, but that's obviously not his point. No matter the experience he gets he'll never have played pro ball, he'll never understand the mental or physical side of the game, or anything relating to the human side of the game. To Benetti, the players aren't men, they're just amusing little mice with statistics. To Hawk, the players are living breathing men in the trenches of a war, with injuries, differing levels of intellect, different strategies, different levels of nervousness, different backgrounds etc. things Benetti will never be able to comment on. Thanks for telling me the guy's batting average benetti. I get it. He gets on base 34% of the time. That's what the number means. Oh, you want to use advanced statistics? How dare you act like you're teaching any of us baseball- you've never played. I'm sure he's a nice guy and he'll be great. This is just my hazing period for him. And rightfully so. No Sox fan should just hand over the keys without him earning it. It'll be hazing season for a while, hopefully a long while. He's trying to replace one of the most unique and iconic broadcasting figures this world has and will ever see. A true master and a true legend. This is baseball, THE statistics sport. A player today is much closer to a mouse with statistics than he is to Fasty McWiggington who played half a season in 1956. No one wants to be told about "levels of nervousness" or "trenches of war" because in a good game, the feeling is tangible. You know the players are nervous because you're nervous. You don't need some bumbling idiot to tell you about it. Hawk has been unlistenable for at least 5 years.

Jamie Benn might be the best all around player in hockey.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 30, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) Bears Twitter pic of Hall has him listed as a CB, I wonder what their plans are with him I would assume Safety with a fourth round pick. Maybe not?
-
Deiondre Hall. Okay.
-
Really liking this Bears fourth round. Pace clearly had a mission. He clearly thought he would overspend for a need in earlier rounds.

Elliot had 40 saves. Blues lost 2-1 in Dallas
