  1. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ May 3, 2016 -> 09:56 PM) Jim Nill put together an offensive powerhouse, forgetting about the other 2 phases of hockey. The Stars started with absolutely nothing three years ago. Jim Nill rightly understood offensive depth was a way to win games quickly. That being said, the Blues just have a better rounded team, and Dallas' second best scorer is out. The good news for Dallas is Klingberg and Johns are the top line of the future and they actually have draft picks and prospects.
  2. Danks will get to retire to his Nashville mansion and live like a king. Looking forward to see what becomes of our fifth starter position.
  3. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 1, 2016 -> 11:09 PM) Fair enough, but that's obviously not his point. No matter the experience he gets he'll never have played pro ball, he'll never understand the mental or physical side of the game, or anything relating to the human side of the game. To Benetti, the players aren't men, they're just amusing little mice with statistics. To Hawk, the players are living breathing men in the trenches of a war, with injuries, differing levels of intellect, different strategies, different levels of nervousness, different backgrounds etc. things Benetti will never be able to comment on. Thanks for telling me the guy's batting average benetti. I get it. He gets on base 34% of the time. That's what the number means. Oh, you want to use advanced statistics? How dare you act like you're teaching any of us baseball- you've never played. I'm sure he's a nice guy and he'll be great. This is just my hazing period for him. And rightfully so. No Sox fan should just hand over the keys without him earning it. It'll be hazing season for a while, hopefully a long while. He's trying to replace one of the most unique and iconic broadcasting figures this world has and will ever see. A true master and a true legend. This is baseball, THE statistics sport. A player today is much closer to a mouse with statistics than he is to Fasty McWiggington who played half a season in 1956. No one wants to be told about "levels of nervousness" or "trenches of war" because in a good game, the feeling is tangible. You know the players are nervous because you're nervous. You don't need some bumbling idiot to tell you about it. Hawk has been unlistenable for at least 5 years.
  4. Jamie Benn might be the best all around player in hockey.
  5. Bears take IU RB Jordan Howard
  6. Cardale Jones to Buffalo
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 30, 2016 -> 12:54 PM) Cowboys take Dak Prescott I swear they're drunk
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 30, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) Bears Twitter pic of Hall has him listed as a CB, I wonder what their plans are with him I would assume Safety with a fourth round pick. Maybe not?
  9. Deiondre Hall. Okay.
  10. Really liking this Bears fourth round. Pace clearly had a mission. He clearly thought he would overspend for a need in earlier rounds.
  11. Elliot had 40 saves. Blues lost 2-1 in Dallas
  12. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 07:12 AM) Nashville and St.Louis escaped the 1st round. Weird playoffs already. One of Dallas, San Jose, Nashville, or St. Louis will be in the Cup Finals. That's so bad. DFW is a huge market, but not for hockey.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) This Hastart sentencing testimony is so sad. Important to remember it isn't just the initial assault on these victims, but how it can scar and destroy their lives (and families). Such a devastating situation. He should go away forever.
  14. No way Elliot reaches the Bears. I'm reasonably sure that Dallas or a team trading up to 3 will draft him.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 09:11 PM) Sign cheap foreign free agents and draft well and it's sustainable. However at some point maybe 2018 or 19 you are going to have to start chipping away at the core. The next piece to have a contract end (assuming not Panarin, who needs to be extended or Teuvo, who is super inexpensive) is Bickell in 2018 and Hjalmarsson in 2019. I would expect both of them to come off the books when their time comes.
  16. Stan Bowman has nailed the model as best he can. Don't get attached to anyone outside the core. And the core has reached peak expansion at this point, so don't get too attached to anyone no longer under contract, as the core can only swap out pieces with contracts expiring.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 10:11 AM) Bingo. He's an elite 3rd liner right now. Vision and speed still there. I still believe if Keith didn't get suspended game 1, we won this series in 6. But it is what it is. Who is your new first line? Kane-Toews-Panarin?
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 09:44 PM) That list is too long. No time for that. The shorter list is trying to name one better. Everyone in Chicago less the Bulls broadcast team is better than Hawk. He took over for Santo. And yeah, Jason Benetti asks Stone a lot of questions. He should, because Stone is the best single asset to the White Sox media program, with Benetti a close second now.
  19. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Apr 26, 2016 -> 08:06 AM) He's fine if he's not on the top two lines. St. Louis was the better team for much of the series, although they had really shaky goaltending last night. Hawks failed to convert a few real nice chances. It's officially baseball season now. I agree with you, heck, in the regular season we can get away with Hossa on the top two lines, but when it all comes down to it, it might be time to run Kane-Toews together regularly given how much better they look together.
  20. Callers on local radio saying Hossa needs to retire. Hossa is going to be with the Hawks for years in some fashion. That recapture is nasty. Also, everyone calling this a complete failure of a season. I don't disagree, but let's be honest, if this team wasn't going to win the Cup, it's best that they go out in the first round. The Blackhawks are playing so much extra hockey every year, this is probably a deserved long offseason.
  21. QUOTE (South Sider @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 11:11 PM) I agree that the extra time off is nice, but I absolutely felt that this team could handle Dallas. I was a bit more uncertain about Anaheim or San Jose in the Western Finals, but it would have been a good series either way. Beyond that, I feel that the Hawks could handle any of the Eastern teams in the Final. It's nice to get that time off, but extremely disappointing to lose because I wanted to see how far this particular group could go if they were able to get by St. Louis. I just don't know which Stars team shows up next round. If Lehtonen is good, they have a shot against anyone but they have to score a ton.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 10:41 PM) Yeah in terms of being upset, I didn't have the highest of expectations for this season. They had the one stretch of insanity during the 12 game streak, but never really had that "it" quality otherwise. They looked like a team in transition for a lot of this season. They will be back for sure. In reality, if the Blackhawks weren't going to win the Cup this year, it's probably better that they didn't have another fruitless playoff run. It sucks that Ladd will be gone again. Tough enough to see him go the first time.
  23. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 10:18 PM) Not supposed to say this, but this is the first time I'll be rooting hard for Dallas. Knock these f***ers out. I'm not sure they can
  24. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 05:49 PM) Wrong. Name one worse. King, maybe.
