  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) Shack, you are more than have the right to cheer him if you choose. I'm not going to. That's all I've said. I'm not trying to impose my will/opinion on everybody in the thread (that garbage goes on in filibuster). lol. You lose right there, dude. Far as Paterno, he's dead. We will never get his full side of the story. I have no doubt in my mind that the totality of the entire situation accelerated the death of what was already an elderly man. Paterno is guilty of not doing enough, being naive, caring for a friend (even a sick one), etc. Brett Myers went Mike Tyson on a woman. And if you really think that was an isolated incident aka it never happened before, don't know what to tell ya. What makes you think that it has happened before. What evidence do you have to think it has happened since? Speculation. Lets get to the real point. Hes a veteran arm in the pen and we added him. Im sure KW did his homework on the guy and with Coop he will probably become a better pitcher. As long as Wil "Oldman" Ohman is not in the pen im sure we are all happy.
  2. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 06:29 PM) I was called into a house which looked like wwiii happened. Wife bleeding, jaw broken eye swollen shut. The hubby is drunk and has scratch marks. She told me that nothing happened either. Guess what. I didn't believe them. He went to jail. That is a bastard and he deserved to go to jail.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 06:24 PM) I've had police try to convince my girlfriend that I hit her for no particular reason before so the "she was swollen at the time but didn't bruise" thing didn't fly with me. The description they gave of both being too drunk makes me wonder if it is as clean-cut as people would like it to see. I've seen a woman drunkenly batter a man physically and verbally and to think he won't retaliate in kind when super drunk is not as unreasonable as simple "wife-beater." But then again, both of us are speculating, aren't we? You're just eager to to pass judgment when the guy probably just got too rough while drunkenly arguing with his girl. He almost certainly made a bad mistake, but I can't be sure that it's as bad or simple as described and I don't think it is fair to convict the non-convicted in this case. This
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 21, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) The police found her crying with a swollen cheek. The guy hit his wife in public. You may want to believe it was the only time he's ever abused a woman, but the odds are heavily against it. I know players are not all saints and probably most are total assholes, but guys who hit women are cowards and aren't going to be getting any respect from me. Ever. I'm just fascinated at all the posters who will defend him now that he's a White Sox. During his career, he's been beat up worse than he beat his wife by AL teams 5.64 ERA, near .900 OPS against. Great move KW. Im not defending him I am just saying odds aside it happened one time that we are told. They both said they were both wasted and I know it is no excuse but it happend... when he was 25 that is 6 years ago. If she can forgive him I think we can be fine with him pitching in the pen which needs help. I agree noone should ever hit a woman. To all those people who said if you got your penis superglued to your stomach well thats your own fault for being with a crazy chick that would do that to you. Personally I wont boo him for pitching i just wont be going out to the bar after sox games with women looking to see Brett. Root for the black and white not the blue and purple.
  5. It helps alot of our pitching needs and if Houston sends us cash we will be in great shape. Brett messed up one time and thats all you know. His wife did not even have brusing and Brett is no little guy. I want to say that he messed up and we should forgive him because it was 6 years ago and not reoccuring. We dont know if he has done it again or in the past. Maybe he has anger issues and has solved them considering we have not heard of another incident like this. I'd like to see if he went to therapy or something after the incident with his wife.
  6. Pretty new to the site and happy to see this as a reminder. I like how the debate on here is. Great job by the Admins to try and keep it civil and a real disscusion/ debate instead of an attack on a poster.
  7. QUOTE (northside sawx @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 05:46 PM) Yep, very serviceable and cost effecient compared to the price tags on others. He would give us a nice back end starter while not sacrificing what's left in the farm. I would be very confident in a Peavy-Sale-Danks(assuming healthy) trio should we make the playoffs. Agreed Sanchez is one of the better options that doesnt take the little we do have in the farm.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 05:38 PM) Accoring to Cot's, the selection earned Peavy $25k. It doesn't say anything for Dunn, not sure if he got a bonus. Knowing these two standout guys though they will probably make a hefty donation to a charity of their choosing with the money they earned at the allstar game. Would have liked to see Dunn in the HRD though get that homerun swing back a little bit. Especially because he didnt play in the game. Probably a good break for Jake though. A little extra rest never hurt anyone.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 02:20 PM) One other thing on the Greinke/Hamels discussion...if we wanted to go after either of them, the team we're going to have to beat for them is the Rangers, who sure as heck sound like they're willing to part with 3b prospect Mike Olt (#34 on BA's list coming into the year) for starting pitching. Makes sense anyway, since Adrian Beltre isn't giving up their 3b spot for several years. D*** Rangers, but happy they would take him instead of us because we dont need him. Edited and by need him I mean we dont need to give up what it takes to get him. Of course it would be wonderful to have hamels/greinke but lets be serious is it worth 3-5 prospects including Dayan and/or AddiReed along with another outfielder from our minors like thompson or Mitchell (most likely the later) and maybe a Q or Jones. I just dont see how that actually helps the team. It takes away from other major positions. Just does not add up to me.
  10. Bullpen will get a much needed rest from the ASB and I really dont think a SP is what we need if Danks/Humber come back. If we can get DA out of the rotation we will be fine. I think we add a reliever at most to this team not a big name starter. It just is not necessary at this point in time to go spend alot for a rental. King Felix would be great but we would tear what is left of our farm system up to get him. I say we probably get a guy like Choate or someone of that nature, but then again what do I know what KW wants to do. Stranger things have happened.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) Adam Dunn's hit chart this season. He does occasionally slap it to left for a base hit. Man he gets out alot in short right. I wonder how many are the 2B and how many are the RF.
  12. Sorry Im at work it didnt show up on these awful old computers. I apologize for the D**k comment.
  13. QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) Heath Bell? Why? AddiReed is doing just fine and you have Thorton Jones and Crain who can all close we need a middle of the pen guy or a setup man... I'd say look for a deal linking Santiago with another youngster for a starter or a middle guy because if Danks is healthy we have a long man in Humber. I say KW sits on this for a little bit and sees how our young pitchers do in the start of the 2nd half
  14. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:53 PM) Coins will definitely play a big part in this decision, but not in a flip/heads-or-tails kind of way. I see what you did there
  15. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:43 PM) And could we throw stuff at him? only rotten fruit and things of that nature hes not worth anything of price
  16. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:34 PM) Flip a coin for which one (Danks or Humber) goes in the rotation when they're back, cuz Quintana's here to stay. Danks put the lefty in the rotation put humber in the Pen besides his perfect game he has not been great at all. Danks was hurt thats why i think he pitched mediocore at best. This team with those two arms healthy might put us deep in the hunt for october.
  17. I mean we did also just sweep the Rangers at home. Thats pretty impressive.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:25 PM) Winning two out of three in Minneapolis was almost more impressive for the Sox. Agreed Target field is a Sox killer but still just saying it feels good when people thought we would be near the basement of the division and we are taking or spliting series with teams that are in the top 5 in the MLB power rankings
  19. Feels good to go 5-2 against the "best two teams" in the AL. Sox obviously deserve more representation in the ASgame
  20. Reed looks good and ready to get out of the rain.
  21. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:14 PM) Best lefty in the al...Q or Sale? Sale. He is unbelieveable this year
  22. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) Taking Quintana out in LA but leaving him in today does not make sense. hes got a few more innings under his belt and his stamina has probably become more apparent to RV. This guy is a beast hope he sticks around and pitches like this throughout the year.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 03:01 PM) So does Adam Dunn and he's going to KC. Hes all about HRs though and he is in the top 5 in the category. People want to see a high scoring Allstar game not guys who hit for a good average and decent power numbers hence AJP not making it. Which is utter S***
  24. Work day and only free fireworks when YOUK goes deep today. It is hot out though. Im glad I work indoors.
