  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 07:36 PM) So here's my only question...can Alomar catch a forkball in the dirt? Because if he can't, we're in real trouble on Tuesday. Probably not, which is why Contreras will be in trouble with runners in scoring position. Opposing teams won't have to worry much about a forkball. My only question is how can Everett not believe in dinosaurs when Sandy Alomar is walking around? He looks and moves around every bit his age, unlike Julio Franco.
  2. I consider any player traded for Alomar with the potential to become a major league player as overpaying. Whether that's scrub reliever or 4th OF.
  3. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) Also, could it be that a move is in the works that would involve Haeger coming up resulting in Widger being DFA'd and Stewart coming up as Haeger's caddy? I could envision a scenario, albeit unlikely, where a starter is traded and Haegar provides temporary relief in the rotation. This is only until McCarthy gradually builds up a pitch count. Whether that regimen be from Charlotte, out of the bullpen, or established through spot starts with Haegar.
  4. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) LOL. Right. Nice change of the subject. He called him that before the game, we heard about it in the post game stories after the game. DId we play a 12-hour game I didn't know about? I should have worded that differently. It wasn't blown up to a huge proportion until 12 hours afterwards. Fathom told me within the particular game. And no, they weren't brought up post game. Whether his source is a media member or not, they told him relatively quick. I don't recall ANYONE mentioning his comments during the game. I'm not attempting to cheerlead for him here. It's not as if all sources of information I check with FAthom. I merely believe he has someone within baseball with more inside knowledge than us.
  5. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) LOL. Don't pretend you have sources. It's not becoming. When Guillen called Mariotti a f**, Fathom mentioned it nearly 12 hours before any news outlet ran the story. Because Tracey is pitching for this club doesn't prove much. Williams probably believes Guillen overreacted. Ultimately, it's his decision which matters.
  6. Noticed Minnesota's latest minor league callup has contributed immediately. No surprise there. So, where's our Pat Neshek?
  7. QUOTE(Ozzie @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Garland throws a pitch that looks like the JFK Magic Bullet. It's amazing how pitchers can hit locations within a 1ft by 1ft box, but yet, can't hit a standing body. I wouldn't suggest retaliation was necessary, but cmon -- it looks even more pathetic if Kinsler is sitting still in the box and fastballs are thrown behind him.
  8. The called out actually saved us there. Run would have scored regardless on the groundout, but it definitely would have been a DP. Bases would be empty Now another opportunity to score a run.
  9. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 11:44 PM) There's a name noone talks about. Hawk sure as hell hasn't mentioned his name lately. In the past, he's practically been his cheerleader. Earlier in the season, when a runner was sent and thrown out, the excuse to explain such a decision was, "Cora is one of the best I"ve ever seen at third base. He isn't afraid to push the envelope. Sometimes it doesn't work, more than not it does." Now? Silence. Every outfielder has seemingly adopted strong arms with tremendous accuracy.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th with the other team not having any chance to retaliate until tomorrow, beyond perfect. But Buck is far too classy for some petty spiff like that right? RIGHT? I don't know what purpose Hawk/DJ served by ignoring such logic, but I couldn't believe they did. Almost as if they didn't want listeners to have the impression we were being pushed around.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) Buehrle is just not that good. He's not, and neither is our pitching staff as a whole. We're going to need production from our minor league system within the immediate future. This rotation obviously can't continue performing through the life of their contracts.
  12. Anyone who believes, as Hawk/DJ did, that Podsednik's HBP wasn't intentional is certifiably baseball retarded. It couldn't have been a better situation to drill one of our hitters. And gues what? Not only were our pitchers disgraced, hitters overwhelmed, but Texas stomped on our corpse at the end. It's embarrassing to even think about.
  13. Talk about the ultimate retaliation. You can't possibly believe it was accident, 1-2, 2 outs, up 7 runs. This is just embarrassing. Like kicking us while we're down.
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) Wow. Sean was our most impressive pitcher tonight. Until Sean remembered he's a White Sox pitching prospect.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:07 PM) He was right, sometimes it seems it's more important for people to be right on this site vs. the White Sox winning. Further IMO there was no need for your post just to rub it in his face. Totally not necessary. Again IMO. Yeah, sometimes certain things seem to occur on Soxtalk. That's inevitable with several hundred consistent posters. I could say it "seems" certain posters can't handle criticism of their ballclub. I did mock him. I won't deny it. He could have made his point without sounding like a whining child. Telling us how the website is going in a wrong direction, and he's not going to be a part of it -- like a message board can honestly affect someones like to that extent. I'm sorry if I don't feel sympathy.
  16. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) Where are all of the apologists who assume that everything is going to be just fine, regardless of how badly the Sox are playing? If this is how they respond to adversity, I don't see them overcoming a 6.5 game deficit in 2+ months. I'm leaving Soxtalk until things improve around here. It's too damn negative. The overall discussions withint this website have greatly dominished. In my world, everything will turn out for the better. If you believe otherwise, you're not a real fan!
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:49 PM) Will ESPN have this as their poll tonight "Do the White Sox have the best rotation, minus one inning, in history?"
  18. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) Yes, that's the way I interpreted it too. All I heard was "Wasdin's changeup, best I've ever seen".... It's nowhere close to the best, obviously, but since Hawk seems to work in a "(insert player) has the best (insert talent) I've ever seen" every game, it wouldn't have surprised me.
  19. Did anyone else hear Hawk say Wasdin has the best changeup he's ever seen? LOL.
  20. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) Like the swearing does add to baseball discussion? Interesting perspective. And now he gets Blalock on 3 pitches. It doesn't add or remove from a baseball discussion. If someone is unable to decipher a post which mentions a few words, then it's their problem. I can agree in certain situations it may be unwarranted. Such as single posts which say nothing besides "f.uck," but people often include in within legitimate posts. I'd like to know who's honestly offended? Who asked Jason to adopt language filters? I severly doubt, knowing him, it was his decision.
  21. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 08:32 PM) If we cant beat this Wasdin guy we gots problems. I guess it's called a slump. A slump occuring at the worst possible time. If things don't shape up by this series end, I'm going to seriously begin doubting this teams playoff chances. Honest to Jebus, Minnesota freightens me.
  22. Buehrle, if you think you're going to earn a 4 year, 48-56 million dollar contract you can forget about it. I'm SICK of watching this. Soft-tossing pitchers without control can't exist. And to think, we're drafting people who draw comparisons to him! That's crazy. Our minor leagues needs to begin producing legitimate talent, because I'd rather take chances with an emerging talent than paying him a ridiculous contract.
  23. Several people interested in reading the reason behind the language filters. Just reposting it here: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=52467
  24. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) Please STOP throwing your curveball. You have 4 excellent other pitches that you can use. In addition to this, your curveball flat out sucks, and it seems that every time you throw it, you hang it, and it burns you. So please, start using only your two fastballs, your changeup, and your slider. You should benefit greatly from this. His problems won't end with abandoning the curveball. Instead of rolling curveballs he'll now hang sliders. Nimbling tendencies probably won't end, either.
  25. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) What about Garcia for Latroy Hawkins and Cabrerra, maybe we throw in a prospect of sorts, even a Sean Tracey type. I could buy reasons why the O's do it and reasons why the Sox do it. The Sox may be giving up a bit, but Cabrerra's upside may be worth that. The one thing that concerns me about Hawkins is that his strikeout numbers are ridiculously low (he was always a strikeout guy for as long as I can remember him). Considering how well the American League East has hit Garcia, Baltimore should probably think twice about the prospects of having soft-tossing Freddy give up 5/6 ER every appearance. For an extra incentive to Baltimore, I'm guessing we'd have to depart with Broadway (which I wouldn't mind) or Lumsden (which I would) rather than Tracey. I'm a huge fan of lopsided trade scenarios where Williams gives up nothing and receives everything, but if Orioles initially wouldn't trade Garcia for Cabrera, why would they add Hawkins? He's not pitching well, but not poorly either. It's likely a salary dump. You're right to be concerned about this low strikeout totals. 17K's in 40 IP? Wow. I haven't seen him pitch this season, but perhaps his velocity has decreased? Still, even with his numbers, he'll undoubtedly pitch better than Tracey or Politte. For Cabrera's potential and Garcia's departure I'll accept a season of Hawkins on the side. 4.5 million+ and all.
