Where do you see their salary? I thought Betences would have been a heck of a pickup.
They're at 87 million before arbitration. Probably around 117 after it. Puig and a reliever will get you to 130-135

Bullpen is my choice to tidy up now.
They'll have plenty of money and options if they sign Puig first. There is no issue here.

Difference between the two is that TA is beloved by his team mates and Puig is tolerated at best. Serious rumblings about Puig being as prickly towards his own team as the opposition the last few years.
Would love to see the articles on this accusation

I'm probably one of the few but I enjoy Puig's weird antics...that said, I don't think he's really the best fit with this team.
I enjoy his antics too. Between him and Anderson, teams would hate us haha.

Being against change is one thing. Running around on the baseball field doing the same old shit and plugging your ears is another. None of that's good.
I don't think this is true because he did change his stance in the 2nd half of last season. There was a video on MLBN with it too. He slugged 541 I believe in the 2nd half by quieting his hands, less movement in his stance.

One or two of Stammen/McHugh/Harris/Hudson and I'll be more than happy. Give me Puig too just because I want all the Cubans

I want Craig Stammen and Colin McHugh

There are a lot of assumptions on here about the health of the players. A few of them will surely spend time on the DL, and it’s a lot better to have the depth of actual big leaguers instead of having to use the likes of Skole.
Hit the nail right on the head, fathom. Keep stacking the roster and worry about the rest later. When we had Sale, Q, Eaton, we had superstars, but never the depth. Right now, we have superstars in the making with so much more depth. Let's keep adding and diminish the depth. Plus, I hate trading for relievers and that's what we really need outside of a platoon partner with Mazara.

I would give Castellanos Keuchel's contract. You can never have enough good players.

EE isn't short-sighted if they still give Collins DH ABs vs RHP. It's insurance if Collins sucks and a platoon partner for Collins. It's a 1 year deal. Pay him the $10M and still give Collins the ABs vs RHP in April and May. If Collins sucks, re-evaluate and DH EE full time. If not, continue the platoon.
Also, they can still find ABs for Collins at 1B when Abreu needs a day off.
If they sign EE, Renteria needs to be 100% committed to giving Collins DH duties vs RHP for at least the first 6 weeks of the season.
Couldn't have said it better. Sox struggled hitting HRs last year. EE helps that, along with Collins against righties. There is no risk here. Collins will still get his ABs.

Happ sucks. Would rather have Price

What would you guys trade for just David Price and cash?

Boylen should be fired immediately. Also the refs had to have had money on OKC.
Couldn't of said it better myself.

Trades have risk; the fact that they came out of three mega-deals with as many quality players as they did has a lot of luck involved. The more you do that, the more likely you are going to get some lemons.
They traded Sale because they were rebuilding. Now their pieces are coming together and you want to start over. It's a dumb idea; if I can put it lightly.
Best post in this thread. Bennett and his boys riling up SoxTalk with a moronic idea because they have nothing else to do.

I’ve given this organization the benefit of the doubt for a long time. I’d like to think I am one of the more optimistic posters on this site. But it’s ridiculous. This team has a gaping hole in the pitching department and has done absolutely nothing to address it this offseason. Why are they not signing ANY of the top free agent options? We went from debating about whether guys like Cole, Strasburg or Wheeler are “worth the money” to justifying settling for scrap heaps like Alex Wood and Wade Miley again. What gives? How did we get here?
Again, it's December 13th. Trade for David Price and then sign a 1 year guy. Not that hard. Let's see if they can make it happen.

Damn do I live Lehners honest assessments of this teams overall defense. Is anyone going to start listening to him?
I do too. Basically called out the forwards for not hustling back on offense or in the wrong spots creating odd man rushes. Hawks don't deserve Kane or Lehner.
-
Outside of injury, Price still has been very good. 135, 123, and 113 ERA+ and very respectable FIPs in the AL. I wouldn't mind him at all especially when Kuechel and Ryu might make 18-20 million per year. If we can get Price and 20-25 million per year, sign me up.
I think if the Sox do trade for him, it will be just for him. If they add a kicker like Benintendi, I think Sox might have to part with a decent prospect, but not like Vaughn or Madrigal even though they'll probably ask for them.

I don't think Maryland or Michigan are truly top 5 teams (if they are, this is a down year in college bball), but still, the last two weeks have given me a lot of hope that Illinois can be really good come March. Like, get to the tourney and win a few games good. Kofi just went against two of the best bigs in the league and mostly dominated them. 20 more games to gain experience...
Would be nice of Trent played like Trent again. And if Giorgi and Ayo protected the ball a little more. But overall the defense is sooooo improved. Effort and intensity has changed too. Night and day. That Miami loss may have been a good thing.
Agree with this and in all honestly, Illinois should be 9-1

This is a dumb move, as someone else said I rather have Walker this season in RF than Mazara!
Lol. What's good about an 811 OPS in high A? Laz Rivera did that. Should we have him up this season too?
Some of you are freaking out and it's comical. This is a good upgrade. Better than the shit we've put out the last two years.
-
I'd 100% give up Walker for Mazara. We know Mazara can mash against righties at the ML level. We don't know what Walker is and they are very similar in age.

Guys, Mazara had an OPS of 848 against righties. He mashes them. As long as the return is ok, I'm good with this.
If it's Steele Walker, see ya bro.

I'm with you Fathom. I can see why Collins might not have a fit on the roster, but I still want him DHing against RHP even with Encarnacion. For Kela, I would not give up Collins. I'd give up an A ball player. I don't think Kela would require much in trade.
