  1. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 12:09 PM) It won't happen, but imagine if he came to the Sox and what the rotation would look like afterwards? Sale/Fernandez/Quintana/Rodon/Fulmer Wow. I would imagine we would have to give up Rodon and maybe Fulmer as well in a deal for him.
  2. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 02:01 AM) I'm going to have to scan through this thread tomorrow when I have more time, but I am going to be flying to Arizona sometime in January, and I have no idea what I'm doing. I haven't flown in like 7 years, and I've definitely never flown by myself before. I know I am going to be so stressed out. Anyone got tips for sites to use to find a flight? Or airlines to use/avoid? Orbitz seems to have the best prices. I see I could take Spirit one way, and American/United on the way back, graveyard times, for $99 nonstop. But flying Spirit kind of scares me, as I have heard a lot of bad things. And for a 4 hour flight, I would hate it to be an awful, uncomfortable experience. From basic reviews I've read, it seems SouthWest has the best ratings. But of course, SW flights are 3-4x the price. I want to stay under $200, and non-stop if I can since it's less of a chance I f*** up something at the airport by making a stop. lol. I am kind of in the same boat as you when it comes to flying for the first time in awhile. I have done it twice and not since I was 18 so I am worried about all the damn rules and stress of it all.
  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 11:57 AM) Didn't know we won the WS in 2012. Oh whatever. He doesn't count, he played liked 20 games for us lol.
  4. Well last time we had a Japanese player on our roster we won the World Series. Do it.
  5. I was thinking about this earlier; do the Rockies have to overpay pitchers to get them to come pitch in that awful pitchers park?
  6. I want to actually see if we can develop a hitter so I would rather not trade the best chance we got
  7. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 12:59 AM) Star Wars Episode 1? That was 1999, I was 6 lol. I am not a Star Wars fan and probably have only seen one of the movies but can't remember it at all. It is amazing how much hype and excitement there is for this movie.
  8. How many records is this movie going to break? Has there been another movie with such excitement/hype to it?
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 12:39 AM) Baez is pitiful; why is he worth Miller? He isn't at all. I will believe it when I see it. How do you go from wanting Soler to settling on Baez?
  10. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 12:30 AM) What's easier to obtain - a lineup 1-9 that can get on base, or a lineup which has 3 boppers that can drive in runs with maybe the 1-2 hitters as OBP guys? Depends how much money you got lol. I am just making a point, no team would do what I mentioned but just saying anybody with a good average can knock in a lot of runs if they are in the right spot in the lineup, don't need power to knock in runs
  11. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 12:33 AM) Per Cubs beat Source: Cubs close to deal for Shelby Miller. Braves would get Baez (after talks shifted from Soler). I don't see any of the main guys talking about this. Who is "Cubs beat"
  12. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 12:11 AM) That part I agree with. I don't think your power needs to come from certain defensive positions. I think it needs to come from certain spots in your lineup, however, unless your entire lineup can get on base. Even then, you need someone to drive them in. Anybody that can hit the ball with good average can knock in runs from the four spot IMO.. Imagine how many RBIs Ichiro would have had if he 4th or 5th his entire career? If you have guys who get on base in front of them they don't have to hit home runs just need a hit
  13. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 11:25 PM) I continue to believe it doesn't make sense to target guys based on traditional batting order roles. The most important thing is that a "good hitter" will be added somewhere in the first four slots. Using that logic, Heyward is clearly better, as he adds a left-handed threat (the one LaRoche was supposed to add) and substantially improves the defense at the same time. I agree, I also hate the logic that a 3B or corner OF has to produce power numbers simply because of their position. I understand everyone wants power numbers but I would be perfectly fine with a 3B who can get on base at a good clip.

    2015 TV Thread

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) You could easily watch this season of Homeland with no prior knowledge of other seasons Hell I don't even know what is going on and I still watch lol
  15. I am honestly good with any one of the four OFs. I would prefer Heyward, Upton, Cespedes, Gordon. In that order probably
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 12:56 PM) Appreciate all the feedback. Seems like discussion is up, although we still have to work on the semantics (might be pinning...hot Sox news on the top) to ensure it stays relevant, although overall discussion helps. The fact that you can scroll a page and see all the big news and then choose what you want to discuss / read in more depth is really nice. As I warned people when making the switch, their would be some kinks and we might need to move back, who knows. So far I like what I'm seeing (and the site posting stats/traffic are also looking very nice compared with recent traffic as well as historical trends around the winter meetings). In fact, this weekend saw more traffic than any non-move weekend in recent site history (possibly longer...although I don't remember all the moves to check back..just went back a couple years). If the big reason for the move was to help site traffic then I understand why you did it.
  17. QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) Since the boss is looking for feedback, let me say that I disagree with this. I've been reading the board after not logging in all weekend, and I like having the MLB-wide threads here in PHT. I also like each move getting its own thread; it's just neater and it seems like it facilitates more/better discussion. Question; how hard is it to hit 2 buttons and get to the Diamond Club where all teams are discussed? There is just too much clutter IMO. I go to the Pale Hose Talk section to read and discuss what is going on with the White Sox which is what this site is about. I hate having to go through a bunch of threads about a team signing a player that the White Sox were never linked to, to see if there is anything being talked about regarding the White Sox. If people don't how there are multiple threads about one player then make it clear that all talk about David Price goes in the Diamond Club section with one thread, close all the other threads. I didn't see a problem with how it was and I prefer that but I am just one man with one opinion.
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 11:48 PM) It's a sad state of affairs, but while the picks are incredibly valuable, how confident are we in the Sox to develop that talent? That isn't a pass for the Sox in anyway, but if we are just going on what the club has shown us the last 15+ years, do we feel confident that the Sox will draft and develop a 3.5 WAR type player with the 35th pick in the draft, specifically on offense? I don't. I like the idea of Upton. His age is very attractive, and I don't see a huge drop of in numbers at least for the first 3 years of the deal. Pitcher- 45% Hitter- 5%
  19. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 11:33 PM) I get not wanting to lose the draft pick, as that would be a downer. But the Sox want to try to utilize their window during the current primes of Abreu and Sale and Quintana. These guys are amazing RIGHT NOW. They may be peaking now and not be as good 4 years from now when that 2016 draft pick would be contributing to the team. Upton was a 3.6 WAR player in a huge pitcher's park. He was a 4 WAR player in 2014, and he has been a 6 WAR player in the past. This dude just turned 28 a few months ago. He has probably 3 or 4 more years of really quality baseball left in him. Sluggers don't typically hit the market at age 28. Fangraphs crowdsourced him at 6 yrs/$120M. That's fair value for a 3-4 WAR player. And remember, whatever amount of years you would want to give a player, add another year if he's a FA. If the Sox sign him, expect it for 6/$120-125M or even 7 yrs/$135 or something with that 7th year being an option. I agree with you sir. It is a comp pick that we just got a few days ago, are people that attached to it? I would much rather have the 28 year old who hit 15 of his 26 home runs in one of the best pitcher's park. I hope we get him
  20. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:53 PM) Based on what? His lofty .709 OPS? And Trayce and his .850 OPS and impeccable D is a 4th OF, while the declining Melky and his .709 OPS and clownish defense and play is a keeper. I realize Tracy's OPS isn't sustainable, but I'll take a chance that he can at least equal Melky's .709. I have no doubt that at least 1 of Trayce, Erik J or Micah J get traded for a decliner or for some career year that Williams is fawning over. It wouldn't surprise me if they trade all 3. I'm okay with signing Upton, IF they clear out the riff raff. And if it's an alternative to trading for another Williams rent-a-career-year, I'm all over it. Now I have no idea but how many players on the Royals or Mets had an OPS of .709 or lower (looked them up, stats below)? Not every player in a lineup for a playoff team is going to be good or great. I think Melky can be a role player and I expect him to be better next year. He has been here one year and he had an average year. He had a pretty bad start to the year (first two months OPS .557) and he was able to get that up to end the year at .709. Salvador Perez OPS- .706 Alcides Escobar OPS- .614 Alex Rios OPS- .640 Ruben Tejada OPS- .688 Wilmer Flores OPS- .703 Eric Campbell OPS- .607 Michael Cuddyer OPS- .699 Ruben Tejada OPS- .688 You can have good role players in that range that will help you win. Melky also had more RBI's and higher average then any of those players mentioned above. He is valuable.
  21. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) I'm really not down on him and much prefer to keep Melky's bat and DH him. Thompson brings much better defensive onto the field, speed and potentially more power than Melky too. The problem is LaRoche isn't going anywhere since its not likely any team is crazy enough to take on his 13M salary so the SOX would have to use him as a bench bat, which doesn't seem likely given his salary. That's why I said trade Melky/Avi. I think losing Melky hurts this team more then trading LaRoche and eating half or more of his salary. In reality Thompson will probably be the 4th OF
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) I doubt there's any takers on LaRoche, its likely he's the DH/1B with Abreu next season. If possible, trade Avi and Melky both ( easier said than done) and roll with Eaton in LF, Thompson in CF, Heyward/Upton in RF and Shuck is the 4th outfielder. I'm not sure why people are so down on Melky. I think he is a piece that we should keep. His offense is better then what Thompson or LaRoche will offer
