  1. I only caught the first 6 innings last night before I left to go watch the Twolves smack around the Suns with buddies, but I enjoyed Apple TV broadcast. They have cool camera angles and outside of the on field reporter, the announcers were solid and seemed to have decent knowledge of the 3-22 white sox. Honestly, better than listening to Schriffen try to get us excited over a fly out that doesn’t make it to the warning track.

I get tired of the "he won't be on the next good team" complaint. They have to play the games on the schedule. I'm not sure how putting a first year rookie back at AAA to work on things is "panicking". This team is not going to be a 20-140 team. Once they stabilize, win a couple of games, and they're not a daily national news story, maybe then Sosa, Fletcher and Colas will get a full 2-3 month shot to see if they stick.

    What does Rafael Ortega accomplish?

He inherited a historically bad major league team with a bad farm system, a historically cheap owner and 2 valuable assets - Cease and Robert. What's he supposed to do?

Let pieces of the future play, along with some vets, rather than a team full of 30+ scrubs that have no future with the org. Its stupid. And that is coming from one of the more positive posters around here.

I wonder if Horn will clear waivers…he’s looked like s%*# this season,  but he’s mid 20s and looked decent at AA last season.  He’s never been this bad before so “flushing it” this early into the season…doesnt seem smart.

I would bet that he does not clear waivers.

  5. I expected Fletcher to get bounced, but really hoped I'd be wrong.

The Ortega moves makes no sense.  And I know Horn has been terrible, but how'd he go before Justin Anderson?  I truly have no fucking clue what Getz vision is here.

But it was never clear exactly where he was going to play with Moncada struggling so much at second base in 2018.  Anderson was clearly the SS.

They weren’t going to give up on Moncada…IMO, without Yoan on the roster, though, they almost would have had to sign Manny OR Harper in order to convince fans the rebuild was actually real, or happening.  Like the Cubs with Lester.

But the brain trust still thought Moncada was going to be a superstar, and he was, for that ONE season in 2019.

Moncada would have stayed at 2B, or Machado plays SS, TA moves to 2B and Moncada 3B.  Its a good problem to have.  That was not the reason Machado didn't sign with the Sox.

Moncada-Machado-Anderson would have been the best set up in the short term.

Machado has maintained all along he wanted to play together with his fellow countryman Tatis and was never all that serious about joining the White Sox…and that he was perfectly happy to play 3B instead of SS.

Yeah, I mean that’s why he played that next season with a fresh black and grey glove and posted a picture of his kid all decked out in Sox gear a few days before he signed with the Padres. Machado to Sox was nearly done. He wanted more money tho, and Padres came in last minute and met the ask and Sox thought it was a bluff. Of course Machado will say those things after the fact.

FWIW - I am not defending the Sox here. They totally fucked the Machado situation, and then spent that $50M on ridiculous things the next 2 seasons. To me, missing on Machado and Harper was where things began to go wrong. But really, the main reason things have gone wrong is lack of health and development from the once elite prospects.

The Sox failures begin with trading Tatis Jr. for Shields.  It's possibly the worst trade in the history of MLB, and I don't know why people aren't still screaming over it.

Shields was 16-35 with a 5.31 ERA in 2.5 seasons with the Sox.  How much better are the 2021 White Sox with an MVP candidate at SS and Anderson playing 2B when he was still good at baseball?

Machado signed with San Diego to play with Tatis.  You telling me he wouldn't have signed to play with him in Chicago if there was a similar deal in place?

They could have been set.  Instead they traded a 17 year old who had MVP level upside for a guy who was done and had just given up a HR to Bartolo Colon so that he could pitch out the season for a team that finished 78-84.

It cost them a decade of relevance outside of 1 playoff win in 2021.

While that trade was terrible, Tatis wasn't even the main part of the deal.  The Padres mostly just got really lucky (and the Sox unlucky).

But the bolded part is just flat wrong.  Machado signed with the Padres over the Sox because they paid him $50 more. Its really that simple.  It had nothing to do with Tatis.

Chris Getz to speak with the media before today's game 👀

GMs speak with the media at the beginning of most homestands.  Since our beat writers are a bunch on wimps, it'll be a series of softball questions.

The real decision making hasn't happened yet.  He's just doing damage control until some of these awful contracts are off the books and he has some money to spend.

The only truly awful contract is Benintendi, and unfortunately that is going to around for another 3.8 seasons.  I guess you could lump Moncada in there, but none of the other contract are really all that bad.

Let’s be completely honest.  Benintendi is the least useful of the bunch. The guy can’t get to balls with an 80-90% expected catch rate, is airmailing cutoff men, throwing to the wrong base, and even when he gets the right base needs a cutoff guy to get it from left to second.  Also you know…the whole batting .167 thing.  Unfortunately we all know that it’ll never happen since he’s the largest FA contract in franchise history.  Pillar will go down for Pham.  I doubt we see Colas at the MLB level ever again and they won’t call up any other young guys unless there’s an injury, they manage to dump someone at the deadline (not likely), or when rosters expand because Getz is not willing to admit that nearly every offseason acquisition was almost a complete miss.

Regarding the bolded. I HIGHLY doubt that is the case.  Its obvious he's no favorite, but he'll absolutely get another chance.

Remember there were posters here who actually believed this team is going to be better than expected before the season? I wonder how they feel now.

TBF, not many people expected this level of suck.  They also wouldn't be quite so terrible had Robert, Moncada and Eloy not gotten hurt the first week.  Its fair to expect those guys to miss time throughout the season, but all right away?  Even the naysayiest of naysayers wouldn't have honestly guessed that while being serious.

I expected this team to float a few to several games below ,500 for awhile, at least pre-Cease trade.  I expected improved defense and cleaner baseball. I hoped Robert's 2023 health would continue into 24, and we'd see a really nice contract year from Yoan.  Obviously non of that has happened, but I don't think many people pre-season truly expected this to be an historically poor club.

Well, sending Fletcher down and DFAing Leone would mean they could call up a reliever on the 40-man. That's the angle I was going for. Unless a guy like Clevinger could make a start tomorrow but I have not followed him at all.

Wouldn't Pham be taking Leone's 40 man spot in that scenario?   I believe Clevinger in starting in AAA this weekend (maybe even today).
