On beni I would just waive him and see if anybody bites. but not even ten year old OOTP AI is dumb enough to put a claim in with that much dead money left. The best we would be able to do is take on another bad contract. You just know JR doesn't want to hear that and Getz won't do it.

I dunno, it's not like we're loaded with top OF prospects so you just gotta keep trotting him out there. With the Pham "addition" (funny how 40 man concerns don't exist when it is to sign bargain barrel 1 WAR vets) Vaughn is the obvious candidate to lose playing time imo.  Send Vaughn to AAA and just let him try and have a "come to jesus" type swing adjustment and attitude refresh. Dude never is having fun out there, he needs to find something and it's not likely to happen at the MLB level right now. It's not like he'd take a pay cut so he might even welcome it.

The Sox have paid $11-12M of Benis $75M to this point. There is no chance they have waive him yet, nor should they frankly.

Here's the thing.  Mendick is not on the 40.  We already have 2 40 man moves in coming with Clevinger and Pham.  That would mean we need to figure out a 3rd guy to boot.

Clevinger is on the 40 man. Pham, Pillar and Grossman can’t all be on the 26 man along with Fletcher and Benintendi, so one has to go. Justin Anderson and Remillard should be easy DFAs (tho likely needed in Charlotte) and can still put Davis Martin on the MLB 60 day. So there are some options without even getting into guys like Leone and Flexen and guys playing their way that direction in Soroka and Sosa.

I think they already know the season is toast and are just going through the motions. They'll pick up a few weeks before the trade deadline in the hopes of leaving the Titanic.

These guys are literally all playing for their careers. I don’t think anyone is just “going through the motions”. They just aren’t any good.

Who thinks batting Eloy second last night was a good move by Grifool?

I mean he's not hitting a lick .095 to be exact, chases balls outside the strike zone, doesn't know how to move runners over and he has no baseball IQ when it comes to running the bases.

Eloy is a pinch hitter at this point until he proves otherwise.

I don’t think Eloy should bat 2nd, but he’s the best hitter on this current team by a country mile. He should absolutely play everyday he is able. I would bat him 3rd and just leave him there until Robert is back.

    That Mena trade looks awful.

It’s a SSS, but Menas era is so far is pretty misleading. Nearing a 1.4 whip and walking a batter in 65% of your innings pitched terribly sustainable for success. Mena may become a serviceable back end SP, but I think it was a fine gamble and do think Fletcher will be solid piece for the Sox.

I didn't see the Fletcher play, but the winds are BRUTAL and gusty today.  Typically when that happens at this park the winds above circle the opposite direction below the upper deck level.  The balls in the air will go up at one angle, and then when they catch the lower jet stream, they suddenly move back the opposite way.  You really see it on IF pop ups and high fouls behind home plate.  Players will start running one way, and then all of the sudden have to break the opposite direction almost at the very end.

    He just slipped and fell.

  7. Assuming cousin goes unclaimed on waivers, I wonder if he is able to be assigned back to the minors. It was obvious that his contract required him to be added to the 40 man this past off-season, but one would think it had similar language if this scenario were to have played out.

If anything, he should have been worth like 7-10 million on a one year deal

Well, now that he's here, hopefully he comes in and whips some of these fools into shape, rakes and then we trade him for someone interesting to plug in for a 2 month tryout in August/September.

As it stands right now, Bryan Shaw's $1.5 million is the only "wasted" money. And they did give the young guys enough time in the minors to get that extra year of control you so wanted. Who cares if they were going to give Nastrini and Cannon their shot early or not? You act like you stumbled upon Nixon's Watergate tapes.

Shaw made $1.5M? Wasn’t an an milb deal?

Still wish he was our 1B (position change of course) over Vaughn

Ehh. I'd still roll with the AV, but he's certainly earned the skepticism lately.

I’d like to see them oromote Jirscele and let him grow into the job. JR isn’t going to pay for a top manager. So let Jirschel manage. Let him make mistakes when it doesn’t matter. See if he becomes  a good manager, instead of waiting until the team may be relevant and hiring a guy like Pedro who aces interviews but sucks when it’s time to do the job.

This.  s%*# can Pedro.  Promote Jirschele to manager.
