  1. Jake had his second start on Jun 28. Not nearly as successful has his first. 4 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 SO. Still, not awful, and the potential is there considering the 8 SO in his debut.
  2. Phegley and Rienzo selected to represent the Sox in the Futures Game. You can also vote in Hawkins. MLB.com
  3. In today's edition of Better Know a Prospect, I present Fightin' Jacob (Jake) Sanchez. Sanchez recently made his way to the White Sox organization from the Joliet Slammers of the independent Frontier League. Position: P Birthdate: Aug 19, 1989 Hometown: Brawley, CA Bats/Throws: R/R Height: 6-1 Weight: 205 lbs Pitched at Iowa Wesleyan College (NAIA Division II) for two years after transferring from Imperial Valley Community College. He has no scouting reports that I can find. Sanchez was the Midwest Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2012. Sanchez finished the 2012 Iowa Wesleyan season with a 10-2 record and a 2.42 earned run average, including 111 strikeouts, 12 walks, 71 hits allowed and 28 runs allowed (25 earned) in 93 innings pitched. He led the MCC in strikeouts and innings pitched, was second in wins and third in earned run average and opponents' batting average (.208). Sanchez obliterated the Iowa Wesleyan single season strikeout record, becoming the first player in school history to go over 100 K's in a season, and also tied the school record for wins in a season. He also was a recipient of a Gold Glove award with one error in 29 chances in the field. Sanchez had a very impressive rookie season for the Slammers. In 11 starts he posted a 5-2 record with a 2.89 ERA. Sanchez struck out 45 batters and walked only 15. The right-hander went at least six innings in eight of his 11 starts. Before being signed by the White Sox this season Sanchez was 0-2 with a 2.36 ERA in 26.2 IP with 29 SO to 6 BB. He debuted with the Great Falls Voyagers on June 23, with 6 IP 3 ER 8 SO and 0 BB.
  4. According to baseball-ref Reed is being paid $520,000. Thornton is being paid $5.5 million. I would much rather try to unload Thornton at the trade deadline for some prospects (replace him with Webb etc.), free up some money for a FA signing now or in the offseason, and keep Reed for the pittance of a salary he currently earns. Reed has been great, he's fun to watch (#TWTW), and he's cheap.
  5. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 09:46 AM) LOL ok, ok probably the right response. Trying to provide some specifics because its pretty much agreed-upon that Crain is going to go. Looking for some 3B/SS prospects, with Alexei playing like a bag of doorknobs and the hot corner currently not looking so hot.
  6. Unless Crain suffers a devastating breakdown/injury he will likely be traded. I'd like to see us get at least a near-ready prospect and another with a couple years to go. Maybe a trade with the Red Sox for Xander Bogaerts and Garin Cecchini?
  7. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) Right now I'd like to see more fire out of Robin; show us, show his team that he's as pissed off as we are. This. One of Robin's great traits is his levelheadedness. He's consistent, and the players can depend on him to treat them like adults and not scream at them for every mistake. That being said, the defense is on the level of a little league team. I liked what he was doing earlier in the season with early fielding practice before games. He should make it clear the amount of errors is unacceptable.
  8. QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) Also, welcome to SoxTalk! Thanks! glad to be here
  9. If you include the Caribbean with the Netherlands (Netherlands Antilles), I think that's a somewhat untapped market that's shown stars in the past (Andruw Jones, Jurickson Profar). As for 10~20 years down the road I think you have to be looking at China. Per wikipedia they went into an agreement with Japanese baseball in 2007 for training, and I think statistically there have to be some excellent athletes there.
