Wow, so a little worse in 1 run games, but much better in close games decided by 2-5 runs. This year's record looks propped up by a 10-2 record in blowouts all the more now.
I hate putting someone that slow in the 2 hole, but maybe the heart of the order can drive those walks in. It's not like we are getting great production there to begin with.
Turning the lineup over is a fair point that I hadn't considered in my post. I suppose there is value in those walks if it brings the the top of the order up faster.
Basically this. He had a fantastic first half one year here and then was pretty meh after. Other than his chemistry with Giolito I don't think the team is missing much of anything with him playing elsewhere, and I say that as a huge fan of his time in a Sox uniform.
I would be really curious to know how many of those walks end up as the 1st out of a double play or ended up as one more man left on base. His walks aren't outs, but they often feel more like empty calories instead of quality offensive contributions.
