I didn't realize how many good defensive plays Abreu has had this season.

Chris Sale
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 05:25 PM) Go look at their numbers this year. There is absolutely no way you can make a case that Sale is more deserving than Felix. Both advanced and regular stats agree on this one, he's been ridiculous. The other guys are earning it too. I retract the "maybe Felix" part. But Sale's definitely more deserving than Price and Lester. It's pretty close with Kazmir.

Chris Sale
How are all of these pitchers more deserving than Sale? I think he'd be a better pick than Lester, Kazmir, Richards, and Price. Maybe Felix, too.

Chris Sale
The Bleacher Report list also left Sale off (but included Abreu and Alexei [ESPN predicts Abreu won't make it]), so I was about to write a "Sale should be here" comment. Then I looked at the top three comments, all of which called for Sale's inclusion and talked about how underrated he is. These were non-Sox fans, too.

Halos @ White Sox Start Time 10 Min Ago
It came down to management, I guess. Leaving Danks in and having a righty face our lefties.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 07:36 PM) I hate Hawk's "If you just get 15 bunt hits a year, that will add 30 points to your average." saying. Because that assumes that all 15 of those bunt singles would have been outs if the guy had just swung normally. It would really add about 22 points per 650 at-bats. And that's true, 2-6 of them would likely be hits.

Jose Abreu general discussion
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 10:25 PM) It's great to watch, but bittersweet with the offense around him. I had Abreu with 26 homers in 140 games this year. He has 25 homers in 66 starts. After the season, I want to take a look at that "Expectations: Jose Abreu" thread I made and just laugh at all of the "27/85"ish replies (I admit I was one of them).

In Charlotte, Davidson is hitting .196 with 13 HR and 27 RBI. Last year he was .280/17/74... wow. I knew he was struggling but I didn't know it was this bad.

Jose Abreu general discussion
Earlier in the season, all of the Abreu comments here were "I can't wait until he hits in warm weather". I was one of these people. Is it me or is he keeping the same pace as April/beginning of May?

Surkamp called up, Scott Downs DFA'd
WHITE SOX DESIGNATE SCOTT DOWNS FOR ASSIGNMENT; RECALL ERIC SURKAMP FROM CLASS AAA CHARLOTTE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, June 26, 2014 TORONTO – Prior to tonight’s game at Toronto, the Chicago White Sox designated left-handed pitcher Scott Downs for assignment and recalled left-hander Eric Surkamp from Class AAA Charlotte. Surkamp, 26, has gone 3-4 with a 4.54 ERA (37 ER/73.1 IP) and 84 strikeouts in 14 games (11 starts) with Charlotte this season, his first in the White Sox organization after being claimed off waivers from San Francisco on December 23, 2013. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Surkamp leads the International League in strikeouts and has averaged 11.6 per 9.0 IP over his last four starts (31 SO/24.0 IP), including a season-high 12 on May 30 at Toledo. He was named International League Pitcher of the Week for June 16-22 after going 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA (1 ER/14.0 IP) and 15 strikeouts in two starts. Surkamp is 2-3 with a 7.36 ERA (24 ER/29.1 IP) in seven starts over two major-league seasons with the Giants (2011, ’13). Downs, 38, went 0-2 with a 6.08 ERA (16 ER/23.2 IP), 15 walks and 22 strikeouts in 38 games this season, his first with the Sox after agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with a club option for 2015 on January 2, 2014.

Surkamp called up, Scott Downs DFA'd
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 12:01 AM) Hmm. His peripherals weren't awful, his sky-high ERA was due to a ton of his baserunners allowed ending up scoring, but yeah, hard to shed too many tears with that walk rate. Strange though because all the lefty relievers in Charlotte have control problems too, unless they bring up Surkamp, which is my tentative guess right now. Loving the new avatar, Feeky
