I'll be happy with one or the other but please not both. It would make sense if the Sox budget was closer to the luxury tax threshold but the reality is the team has never gone above 128M. I'm not saying JR would not approve, just not counting on it. Signing both would bring the payroll to 150M+. Might not be a bad idea to have a few bucks stashed away for when it comes time to try and lock up some of the core talent. Would also be nice to have some wiggle room for future free agents to fill holes later.

Yep. The kid had alot going on last year with being such a highly touted drafted, long college season that lead to another championship and dealt with an injury. To judge him based on his first few months of pro ball would be foolish.

His hit tool and his defensive ability at second base are why he will move quickly.

As far as I know the idea originated here at Soxtalk just before the draft when it became more clear the Sox would likely draft Madrigal. It wasn't until recently the Sox have said they would be willing to move Moncada to third. The idea of moving Moncada to third goes against the idea of signing Machado. They are not in the least bit related.

The idea of Moncada moving to third was floated around for when Madrigal is ready. Had nothing to do with Machado.

There's been a handful of us with that exact approach. I don't know where and when Machado/Harper sign but I'm enjoying reading the rumors but taking them all equally with a grain of salt. I prefer to read about the Sox being in on these guys than reading about why they are not in.

For me Frazier gets a pass. The second half of his 2015 season was a huge red flag that many fans and the Sox FO ignored. For me this one is on the FO.

I'd rather pay Jay, whom can play all three OF positions, than pay Avi to play RF when he's occasionally healthy. With the Sox payroll as low as it is it's just silly to complain about spending 4M on Jay. That 4M has literally zero impact on the payroll this year.

And the Sox would still be the second team in that city. Taipei's little league team rocks!
