This is why I'm pessimistic about the Sox chances of landing one of Harper/Machado. Hope I'm wrong but I've been suspecting these guys would take less money to play for a legit contender. The White Sox are an ugly top tier free agent destination right now.

I would only be embarrassed if the White Sox weren't doing all they can to land Machado. Much better than sitting around complaining about how the Sox are not making an effort.

Acquiring players like Alonso and Jay show the Sox know they arent the sexiest destination for free agents so they are doing whatever it takes.
