  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 01:56 AM) Yeah, they're going to press for two year deals with options (club/mutual) for that third year in all likelihood. It might work for Parra, but Austin Jackson probably wants to rebuild his value with a one-year deal. That's their "cheap" route, you go with an outfield of Cain/Parra/Dyson and Orlando as the 4th. Then you take the rest of that money and put it into one more starting pitcher (probably a lefty unless Duffy stays in the rotation to go with Tim Collins coming back from surgery) and/or wait on Ian Desmond or Fowler to fall into your hands after the first month of the season. Then you can add pitching at the trade deadline again. Kazmir, Chen and Gallardo are that next tier of pitching available...in all likelihood too expensive. Maybe that makes Jackson more enticing to KC? A one year stop-gap perhaps. I had not thought of it that way but from KC's POV maybe Jackson on a one year makes alot of sense. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) There is still a part of me that is surprised the White Sox didn't end up with Bruce in a larger Cincy deal. Proof that Hahn and not KW is running this off season. Seriously, I kinda thought the same thing since Bruce plays RF and is a left handed power bat. I'm glad the Sox didn't though. I was really surprised with the Frazier deal because for some reason I thought for sure Ethier was heading to the Sox. Sometimes those gut feelings are really just full of s***.
  2. Lemmy Kilmister is no longer with us. Thank you Lemmy for all that you did for metal and the fans. http://edition.cnn.com/2015/12/28/entertai...motrhead-death/
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) Did you actually read the article? He suggested those guys above could have their value reduced to some extent due to the comps picked attached, which would benefit the Sox because their first round pick is protected. His article was well written and made a ton of sense. Not sure how anyone could actually read it and call the author a moron. The SOX payroll including committed contracts/arbitration players/league minimum players is at about 119M. Now add in the cost all those players Petriello suggests and get back to me. The guy knows nothing about the Sox front office or the Sox finances.
  4. SP Wei-Yin Chen SP Yovani Gallardo SP Ian Kennedy 1B Chris Davis 2B Howie Kendrick SS Ian Desmond LF Alex Gordon LF Justin Upton CF Dexter Fowler Uh, ya. Because the Sox have that kind of money to throw around. Petriello has no clue of what he's talking about and really makes himself out to be a complete moron with this horrible write-up. I see far better ideas by the good Sox fans of this board. Petriello must be talking fantasy baseball or something.
  5. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 01:05 AM) Mos def. God I hope he tears up AA and Anderson tears up AAA...AND Saladino cements himself as our SS for the next 5-8 years. Would love to be able to use Anderson to get our catcher of the future. I'm with ya on hopes of these guys tearing it up next year and dont forget about little Jacob May, but ya lost me with Anderson. Even if Saladino were to cement himself as the SS of the future, I think Anderson has the speed and arm to become a good outfielder if given time and patience. I haven't looked around at young catchers so I really don't know much about who's out there but I would be hesitant on trading a talent like Anderson for a catcher.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:53 AM) Bruce fits their time frame perfectly, the next two years...but so do CarGo, Ethier/Crawford, Dickerson or Blackmon, etc. It's a buyer's market right now, at least in terms of outfielders. If I'm KC, I am not even looking at it like a two year deal...it's one year for $12.5 million and the $1 million buyout...because Bruce has fluctuated up and down so much the last five years. I'm also not parting with one of my top five prospects, let alone 2-3 prospects unless they're all lower tier guys. The Reds basically have ZERO purpose or rationale to keep Bruce and Phillips at this point...the falloff in attendance already started happening with Cueto, Leake and Frazier, etc. And they do still have Votto, he's going to be the only homegrown star left, like Freeman in ATL. Otherwise, I'm just going to pay Span/Jackson/Parra and not lose a draft pick, preserving the remainders of the farm system (after the Cueto and Zobrist deals) for the rebuild beginning in 2018. Pretty much agree with all this. Can't see there being a big market for Bruce so if Jocketty drops his price to something reasonable I think KC goes for it. If KC is to give up top prospects they will certainly do better than Bruce. If KC goes the FA route I think Parra makes the most sense and fits the mold of what they look for in their players. I think KC's interest in Parra is genuine and likely comes down to the amount of years Parra is looking for. KC doesn't strike me as the type to go more than three years for Parra but I could be wrong.
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:31 AM) Either that, or a smoke screen to get Gordon to accept the KC offer. I definitely think that's part of it. With so many outfielders available its easy for teams to play the bluff game. Caulfield. I can see KC having genuinely interest in Bruce due to his power, salary and limited commitment of two years but I doubt KC would give Jocketty two of their three top prospects. Of course Jocketty is aiming high like he should but how big of a market is there for Bruce? Jocketty has to come down in price if he seriously wants to move Bruce.
  8. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 12:15 AM) Too many village idiots in a town and it's not a very appealing place to be. There shall only be one regularly retarded drooling fool around these corners... And I shall always wear the dunce cap with pride. To infanity, and beyond. That's awesome man. Are you you in need of a side-kick? I have reference's...
  9. Ya, let's see how Engel handles moving up to AA before we get too excited. Engel is definitely a player to take the wait and see approach with.
  10. http://www.chatsports.com/kansas-city-roya...ex-gordon-25312 "The Royals need a left-handed-hitting outfielder to replace Alex Gordon, who looks like he will price himself out of Kansas City. Further, the Royals currently have Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando penciled in right field and left field, which suggests they will make an upgrade in at least one of those spots. Enter Bruce, an already-proven commodity who could hit in the middle of the Royals' lineup and provide power to a mostly contact-oriented lineup. Also, Bruce comes with a reasonable salary of $12.5 million for this season plus a $13 million club option for 2017." I've been wondering if there was a market for Bruce, looks like its at least possible there is. Not sure the level of interest KC actually has but its an interesting read and could provide some hope for those Sox fans interested in signing Gordon.
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 09:35 PM) You may be an old man but you are young in the way. Let's stop hijacking this thread and allow the crickets to resume. Deal? Thank you sir. Really, I'm just middle aged and extremely young at heart. Any hootenanny, crickets, the thread is yours. Hi8is and I now return you to your regularly scheduled dead-zone in FA rumors... Though I'm not a fan of spending the kind of money the big three are seeking, there is no way I would give Cespedes the 6 years he wants. I don't think Gordon's health or defense will hold up for the 5 years he seeks, just my opinion. Which brings me to Upton, not Kate, Justin. If I had to chose one of the three I guess it would be Upton (Justin) due to his mix of youth, power and speed. The potential for a deal including an opt-out is enticing and I see it as motivation for the player to hopefully excel performance wise so they can hit that pay dirt again when eligible. If the Sox are destined to sign one of the three, please let it be Upton (Justin). Thank you for taking the time to read my confused mind.
  12. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) You've got to be quick, subtle, and unexpected in your wit young ninja grasshopper. The path of the way is yours. Whoa, thanks for the young comment. I don't feel so old now. Looks at wifey and says " hurry honey, fetches me Juss fer Men! Be gone grey whiskas!"
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) Hahn was very determined to get Frazier. Literally took him a month and a half to get him, but he found a way. Just goes to show how long negotiations can take and that fans need patience. There's a few folks on here that remind me of Butters or Tweak from South Park with how anxious they are.
  14. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) FWIW, Mark Sheldon (Reds Beat Writer) said that the Reds/Yankees talks started on Christmas Eve & completed today. Worth noting the timeline, especially if the Sox just made Gordon an offer today. This is a great point. IIRC, Hahn had been talking to the Reds about the Sox interest in Frazier sometime around seasons end or just after. Look how long that took.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 06:43 PM) I've come to the conclusion that you're my favorite member on this forum. Not only are you knowledgable about the Sox, but you're also witty and extremely funny. Keep up the good work. Awe shucks Mike, hopefully I can continue to live up to your extremely low expectations. I can only hope that you have better taste when it comes to love than you do Sox fans. Seriously though, I do enjoy talking Baseball with you and I especially respect and appreciate the way you come across when you do not agree with something I say. You are my Ferris Bueller here on SoxTalk, a righteous dude. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 07:52 PM) One can only hope. I see that rabbit is reading the insanity... Hopefully he'll have some more info to drop. If anyone else question his awesomeness - "blah" will not be the response. Super deathly ninja skills will however, be unleashed with deadly furry. Boston has the Kung Fu Panda and SoxTalk has the Kung Fu raBBit! And to you sir, I say good BLAH! ( Wilmer Valderrama style!)
  16. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 05:47 PM) Where have you been for so long, my long lost brother? Indeed I am your long lost brother, in both sarcasm and Sox fandom.
  17. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) And yet, at the suggestion that the Sox do something like that, people squawk to high heaven and demand trading young players for "proven veterans". And, of couse, Kenny Williams obliged. (thankfully Hahn negotiates the deals once the proven veteran is identified). McCutchen is a better player than anyone on the Sox, and is an absolute star, so they better be careful about trading him. Despite what people may think, its JR that wants a winner and prevents the Sox from rebuilding, not KW. If I owned the Sox and was almost 80, I'd probably do the same. The owner of the Pirates is Robert Nutting who is only 53 so he has had plenty of time and many losing years to accumulate the sustainable talent they now have to build a perennial contender. The age disparity between the owners is why their approach to building the organizations is so different. I'm not the biggest KW fan but he takes more s*** with regards to the direction of the team than he deserves. As for McCutchen, the FA market next winter will be absolute s*** and will drive up McCutchen's trade value. As long as McCutchen stays healthy, hits and fields his position in '16, the Pirates will be sitting on a gold mine and imo will cash in and get a huge haul.
  18. This is pretty interesting. For me, I definitely take Seager over Buxton but not by much. As for the pitchers I would have a tough time choosing between Glasnow and Snell with Giolito behind them.
  19. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) I've been banished from writing anything other that the following words: acrimony, brusque, caustic, disheveled, equivocate, and fiasco. It's been impossible to do so thus far... So, f*** it - I'll Just break the rules and state the obvious... Blah blah blah f***ing blah. The Gestapo is marching your way to lock you up and throw away the key to your Chastity belt. Das knickers shalt forever remain twisted. No more taco flavored kisses for you!
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) Or back to minors like Avi potentially...appears they don't have enough with Span gone to get by with two big question marks. Need some more certainty/predictability in CF. Makes sense. I'd take Taylor off their hands for a 4th outfielder.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) LMAO. I love you. Oh stop it, you're just saying that!
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) What about her cousin, Peenkay Tang? She was impressive in The Interview dancing with fake Kim Jong Il (2nd reference today). Never seen The Interview but I'd certainly lay my Wang on Tang anytime.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) I agree, getting something done on Christmas would have shown huge stones, and would have been cold blooded. Doing the same move any other date is just.....blah. Uh oh, now you've done it! Cue Hi8is in 3,2,1....
  24. Even the non-funny comments in this thread are funny! Talk about un-realistic expectations!
  25. Damn! Betances, Miller and Chapman is going to be NASTY!
