  1. The idea behind hanging on to Dunn and trading him is this, If there was a suitor for Dunn he would most likely be gone already. Paying Dunn to stay off the team or to play for another is just dumb. The point behind playing Dunn is that you hope he plays well enough for a team to be interested in trading for him while taking on his salary. Its not about the potential return because we can all agree Dunn won't bring anything back worth hollering about. Its the best way to get rid of Dunn's contract but he has to play in order to make himself intriguing enough for a team to be willing to trade for him. Besides all that, its just bad business to flat out dump a high salary player if you ever want to sign a FA again in the future. As bad as Dunn has been he's not nearly the bust that Vernon Wells has been ( just showing it could be worse). If we have to sit through one more season of Dunn then so be it, but at least he will be playing which opens the door of potentially trading him. Again, I must say the idea of holding onto and trading Dunn is NOT about trying maximize the return. Its about finding a suitor.
  2. I would be fine with Ackley or Franklin, problem is we don't have a position open for either one. Doesn't matter if we trade Viciedo or ADA, the one left will play LF so there's no room. Would love to see Ackley or Franklin at 2B but then we have to find a team willing to trade for Bekham. Maybe this isn't such a match for the Sox.
  3. Love this part of the quote. "I'm working really hard to get my weight back." Sounds like you already have dude! I know what he meant, just funny he way he worded it. I doubt the Sox would be interested in Montero anyway but Ackley and Franklin are possibilities if Seattle were interested in ADA.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 09:05 PM) Maybe there's a brand called 'Inconsistent' " has been" or "never was".
  5. Things could be looking up for a possible trade. "Mariners talks with Nelson Cruz "on hold", team prioritizing other areas" http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2014/2/13/5409...ing-other-areas
  6. While were on the subject of Dunn, anyone think Dunn can break out in the sense of putting up respectable numbers in '14? If he table setters do well at the top of the order Dunn should see better pitches and COULD hit better as a result. Not counting on it but it could happen.
  7. There is no discussion on those pitchers if there aren't any responses when those pitchers names are brought up. Just saying. I think Eaton and Avi both break out for the Sox offensively. I have no idea what to expect from Abreu so I patiently wait. I think Davidson will hit well at Charlotte while waiting for a roster spot to open.
  8. I watched some videos on Delgado and I admit I like what I had seen. Fastball has decent sink with a little velocity and a pretty good change. I really didn't see any curve balls thrown though. I know AZ wants to keep him but after watching more videos on him I would take him depending on what it would cost the Sox. I doubt the Sox would give up anything AZ would want.
  9. The Sox have had ALOT more work to do than the Cards so the Sox should rate higher but whatever. At least they got some good credit for their moves so far.
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) Thought I remember reading that they want to hold onto Delgado and stick him in their pen. I read at MLBTR that Towers wants to do just that.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) The same reason they traded young prospects for Trumbo and Addison Reed, they want to win now. Odds are Arroyo performs better than Delgado in 2014, that's what they care about Yeah, its just that Arroyo is on the down slide while it would appear Delgado should continue to improve given his young age. Arroyo could buy time so Bradley isn't rushed since two years of Arroyo is a shorter commitment than a few other FA pitchers we all know the names of.
  12. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) The rest of his peripherals are good, his BB rate is excellent, and yeah, I'm sure he could improve. I love the low walk rate which shows he throws strikes but also explains the bombs too. Just don't see that going over well at US Cellular. It does make me wonder why they signed Arroyo who also throws strikes and gives up bombs. I would have stuck with Delgado but I guess they will use Delgado as #6 starter? I suppose Arroyo is an improvement but at age 36, for how long? Costly too compared to Delgado.
  13. Uh, no. 24 HR's in 116 innings last year is beyond scary. Not that he isn't capable of improving but, no.
  14. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) I disagree. It's hilarious the spin Kenny and this organization gets away with since they won in '05. The quote in the first post in this thread is one example, another is Kenny could have built a top notch farm system if he wanted to!! ha. Oh come on. Is everything a conspiracy to you? Or are you just that desperate for attention? Kenny made some bad draft choices no doubt and hind sight is always 20/20 but to insinuate that kenny didn't want to build a to notch farm is just plain dumb. There's just no other way to put it.
  15. Yeah, I don't see the Mariners having interest in ADA if Cruz is signed. Seattle has other options available.
  16. I think Kenny was referring to his " rebuilding on the fly" that he had talked about a few years ago when he was still the GM.
  17. I don't know about Paulino as our #3 but I would say the writeup was spot on. Not sure how many innings we can expect from Paulino in his first full season back from injury.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) if people actually care to debate points that havent been beaten to death, it will remain open This is why I remain silent on the issue, just don't know what else to say that hasn't been said already in the other two threads. Not trying to troll, just having a little fun since the Sox rumor mill so incredibly boring right now.
  19. Anyone care to guess how long before this thread is closed, like the other two?
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 12:37 PM) They are listed by position, according to the article, Dermis Garcia (SS-3B) is the top guy and is expected to sign with the Yanks for $3M+. Article also says that Yanks plan on spending $10M+ this summer in free agency. Not sure what the level of penalty is they receive for that, but that seems a bit extreme as they are likely to be allotted around $3M total. Yeah, I would not be surprised one bit if the yanks spent that much or more. ESPN rated their farm 20th and they gave their 2014 1st and 2nd round picks to Atlanta and Boston so they have to replenish somehow.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 3, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) Nice! This thread and the closed thread are examples of an Ouroboros.
  22. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Feb 3, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) Is there an ignore button? Probably better to ignore the thread entirely since it doesn't seem to be about Dunn any more. This has turned into the same thread that was closed.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 1, 2014 -> 10:49 PM) Name a better LH outfielder? I don't know if there is one but I just can't think of one right now. I'm sure there has to be one though. Just thought of Cargo. So is there anyone else? Haven't looked into it, just an idea. CF is also an option too, just slide Eaton over to LF. Dunn will have to be replaced and its possible Tank could move to DH which opens either CF or LF depending on who Sox would try to get. I'm not against the thought of going after Rasmus, look at Marty's post, he talks like I had already mentioned Rasmus when I had not done so. Talk about coming out of nowhere.
  24. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 10:37 PM) Colby Rasmus is going to have a lot of suitors next offseason and they'll be the biggest spenders. The Sox aren't going to win the bidding for him. As far as signing a pitcher goes, I think that rotation is a problem that needs to be addressed. A mid-rotation contract for Jimenez or Santana would be a wise investment at this point given their future payroll comittments. Where did Rasmus name come from? Is he the only LH outfielder? I never even menioned Rasmus. As for the pitchers, I'm done talking about them. There's 12 pages worth of reasons NOT to sign either on of them.
  25. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) You belong to that SABR crowd, but you're not one of the militant ones so I'm sure you know any player you sign has the potential to be a bad contract. What made Dunn's contract so awful was the Sox farm system was than only thing worse than it, they were locked into him. With a lot of money to spend and presumably an improving farm system a mid-rotation starter is not even a drop in the bucket. Never have looked at SABR metrics. Nice try tho. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 05:35 PM) You might think you're fending them off, but really they're just laughing at you. Yup, pretty much. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) You're probably right and they are laughing at me. That doesn't mean the joke isn't on them. Just because you have money now doesn't mean it has to be spent now. That money could be used on Dunn's replacement after he's gone, or if Tank goes to DH it can be spent on a LH LF or a LH CF and move Eaton to LF or a catcher or any combo of these . All of those options better utilize the money than spending on pitchers that do not project good at the home run friendly Cell. You really think Jimenez' walks or Santana's HR's will project well at US Cellular? By no means is the joke on us.
