  1. These kinds of statements make me sad. Baseball has evolved so much in the past several years and the Sox really seem to have fallen behind. It's a fixable issue, but a willingness to admit when we're wrong isn't really a strong suit.
  2. Why trade him at his lowest possible value? If he has a bounce-back season, he can be used to bring back something more valuable than Joc Pederson.
  3. That's a $1.0B contract for Manny based on the formula proposed about 250 pages ago.
  4. That's my biggest concern at the moment. He takes a one-year prove-it deal and the Sox face much stiffer competition for him next offseason. The time is now. The Sox need Machado.
  5. The issue with the Yankees is money. I don't see how that gets better by moving Andujar's money and adding Kluber's money. Seems to me that they would be further painting themselves into the corner they are already in.
  6. Totally agree. I truly hope that the Sox aren't being used to drive up other bids in this process. Machado accelerates this rebuild in a way that no one else really can.
  7. I understand that each side is using the media as a mouthpiece in the negotiations. But the thing that I don’t understand is why the Nightengale reports keep coming out about the offer being so low. Why would we want other clubs believing that Machado’s number currently sits below $200M? All that does in my eyes is invite other teams to the table which seems like the opposite of what the Sox should want.
  8. How worried should we be about this? Never mind. I looked it up on my phone and he clarifies in the replies that the decision will be made this week. I thought that he was saying Machado to the Phillies would be done this week.
  9. Should this make us feel better or worse? Has JR negotiated any contracts lately? I'm not sure that changing the lead negotiator mid-stream makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
  10. Meh. He may be quiet at the moment, but I assume that's only because he doesn't have anything concrete. When the deal is actually getting close, I'd bet that he'll still be one of the very first to break it.
  11. Correct. There is a 0% chance that the Sox have only offered $200M and are still in the mix on this. At this point, I would think that their offer is somewhere in the $260-280M range depending on the number of years.
  12. And that's the exact reason that it'll never happen at that price point.
  13. You've gotta give us more than that to go on! We're junkies! We need our medicine!
  14. While we're all dreaming about Harper and Machado both ending up on the South Side, has anyone considered what the lineup would look like if both of them were in it?
  15. Where is this info coming from? That's the first I've heard about the specifics of the meeting.
  16. Not sure why everyone is so quick to dismiss people that claim to have information. The Quintana deal was literally broken by two redditors named KatyPerrysBootyHole and WetButt23. This guy could ultimately end up being a troll, but it’s not always only the main national guys that have info.
  17. This guy has been tweeting a ton the last week or so. He’s either connected or he does a good job pretending to be.
  18. Honest question: Outside of Rosenthal, what reporters are we supposed to believe? It seems like every time a rumor is posted, there are a half dozen posts discrediting the source regardless of who says it.
