  1. This may have already been discussed, but would the Braves be able to potentially re-sign him?
  2. QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) Abreu as the elder statesman/mentor makes perfect sense. Also, yeah, extensions. I think I would actually really like to extend both. Then in a couple years when the kids are ready to move into their OF spots, move Avi to 1B and Abreu to DH.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) That is a whole lot of castle built on a quick comp. In the long run the comp means nothing. Courtney Hawkins was comped to Matt Kemp...
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 31, 2017 -> 09:52 AM) Pats lost this deal already. Everyone thinks everything the Pats does is gold but it really isn't true. Tom Brady covers up a lot. They have busted on some large FA signings and the Chandler Jones trade was no bueno. The Pats are giving off the same kind of vibe to me that the Colts were when Peyton was getting older. They were still winning 10+ every season but it was all because of Manning. Once he was gone, they were (are) a dumpster fire.
  5. Totally onboard with everything stated in the article. Makes a ton of sense. Only (small) gripe is that the Tigers aren't in the division anymore, but that's only because one of my best friends is a Tigers fan and we make fun of each others teams all year long.
  6. Heyman is reporting that Holland will opt out and pursue free agency. Any chance the Sox are involved? He was pretty great to start the season and faded considerably late. The Sox track record with relievers lately coupled Herm's ability to keep everyone healthy could be appealing to him. Thoughts?
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 08:08 AM) Anyone know what the recovery for the surgery mentioned would be? Given his track record, 12 months. Just long enough to miss another full season.
  8. QUOTE (Lillian @ Oct 10, 2017 -> 07:19 AM) [/b] Moncada? Pretty sure he meant remaining in the minor league system.
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) I will be surprised if the Sox pick a HS player. Not that he doesn't deserve it but the sox just don't typically take HS in the first round. The last one I can think of was Gio Gonzalez in around 2004-2005. Either way they just don't do it often. Courtney Hawkins
  10. 8/10 Lose a point for the Yankee deal (although I'm not ready to totally close the door on Rutherford) and lose another point for the Tatis deal (I know that was before the "official" start of the rebuild but I'm not going to ignore it.) I also would have liked a nicer 3rd piece in both the Sale and Q deals. I would have rather seen those deals look like the Eaton deal (two studs and a nice high upside 3rd piece) than where they ended up (two studs and two org filler pieces).
  11. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) I still really love Seth Beer. He fits exactly what we've been drafting recently too. Powerful bats with great walk/K's ratios but lack defensively. Despite is shortcomings I wouldn't think he is for sure a non-option anywhere for us from any pick we have Brice Turang gets my vote. Super high ceiling prep SS that projects to stay there long term. Struck out ONCE in 101 ABs last season. I'll be watching both he and Jarred Kelenic very closely this coming season.
  12. Who are some guys that the Sox can acquire, either through trade or free agency, that could wind up being next seasons Tommy Kahnle or Anthony Swarzak? Guys that can be brought in without having to give up too much that can be turned into interesting prospects at the deadline.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) You guys are sleeping on Dunning 100% agree.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) The wrong guys go south and this could be a disaster. They did what they did, and probably what they had to do, I'm still looking at it cautiously. I'm not sold on the talent evaluators and developers. I don't know why they suddenly would become top of the line. That has been a fear for me all along. The reason that this rebuild started moving along so quickly was that we had some premier talent locked up on team friendly deals. If these new guys flounder, we won't be in position to jump start another rebuild. We'll be looking at a long, slow, extended rebuild that could take as long as a decade. I'm willing to give our talent developers a shot, but not for long. It's telling to me that for the past 6-8 years, the Sox first round pick immediately became the top prospect in the organization. This year (extenuating circumstances, I know) Jake Burger slotted in at 13. Maybe the lack of position player development in recent years had more to do with the lack of talent in the organization and not necessarily our inability to develop position players.
  15. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 12:18 PM) I just stared at that top 30 from pipeline for like 5 minutes and was just laughing. These last two trades just bumped Nicky Delmonico and Bernardo Flores. Delmonico may be able to play in the majors and not embarrass himself and he can't even make our top 30. We might literally have so many major league capable guys next year that some are going to have to stay in AAA. I just can't believe how much this system has changed in one year. Obviously we still have work to do to become the kind of system with sustained success, but this is a hell of a one year turn around. Just looked at the prospect rankings from the end of 2015. The Sox #2, #3, and #4 prospects on that list are currently #12, #16, and NR.
  16. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 06:13 AM) Fangraphs has the Sox and Phillies projected to finish with identical 62-100 records. Every loss from here on out matters. http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Standings After the Jennings trade, the standings updated and still have the Phillies at 62-100, but have the Sox finishing at 63-99. Addition by subtraction?
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 07:18 AM) Jeesh, their pen seemed strong already when we played them. Everyone's Pen seems strong when we play them...
  18. How quickly and at what age does power start to develop (I know that it varies by player, but generally speaking)? Rutherford hasn't showed it yet, but I've still seen his FV Power grade as high as 60. I guess I'm just a little surprised at the lack of HRs on his resume at the moment.
  19. Based on the amount of "We got screwed!" I'm seeing both here and on the Yankee forums, I'm going to say that this is actually a very even trade. I thought Polo was pretty underwhelming when I first saw the deal come through, but after seeing his numbers and reading up on him a bit I like him more and more. That's not to say that he's going to make a major impact on the next great Sox team, but I like him more than the guys in the back half of the Q deal.
  20. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 02:52 AM) nice piece on Polo from everyone's favorite pirate prospecting site If the sox hit the lotto with Polo we're looking at Alejandro De Aza, the mid point would be rob Mackowiak and the low point would be org filler. This link isn't taking me to anything about Polo. Am I missing something?
  21. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:29 PM) Rich people problems. "My wallet's too small for my fifties and my diamond shoes are too tight!"
  22. QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 06:20 PM) God that's getting old. Disagree. It's exciting
  23. QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 02:20 PM) If Robles is on the table it's time to cash in on Kahnle. The Nats bullpen deficiencies require multiple moves, we're the only team out there that can address it in one deal and do it in a way that adds no financial burden to their books. If Rizzo's plan is to go out and find three Swarzak's he'll likely come up short than overpay for a lesser option after the trade deadline. At some point including Robles in a deal like this might actually make more sense from an asset standpoint than doing multiple smaller deals and gutting their farm depth. The Sox offer the added benefit of immediate relief and longer term asset control. It puts the Nats in a better position to resign a guy like Swarzak and you have multiple years of control on Kahnle and at least one more year of Robertson. But from Rizzo's perspective you figure there's a certain level of hesitance to pull another big deal with the same team in the course of such a short window. The perception that he gave away the farm to the Sox would be a fairly accurate judgment. He's not. They are absolutely not trading a consensus top 10 prospect for relievers, regardless of how many you throw at them. We, better than anyone, should realize what it takes to get a top 10 OF. We just did it. It took 3+ years of a cost controlled All Star SP. Harper is gone in a couple years and they know that they will need a replacement. Refocus on Soto and/or Kieboom. They are a hell of a lot more realistic than Robles.
  24. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) Would be awesome to see that happen. Nats get to keep their top 2 prospects and also increase their chances of winning this year or next. I'm big on Soto and Kieboom. I'd rather leave Kahnle out of it and do something like Robertson, Swarzak, and cash for Soto and Kieboom. Keep Kahnle and let him close the rest of this season and first half of next and then unload him for an Andrew Miller type package.
  25. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) I'd prefer the best possible talent back, regardless of position, but another IF would be nice to add to the mix! Robertson and some cash to the Nats for Carter Kieboom and Luzardo is my dream at the moment.
