***Day 3 MLB Draft Thread Rounds 11-40***
He was substantially better in 2018, maybe Sox hoping he can regain that form? Could be talking out my a**, but this seems like a fairly weak draft overall.

When Madrigal gets to the White Sox...
Too soon to really project.

He's the type of arm you take a chance on and see if he can be developed

The freaking Diamondbacks landed 13 of the MLB.com top 200 players. That is insane.

Given the two, I feel like it's more likely a pitcher figures it out enough to hang around. Hit tool and control are skills that are pretty difficult to teach

20 grade control? Yikes

FS Breakdown: 3rd and 4th Round Picks Andrew Dalquist and James Beard
Big difference being Abrams might stick in the middle IF, and projects to have a little above average hit tool. Beard's hit tool is unknown at this stage due to lack of competition. I like the pick though!

Have to like the Sox going after such a talented young defensive catcher at this point. Catching depth is very valuable and important in the organization.

Nick Madrigal promoted to Birmingham
I could be wrong, but I see Vaughn getting some reps in Kannapolis, and finishing the last 6 weeks of the season at Winston Salem...with the possibility of playing in the AFL. Ideally he starts next season in High A, and reaches AA by June/July

https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/which-teams-went-college-senior-heavy-on-day-2/ The Sox are going to come out swinging in the draft today. Fans should absolutely be excited. They went cheap senior heavy and should have some pool money remaining to play with here.

Where is Nick Madrigal at in his development?
Madrigal has been promoted to AA!

Where is Nick Madrigal at in his development?
Madrigal is going to be just fine. Give him some time to adjust to minor league baseball and I think Sox fans will be satisfied by his progress by end of 2019. He has stolen 17 bases in 49 games, and has played excellent defense as far as I have heard. Do not discount those things.

Sox post round 1 change of strategy?
Giolito is an example to keeping faith with a guy, and letting him find himself over time. Really goes to show that players can turn things around and not to give up too soon,

If you draft a guy in the top 5 rounds, you better be 95% sure he's going to sign with you.

I could see that. Can only splurge on high upside prep lottery tickets so much at the top and still be able to not exceed bonus pool. Yet another reason why the league must do away with competitive balance picks.

5th round senior pick was a must, likely to help sign Dalquist. I'd bet they look to the college ranks in round 6
-
***Day 2 MLB Draft Thread Rounds 3-10***
A high school player refusing to sign would mean he has opted to honor his college commitment. They are typically draft eligible again after their junior season of college. Most players selected in the high rounds end up signing, they forego a ton of money by not

It would be pretty humorous if Metzdorf actually turned into something decent. A lefty pen arm?
-
***Day 2 MLB Draft Thread Rounds 3-10***
Believe me, the Sox called the kid first and asked if he's willing to take $10,000. No way they risk losing $390,000 of valuable bonus pool They will need it to sign Thompson, definitely Dalquist, and possibly Beard
-
***Day 2 MLB Draft Thread Rounds 3-10***
Seniors like Metzdorf have zero leverage against taking a drastically lower bonus amount. Sox can likely get him signed for $10-20,000 vs. slot of $390,000.00 = big savings
-
***Day 2 MLB Draft Thread Rounds 3-10***
Sox probably ended up saving over $350,000 by picking Metzdorf there
-

Metzdorf??? WTF? Here comes the cheap senior signing

***Day 2 MLB Draft Thread Rounds 3-10***
I like this draft so far as well. Our system really needed to get deeper and younger. Vaughn was obvious BPA, but Thompson/Dalquist/Beard are talented prep lottery tickets. I'm really happy they have shifted away from being so college heavy, our low minors needed this injection of talent.
