  1. Part of the reason the Sox only scored one run is because the spent the entire game trying to score 5. This mindset of "score all the runs now now now" when its only the bottom of the 2nd has been a consistent problem for the Sox in the Ventura era. It's part of the reason early deficits like the one Danks created today are so crippling.
  2. It's not the fear of him playing bad defense, its the fear of him playing defense so badly that he does something like bulldoze into his CF and tear all the ligaments in his knee. Schwarber spent 2015 diving face first into grass while the ball landed 20 feet behind him, you cant tell me major injury wasn't a glaring possibility with him. Manny was nowhere near as bad a defender as Schwarber, not even close. Manny also played LF in Boston which as close to DH as it gets.
  3. But he cant field! Did you watch the playoffs last year and think he was going to figure it out? No, he was going to get himself hurt because he has zero (absolutely zero, its almost remarkable) spacial awareness in the OF. He would dive at nothing. There was talk going into the offseason of Theo trading hin for pitching, talk which quickly evaporated, I suspect for non-baseball reasons. Theo had to have seen this coming. You think they stockpiled all that OF depth just for yucks?
  4. The point of it is not to orient the entire offense around 1 player, but to try and create an environment where a few hits can be strung together.
  5. If I'm Schwarber or his agent I'm demanding the Cubs move him once healthy (aka this offseason). They really should have done it this offseason but didn't for obvious reasons. His risk of injury playing the field was exponentially higher than most players, lo and behold the first game the Cubs dont have the DH to fall back on he completely wrecks his knee. Left field is a suicide mission for Kyle Schwarber.
  6. Or Rollins. Anyone actually... I really hope Matt Davidson turned a corner this Spring for real.
  7. 1 Jackson CF 2 Abreu 1B 3 Eaton RF 4 Frazier 3B 5 Rollins SS 6 Melky LF 7 Lawrie 2B 8 <DH> (pls no Avi) 9 Catcher platoon
  8. Have to find a way to get Melky out of the 5 hole and Avi out of the lineup. Abreu and Lawrie will turn it around, I've been pleased with Jackson and the catcher platoon so far.
  9. There's quite a gulf between "Chris Sale" and "5 runs in 2 innings".. to be fair Danks has settled down. The problem this offense is going to score more than 5 runs very rarely this year. The Sox are gonna have to win games by holding teams to low scores, not by scoring a lot themselves.
  10. Nah, this is the last year of Danks contract. There's no "well what about next year??" anymore; the Sox can drop him out of the rotation no problem. They're gonna pay him anyways.
  11. Alright 5 games in and the offense really hasn't done anything yet except for one 9th inning run where a reliever was left out there to die... maybe time to shake things up. Maybe the Melky-Avi combo should be broken up? Maybe Abreu batting 2nd? This offense really isn't appreciably different than the one I saw last year.
  12. I dont get how the offense could be this anemic against a guy who's managed to throw more balls than strikes.
  13. With Sale and Quintana the next two games the Sox are still in a good position to win this series. Danks gonna Danks I suppose.
