  1. at least frank still has some enthusiasm three-run dinger 3-0 sox frank closing in on A Rod, although I'd love to see A Rod knock a few out tonight against the Twinkies
  2. no damage dmtri grounds out garland bails out Jose
  3. that DP looked like April or May sick
  4. wondering if even the faithful are jumping ship after the last two defeats. time for Garland to keep stepping forward
  5. am I missing a game thread? Or has enthusiasm disappeared with another loss in Comerica Park?
  6. Two things: Jeremy Reed got some love in the New York Times this morning. About an eight-inch story leading off its minor league roundup with quotes from Reed and Wally Backman. 2.) the all-star teams are nice, but more revealing are the top 20 prospect lists from each league. Baseball America said those will be ready by the end of September. I'm certain Reed will make the list in the Carolina and Southern leagues (I remember Vernon Wells made it in three leagues two or three years ago. I believe Rocco Baldelli was on two or three lists last year when he was named overall Minor League Player of the Year.) I also saw a note on the BA web page this week that said Reed was definitely a candidate for BA Minor League player of the year.
  7. if all of these folks think JM is an idiot (and he is) and they have JR's ear (and at least Hawk does), why is Manuel still around? it's confounding
  8. today AND tomorrow are both critical no more losses to the Tigers if the Sox lose the division five games or less, these losses to the Tigers will be bugging the hell out of us all winter.
  9. crede is the best hitter in the AL this month. he can handle Rivera. Be his national coming out party!!!!!!!!
  10. love to see willie get a little better lead so he can score on a gapper
  11. run harris, ph with Graf that's what I would do
  12. This team, and this franchise, would not be this team, and this franchise, without all the intrigue and mystery. Right? Think Glass Half Full. If Cotts beats Mussina, it's a helluva lift for the rest of the season -- as well as a major downer for the Steinbrenners, who face Boston this weekend. BEAT MOOSE!!!!
  13. thought it was Neal, then Mark and then back to Neal?
  14. it appears that JM has pulled another switcheroo. because the Sox have won the first two games of the Yankees series, Cotts, not Buehrle, will pitch today. That's how he made the decision. Two wins in the series = Cotts. A split series = buehrle. Seems like a strange way to run a team. Buehrle's arm and shoulder ought to be the deciding factor. If he is sound, he goes. If he is tired and tight, give him the day. This game has the potential to be a big spark to carry into Motown -- or a serious downer. Hate to see them concede a game just because Mussina is pitching. Somebody tell JM the lead is only 1 1/2 games.
  15. Tigers have beaten the Sox six freakin times. I sat through the Saturday night game when Gary "Cy Young" Knotts beat Esty 1-0 on May 24. Heck, Sox needed extras to beat them on a Crede homer the next day -- or we would be talking about two three-game sweeps by the Timid Tigers. I doubt if they have beaten any other team more than three or at most four times that, alone, should motivate this group not to have another snoozefest like the last time they passed through Comerica in early July and scored three runs in three games and got ... well, we all know what happened. BEAT MOOSE!!!!!
  16. Slight improvement for Koch 2/3 of a inning, no hits, no runs, but one, two, three walks without a K. Paniagua makes his Charlotte debut 1 inning 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 strikeouts No gun readings on either guy. and Joe Borchard continues an impressive August and his drive toward .250. which is better than it sounds considering he lingered below .230 for much of the season. two more hits, including his 19th double, two runs scored and an RBI September callups, all of them?
  17. CUBS LOSE! CUBS LOSE! CUBS LOSE!
  18. rooney just said he expects Cotts to start farmer said that Buehrle should go on his regular day they claim it is still undecided
