If the Sox acquire Frazier and Upton without giving up major league pi
I still think making Saladino the starting SS would be a major mistake.

The LaRoche article dug up from 2015
If the Sox are planning on paying LaRoche's full salary to play ELSEWHERE, then they might as well keep him and hope he bounces back in 2016. Just my opinion.

Cubs Working to get Shelby Miller

Why NOT trade Chris Sale?
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 09:45 PM) be careful there.... know your sox pitchers and sox history. with that general ref there would have to have some stipulation and parameters to make an list of who qualifies. but i am like you at this time. he is a true #1 elite sp. At least for me, it's hard to compare Sale to the old timers (Walsh, Lyons, Faber, etc) because I never saw those guys play. Not to mention that the game was completely different back then.

Why NOT trade Chris Sale?
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) same here, it like have always wanted mark burlhe to be a lifer.... money and shortsightedness on the owners. No offense to Buehrle, but from a pure talent standpoint, I believe that Sale is much, much better. I'd go as far as to say that Sale is one of the best pitchers to ever wear a White Sox uniform.

Why NOT trade Chris Sale?
I still have this slight hope in my mind that Sale could be a White Sox lifer, but I'm not counting on it. It'd be awesome if it happened though.

Why NOT trade Chris Sale?
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 09:34 PM) Maybe if they could re-work his contract so he makes decent amount more each year the remainder of the contract and then bought more free agent years on top of it. I really like that idea. Maybe they could give him $5 million more a year if he agrees to extend his deal through 2021 or 2022. Good thinking.

Why NOT trade Chris Sale?
If Hahn did plan on extending Sale, what kind of contract would he give him? 7 years and $150 million?

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 07:12 PM) I am honestly good with any one of the four OFs. I would prefer Heyward, Upton, Cespedes, Gordon. In that order probably Swap Upton and Cespedes and that is my list as well.

Why NOT trade Chris Sale?
Would it be wrong for me to say that Sale is the most valuable pitching asset on the trade market when you factor in his age and salary/contract?

Sale Talks About His Contract
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) Agree. If I were a fan of another team and I looked at the Sox roster, outside of the obvious proven (not counting prospects) ones (Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Abreu, Eaton), I wouldn't want anyone else on that roster. Maybe a couple relievers but that's it. I'd possibly put Melky in that tier as well but I agree for the most part. It really is a shame that the rest of the team sucks because the core that the Sox have is absolutely elite.

Sale Talks About His Contract
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 10:42 PM) It is weird how we have Robertson (ultra elite), Abreu (ultra elite) Sale and Q (ultra elite) and yet our team blows. (I can't put Melky in elite cause I'm a Melky/hater). We have a weird dynamic going on during the Robin-era. Agreed. It seems like there is a HUGE gap between the talent levels on the team. Like you said, there are a few guys that are absolutely elite and then the rest are terrible.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) Sign OF Justin Upton 6 years/125 million Trade OF Trayce Thompson and SP Chris Beck for 3B Brett Lawrie Trade 1B Adam LaRoche, SP Frankie Montas, OF Avisail Garcia, and SP Tyler Danish for OF Carlos Gonzalez CF Adam Eaton (L) DH Melky Cabrera (S) 1B Jose Abreu LF Carlos Gonzalez (L) RF Justin Upton 3B Brett Lawrie C Alex Avila/Dioner Navarro 2B Carlos Sanchez (L) SS Tyler Saladino Thoughts? If they go all in like that, I'm 99.9% sure that Saladino wouldn't be the starting shortstop.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (professa @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) Sign Justin Upton to a 7/147M deal (MLBTR projection) Trade Avi Garcia+ for Brett Lawrie Sign Alexei Ramirez 1/7.5M Sign Matt Albers 1/2.5 Payroll: 135M (Current=~95M+10M(Arbitration) + 21(Upton) + 7.5(Alexei) + 2.5 (Albers)) Lawrie included in arbitration figure. I think JR can be convinced to spend more given what's coming off the books next year. Might as well go all in. VS RHP VS LHP 1. Eaton CF Eaton CF 2. Melky RF Melky DH 3. Abreu 1B Abreu 1B 4. Upton LF Upton LF 5. LaRoche DH Trayce RF 6. Lawrie 3B Lawrie 3B 7. Avila C Navarro C 8. Alexei SS Alexei SS 9. Sanchez 2B Sanchez Bench Saladino Navarro Trayce Shuck Rotation 1. Sale 2. Q 3. Rodon 4. Danks 5. EJ Pen 1. Robertson 2. Jones. 3. Duke 4. Albers 5. Petricka 6. Putnam 7. Jennings I could see them doing something similar to this although I'm still not sure if that is a playoff caliber team.

Why NOT trade Chris Sale?
If the Sox plan on dealing Sale, I just don't see them finding a suitable return for him until mid 2017 or 2018 at the earliest. He's too valuable right now and no team will pay up for him.

Ben Zobrist
I sometimes wonder if BlackSox13 and I are the same person because we agree on virtually everything concerning the Sox.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
Is GreenSox intentionally trying to troll all of us or what?

Sale Talks About His Contract
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:41 PM) Felix Hernandez agrees Exactly my point. Did a guy like him deserve to be surrounded by crap for that long? No. That's why Hahn needs to do something and make sure that Sale's prime years don't go to waste either. Nothing would make me happier than to see Sale pitching game 1 of a playoff series at the Cell.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:44 PM) I'm okay with Upton if they get rid of Melky and trade Eaton. Avi-Trayce-Upton is a much better OF. Much rather sign Upton than trade young players to rent an overrated fraud like Frazier. Please tell me you're kidding.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) Eaton CF Cabrera LF/DH Abreu 1B Upton RF Frazier 3B LaRoche DH/Thompson LF Navarro/Avila C Saladino (maybe Ramirez) SS Sanchez 2B I'd still like to get a veteran at a middle infield spot (and one that can maybe hit in 2-spot). The bottom half of that lineup is still a black hole IMO.

White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
Heyward and Longoria would be awesome but that won't happen.
-
White Sox targeting OF Justin Upton
No. No. No. Please don't let this happen. I'd much prefer Cespedes or Heyward.

Todd Frazier Available
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:30 PM) I mean lets say Fulmer and Anderson are off limits... You gotta hope at that point that Montas is a good enough starting point and then let them take their pick of everyone else, but I have a feeling that the Reds are going to make some one pay something crazy for him, they are trying to rebuild that Franchise and Frazier is their best chip, if I'm them the conversation starts with Rodon. If the conversation starts with Rodon, then I pray to god that Hahn is smart enough to hang up the phone. Rodon is going to be a star in this league and I would cry if Hahn traded him for 2 years of Todd Frazier.

Sale Talks About His Contract
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 08:25 PM) Yet you want no part of Todd Frazier. I wouldn't be opposed to him if the Sox don't give up Anderson or Fulmer. While I want the Sox to build a contender now, I'd hate for them to deplete the farm system yet again for a guy that looked to be on the decline at the end of last year. It's a really hard position for Hahn to be in. I'm glad I'm not a GM.

Sale Talks About His Contract
All I know is that it is not fair to him or the fans to have a future Hall of Fame talent (if he keeps this up), surrounded by a heaping pile of garbage except for a few guys. Hahn needs to get his s*** together and surround his stars with better complimentary players.
