QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) I've learned that is inevitable thanks to my time on a major college campus. Hell, I got much closer to a fight on a couple of occasions at a Northwestern football game. However, the vast majority of us have no problems or incidents whatsoever in US Cellular. True, but if you are new to the Sox and have heard all of the crap about it not being safe and people running on the field, 1/2 price night drunks do not help dispell that media perpetuated image. I just want success for the Sox. I won't dwell on it any further, but I will e-mail Mr. Boyer and tell him how at least some of potential customers view this promotion.

QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) SECURITY! SECURITY! MORE!!! SECURITY!! I brought a Chicago sports fan with me to opening day. He had a blast. He had so much fun he bought tickets for Monday night's game for him and his family. Well, he called me after the game to celebrate the victory with me. Although he really enjoyed the game, the Sox organization should really take note of his comments. He said he was in section 113. In section 111 there was a fight that somebody's nose got busted and was bleeding everywhere. He said "don't take this wrong, because I'm a Sox fan now too, but I can see why there is a stereotype about drunk violent Sox fans." He realized that fights happen everywhere there is alcohol, he wondered where the hell was securtity and why did it take 5 minutes to get there? He also said that he doesn't think his wife will go again and he probably won't bring his daughter anymore. With all of the problems over the years, to not have tight security during 1/2 price drunk fest is unacceptable. My advice, NO MORE 1/2 price nights unless they are upper deck. Also, MORE SECURITY!!!! Some more details from my buddy. A vendor was trying to keep the peace and stop the fight. He called for security from section 113 and they did not respond. Just refused. I don't know why. There was a little girl in the middle of the disturbance. My buddies wife went out on to the concourse and she said there was like 10 security guys out there. She told them somebody better get down there because there was a little girl in the middle of the fight. Then they responded. Five minutes too late. My buddy was sitting next to some out of towners who had just come to the game for the heck of it. He said they were horrified.

How about instead of 1/2 price for drunk idiots, buy one adult ticket and get a kid ticket for free. Didn't the Sox used to have some kind of kid's day promotion. I never paid attention before, but now I have kids. I'm not a prude. I've had more than my share of beer. But there has to be Security. One of purposes of discount nights is to attract someone curious who might not pay full price. Then hopefully that person becomes a die hard fan with www.soxtalk.com as his homepage. I don't think the purpose is to bring in scrub fans with nothing to do to root against us.

I'd be happy if they quit selling alcohol all together. Someone please post some e-mail addresses for people in the Sox organization so that I can write them. Sorry about the rant. I know one guy in all of Rockford who I've finally shown that the Sox are a better team. I've conviced him that the negative Sox stuff is Cubune perpetuated crap and now this bulls*** happens.

I'll give AJ $100 bucks for every homerun he hits off of the freakin twinkies. I might have to pay him in deferred money. I am sooooooo sick of the freakin twinkies.

Uribe was the utility man at the beginning of last year. He carried the team with his hot bat. How can you sit Ozuna on the bench? I know it won't last. I know it is spring, but you just don't sit someone on the bench hitting .500. Hypothetically, if he is still hot in April, who do you sit? Iguchi? Crede? How will Ozzie get him involved? Not too long ago, most, including myself, thought that utility infielder was a hole. KW might have made another one of his seemingly little moves that may have a bigger than expected impact.

Back to Hawk YALL I think he is a bit bored broadcasting the dog days of spring training. It's pretty hard to get excited about a strike out by a pitcher that has absolutely no chance of making the team in a game that doesn't count. Thank goodness for the interviews. I don't know how well they would work during the season, but having the players up in the booth has been great this spring. With all of the new players, it gives them a chance to kind of introduce themselves to the fans. Also, in Hawk's defense, perhaps those who have grown weary of the Hawkisms may have just watched so many games that he is bound to seem repetative. I mean, I would imagine that fans who take the time to visit Soxtalk watch as many games as possible. If you were to talk to anyone 3 hours a day, that person might start to get on your nerves at times. Well, while I'm arguing for Hawk's greatness, I might as well mention how thrilling it must be for some guy to turn on a Sox game just because nothing else is on. Then he/she hears a YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD, or a COME ON TIMO call. That is pretty damn exciting and makes a lasting impression.

Nice preview man. I printed it off and gave it to a buddy of mine that I'm trying to convert from the dark side. He likes all Chicago teams but doesn't know much about the Sox. The Northside gets 25 seconds of the 30 second baseball news here in Rockford. He's going to opening day with me this year. Now he'll know a little more about the team.

Hawk's a homer but I'd be crushed if he were to leave. When there were some rumors this winter about him possibly going to Tampa, I was worried. I love his rhythm, his old stories, his catch phrases, and his enthusiam. He's perfect for me. I too am a homer. I even appreciate his silent times when the Sox are blowing a game. You can just tell he's gritting his teeth trying not to say anything that would get him in trouble with the FCC. Sometimes I think he gushes praise about a player who is in a slump just so that it may give that player some confidence. Whoever replaces him someday will not come close to filling his shoes.

Gambling on sports

Thanks everyone. Has anyone heard of any problems giving credit card number to ************? What if I win a ton of cash? How would taxes be handled? Just curious of course. Sox are 4.5 to 1 to win the division there. -
Other than going to Vegas, is there a way to put money on the Sox to win the division or the world series? I've heard about out of country sites. Has anyone used them? Are they safe? Are they legal? Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd just like to put a few bucks down and I don't want to go to Vegas. Thanks

One of the fall outs of the Sosa trade

Good. Let them help pay for our players. Maybe payroll will go up another 7-8 million next year. Heck make it so you have to buy an Ozzie or Minnie plan to see B-more too. -
Guys like Larkin are rare. Makes me appreciate Frank Thomas' time here. I hope he can finish his career with the Sox and like 3 world series rings.

Is there any way to know how advance ticket sales are doing this year compared to the last few years? I wonder if that helped JR free up some cash. Which then further increased ticket sales. Funny how that works.

By the way, welcome chitownfan! I have a feeling that even if Rowand has all-star numbers, he will somehow get screwed out of it. I'd rather have about 4 of our pitchers make the team.

QUOTE(silver and black @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 03:02 AM) :fthecubs :sosasucks You suck... It's one or the other You can't rout for both! I think a lot of casual fans can and do like both. I liked both when I was a kid. It's not as hard to imagine if you are far enough outside of the city. I rooted for Fisk and Sandberg. As these casual fans come to the Cell, can we try not to make them feel like idiots for not knowing everything. I think the cubs are not quite as loveable anymore and more of these casual fans will make it to the Cell to see the new blood Sox. The more that happens, the more that will see the light. I don't like the cubs for reasons I'm sure that a lot of us share, so please don't hurl poo poo at me.

I followed the link on that press release to order my nine game plans (a big deal for me). I wanted to let the timing of my purchase to match the Iguchi signing to show my approval. Thank you KW and JR for a fine offseason. Now let the countdown to opening day begin. I've never been to opening day before.
-
Tadahito sure is Neet-O. Thank you very muchi, Mr. Iguchi
-
By the way gotohOO, thank you for all of the Iguchi information. I apprecitate your news and opinions.
-
Yea, then Frank could kick his ass on the team plane. Seriously, I love Hawk and his homer style. Steve Stone could really balance things out a bit. DJ seems cool, but I don't think he adds that much other than some comic relief.
-
How about the ninja? Does that somehow insult somebody and I'm too ignorant to realize it. If so, sorry. I already like Iguchi and I'll get his jersey when I know is number. Can we get a Japanese flag smiley?

I know he has had arm problems. I know that 2B is his best position due to those problems. I suspect he may no longer be a good shortstop. I just find it hard to believe that he couldnt play there a couple of times per month just to give Uribe a day off. If his arm it a complete noodle, the Sox had better give him a good physical. I guess we will know for sure this spring.

I'm expecting Avg .268 OBP .335 HR 18 Rbi 54 SB 19 A few adjustment errors in the field. Numbers aren't everything. I also expect him to confidently lay down the bunt to send SPod from his recently stolen 2b to 3b so Thomas can Sac Fly him home. I expect him to hit to the right side to move runners. I expect smart base running. I expect him to be a hard working fan favorite. I expect him to widen the Sox fan base in the far east. I expect him to make at least one commercial for Boyer. I expect him to be a nice guy of high moral character. I expect his presence on the team to increase attendance. I expect him to get better as the year goes on. I expect him to always put winning over his personal stats. And of course I'm expecting him to scream BANZI!!! as he steals home to clinch a World Series title for the Sox at Home.

Keep Harris for league minimum. Use him as a back up plan for Iguchi, a lefty off the bench, a pinch runner, and a backup centerfielder. Trade Timo for whatever prospect they could get and save the team 600,000. Bring in Larkin or another infielder capable of backing up Short. Willie has more upside than Timo. Unless there is a skeleton in Willie's closet that we are not aware of, that's what I'd do with him. I can't blame KW for signing Timo and Ben Davis at the time. He didn't know then that AJ and Iguchi would be on the team. Now, I think Willie and Burke are cheaper and more versatile alternatives.

AJ signing was going to have me going to more games. The Iguchi signing will have me sitting down this week and picking out 2 nine game plans. It's just a matter of work scedule, 2 hour drive, my 2 little babies, and my budget. If KW can get the job done for the team, I'd better do my part.
