Barria couldn’t get out a AAA lineup tonight but I’m still almost surprised the Sox are taking advantage

Two triples that should have been a double and a flyout
Ohtani should have been a double. No way on Trout’s. That is a home run in more than half of MLB parks and has an expected batting average of .830 on that ball. It was a play that theoretically can be made but that ball was smoked.

Barria has absolutely nothing so far tonight. Bad command with bad stuff.

The Sox were 5th in baseball in obp and walks taken in 2021 with essentially the same hitters. What happened to them?
Abreu left, Grandal got old and Moncada is hurt and bad and Anderson sucks now. They also had guys on the bench that year that took a fair amount of walks which isn't really the case now. Basically, the guys who took a ton of walks that year are gone or bad now and then Anderson had a batting average driven OBP but he has no power now either because of injury or age.

thanks ump
Not even remotely close. Cease has gotten 3 pitches that weren’t even close called strikes now against Trout.

Everything about Vaughn is so underwhelming
He’s a terrible athlete by MLB standards. He has to be a well above average hitter to have any value with being a negative on the bases and in the field. It’s also hilarious the Sox thought he could play in the outfield at all.

Andrew Vaughn lol

Honestly we still have potential. If we sell we are going to be horrendous for a long time. We are competing and losing. We are not identifying the reasons why we just find ways to lose. If we sell, it will just be intolerable baseball.
They don’t have potential. This lineup is absolute trash.

Some massive BABIP luck for Giolito that inning

If a pitcher has any talent at all and doesn’t throw him a hanger he has zero chance. If he doesn’t make massive changes to his approach it was a fun month or so but he won’t hit again other than an occasional home run he runs into.

Rangers got kind of screwed cuz that rule is selectively unforced.
I also don’t think that was enforced properly. He didn’t block the plate and he clearly had possession of the ball before Andrus got there. Insane call.

This US team is clearly the best in CONCACAF. Gio getting fit and getting a good striker in Balogun totally changes the outlook of this team offensively. We just beat Mexico and Canada 5-0 without some key players in the midfield. If this trajectory continues we'd be looking at a top 4 finish in Copa America next year.
Easily the best group of talent the USA has ever had and the gap between the USA and the other teams in CONCACAF from a talent perspective is massive right now. I'm hopeful that even though I really really dislike Berhalter, because I don't think he is a total joke as a coach (although he clearly isn't good and it is insane he is getting a second World Cup cycle when that often ends poorly) that the talent carries the day. He also better repair the relationship with Reyna or he needs to go because Reyna when healthy is a huge difference maker.

Burger is 27 and has only played 120 games. He still has a lot to learn, batting him lower takes some pressure off while he is adjusting to pitchers adjustments of nothing but down and away pitches he needs to lay off.
I’d rather see him bat 6th or 7th based on the dearth of quality players, but that’s just quibbling. If the writer watched some of those terrible at bats Jake had flailing at balls far beyond the strike zone this weekend, he’d have the answer as to why Jake Burger is batting in the bottom third of the lineup.
You had Robert, Eloy and others also with bad approaches, but they’ve been here for years and you can’t bat everyone in the 7-9 holes.
Yep. Burger looks like a bottom of the order guy right now. He makes some really hard contact and is dangerous but his approach is beyond horrendous and he has been absolutely dreadful in June. If you don't hang a breaking ball to him he has zero chance right now.

Bringing in Pollock is just such a laughable decision. That dude is totally washed and has been complete and total garbage against LHP this year.

Solid focus and effort to get out of that jam. Hope the Sox can take advantage and score a few runs tonight to back Michael.
With an assist from the ump on that at bat against Ford. First pitch wasn’t remotely close to being a strike and pitch 3 was borderline at best.

USA just totally outclassed Mexico tonight. Sad that Berhalter is coming back but maybe even he doesn’t suck enough to ruin this group (I’m hoping anyways). Mexico was absolute trash tonight with as dirty of play as you’ll ever see. And is there a more awful group of fans than Mexico soccer fans? They need to start docking Mexico points in tournaments, banning Mexico fans from games and fining the Mexico soccer federation significantly if they can’t stop the chants and ridiculous behavior.

I’m shocked that Elvis Andrus has been terrible and should have never been brought back. Well not that shocked

Reports that Berhalter is set to return. Absolutely absurd.

Wait so Graterol was available and you are going to use him anyways and Roberts went second inning Almonte and then Vesia? Roberts does so many unbelievably dumb things.

Why on earth would Dave Roberts leave a horrendous pitcher in for a second inning

Two of those years he was starting here.
Everyone gets old. Especially catchers.Yep. Solid in 2020 and really good in 2021 but this is the danger of signing free agents in their 30s

That was terrible by everyone on the team. Frazier should have hit the cutoff man there, Yaz can’t let it get past him and Santos didn’t back up the play.

How many IBBs for Brnitendi this year?
Also what an awful defensive play with the slowest runner in the majors on 2b.
Sanchez seems like he has zero baseball instincts.

Vaughn has never been a bust. He’s been disappointing.
torkelson is what a bust looks like.
This Tigers lineup is full of laughably bad players. A bunch of below replacement level players. Without Greene there is zero talent.

Insane BABIP luck by the Sox today. Angels hammering the ball, Sox hitting weak grounders and bloopers that are finding holes (with the exception of Anderson’s second hit but even that was pretty lucky to find a hole).
