Sox have Quero now too, he belongs with Montgomery and Schultz. Also reports are that Gonzalez will stick in MI and he could be a fine 2B. Probably really solid, nothing spectacular. Ramos isn't too shabby either.
There's a lot of pressure on these guys though.
It's not completely destitute, but not good either and their best players are 2+ years away.
I like what Shirley has done, Gonzalez wouldn't have been my pick this year based on who was available and everyone can split hairs on Crochet. I think Shirley is a massive upgrade on Sox scouting departments of years past. Even if some guys don't work out, I can't really argue with the philosophy much.
I can totally split hairs with Paddy because Reyes and Erick Hernandez have been a disaster, though there's still time.
I’m skeptical of Quero being a true impact talent. Good return on paper for Giolito but Montgomery and Schultz are potential stars. I’d be really surprised if Quero reaches that level, especially with the Sox and his defense needs to get way way better to even make it a possibility.

Good news is next year is last year they will be in the organization
The tough part about this rebuild is that other than Robert there isn’t a single good player in the majors that will be around (or at least should be) past next year and there isn’t a lot of premium talent in the minors and the two that they have (in Schultz and Montgomery) are a ways off and who knows how they develop and even if they do, do we really think the Sox organization will have enough depth around them to be good?

Do you think that this is the Tim Anderson that whatever team he's on next will get for the rest of his career or do you think its more likely that he's better next year? Its unfortunate that he's struggled but if I had to bet, I'd bet he'll be much better next year whether he's with the Sox or not.
And Moncada's back has absolutely killed him this year. It's unfortunate because it killed any chance he had at a normal season. He will probably require disc surgery or being completely shut down which the Sox refuse to do. It's unfortunate more then anything.
Anderson is 30 and has always been reliant on bat speed and athleticism over working counts, getting a good pitch to hit. With him lifting the ball less, losing some athleticism and his generally not great approach I won’t be surprised at all if he’s never all that good again.
And I’d be shocked if Moncada is ever good again

Jerry isn’t signing off on another rebuild man. They’re going to hope guys can bounce back and sign a few others to 1-2 year deals and “go for it.”
They can pitch it however they want but this is a rebuild. The roster is absolutely horrendous for next year and they aren’t going to increase salary so they are rebuilding. Anderson is the only bounce back candidate as well.

They’re not rebuilding. Trading the expiring contracts and maybe 1 or 2 guys controlled through next year and maybe a surprise deal like Burger is about it.
They are rebuilding. There is exactly one legitimately really good position player on the roster and they have one legitimate starting pitcher for next year. They are going to be absolutely terrible.

Middleton is terrible. The Sox got a lucky couple months out of him and he reverted back to who he is

Joe Ryan continues to be a total disaster since mid June. Another bad performance today and he can’t keep the ball in the yard. 13 home runs over his last 6 starts now.

And then they did nothing to address any of the problems and removed players from the team that was mediocre and replaced them with lesser players. This isn’t hard, TLR would be just as fucking bad with this roster and would have pissed us all off with bad head scratching moves by now while repeating after games how smart he is about things
yea let’s keep playing the TLR revisionary game, it’s fun
Yep. Lost Abreu who was their best bat from last year (he sucks this year but they still lost their best hitter and replaced with nothing) and their 2nd best pitcher from last year who was a total fluke walked as well. They brought in a shitty always injured 5th starter in Clevinger and then decided they would rely on Eloy (lol) to stay healthy. Add in some not shocking regression from Cease and Anderson falling off badly (which really started last year with his total loss of power) and here you are even with Luis Robert having a fantastic year.

Any attempt to blame Grifol just feels like an attempt to deflect from the root of the problem, even if that same root hired Grifol.
100%. This team has a terrible pitching staff, awful depth and a lineup with only one great hitter, maybe 2 other above average hitters and a number of guys who either suck defensively or are playing out of position or both. Grifol has been bad but the issues we are seeing really are because of the front office.

At some point the Sox will stop playing infielders who aren’t even good hitters corner outfielders

The Sox might have to trade a prospect along with Lynn to get someone to take him lol
-
It is absolutely absurd how frequently Carlos Correa grounds into double plays. Really bad signing so far for the Twins

Absolutely no reason for Andrus to be on this roster. God I hate Hahn so much.
Entirely predictable. He had sucked for years but the Sox gave him a contract based on one good month.

Lol at Lynn. What a joke.

Lol at Beckham giving Kopech credit for working out of the jam last inning. Pure luck that the Pham ball didn’t find a hole because that was hammered and he made a bad pitch.
-
The amount of luck Remillard has had on weakly hit balls since being called up is hysterical.
-
If the Sox approach is going to be to swing at literally every pitch it probably isn’t going to be a great night

How could Alonso have ever thought that pitch was a strike it was a foot outside when he started swinging

Carlos Carrasco is totally washed up. Wow is he bad.

man strider sucks
He has tonight. He has been missing his spots badly the entire night.

Such a terrible pitch there to Burger. Strider has been absolutely terrible today.
-
Eddie Rosario is a solid hitter but I’d be really nervous about him being in my outfield in crucial games in October.

Strider’s command is really not great tonight. Making a ton of mistakes with pitch location.

I don’t think people realize how truly terrible the talent level is on this squad. This is a Royals/As level team if you remove Robert after the Giolito trade.
