White Sox talk new deal with Scott Podsednik's agent
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) Pods put up great stats. I think he is by far our best hitter; seems like that dude just knows how to take what the pitcher gives him and get a hit. No? Beckham and AJ seem to have this ability as well. Pods by far our best hitter? You can't be serious can you? Gordon Beckham was a better hitter as a rookie than Pods in basically a career year for him. The 3 previous years to this one Pod was a horrible hitter and even this year he was about average for an AL leadoff man. Pods was one of our best hitters this year but that was a tallest midget contest. Historically Pods ranks behind Konerko, Rios, AJ, Beckham, Quentin. Pods has been a bad hitter more often than not in his career but had a decent year at the plate this and did everything else really poorly.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:27 PM) And now it's REALLY White Sox ball, bases loaded, 0 out, 3 singles, 0 runs. And I'm sure people will say "OMG YANKEES CONSPIRACY!!!!111" and "the ump lost it for the Twins" and all that if the Yankees win, and yes that was one of the worst calls in the history of umpiring/officiating/etc. But Mauer still got on base, the Twins still had the bases loaded 0 out, and they still blew it (and you can't assume the next two batters get on base and the exact same things happen if Mauer's double is properly called). So for once, I will be the anti-conspiracy guy here and say the Twins just blew it there. I actually agree. They had their chance and choked big time. If they lose then they can only blame themselves.

Maybe an awful Damaso Marte performance in the ALDS is a good thing for a team?

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) White Sox ball. 3 singles, bases loaded, 0 out. I would love to see an El Duque impression right here.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 09:17 PM) What call did they blow? A ball was clearly fair down the left field line would have been a double for Mauer and it was called foul. Not even a remotely close call.

Marte is really bad, I can't believe he is in for the Yankees in this situation.

**Official Twins vs. Yankees Thread**
How the hell do you blow that call? Unbelievable, definitely the Yankees year.

Lol at Nathan. Nice throw

Swisher hammered that ball. Nathan has nothing at all tonight.

I have a feeling A-Rod is going to make himself a New York legend this postseason.

QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) Sounds contradictory. Not really he is saying that he doesn't believe that guys can perform better in bigger spots but that he does believe they can perform worse in big spots.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 08:04 PM) that's the thing, he gets hits and walks when it counts. Actually Punto has sucked with RISP over the course of his career and his splits for late innings are equally horrible to his splits in the earlier innings. As are his splits in close games as opposed to blow outs.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) kubel, cabrera and span sucking it. And I wouldn't start calling a-rod clutch just yet. I'm not, but the whole idea that A-Rod isn't clutch is now and has always been stupid.

Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 07:18 PM) Yeah, that's not too bad though, there isn't room for everybody they are in on right now (even with all the schollies available) because they are in on so many good 2011 guys. Beal is the important guy IMO, although that won't be easy either obviously. Even a class of something like Abrams, Randle, Thompson/Langford (kid from Alabama who favors Illinois), Siakam/Shaw, and Egwu would be a great class. Best case scenario (although unlikely) would look like this: PG - Abrams SG - Beal SF - Thompson PF - Shaw/Miller C - Egwu

So much for A-Rod not being clutch.

Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) With so many juniors on the team (meaning lots of open scholarships for the 2011 class) combined with just how many good players (mainly in Illinois) that the Illini have a shot at, that could be a top 5 class nationally for them if Bruce and the staff are on their game. Get Beal and Blackshear somehow (although I think just getting one of them would do), and it could be even better than top 5. Blackshear's not coming to Illinois unless something drastic changes.

Nnanna Egwu to Illinois. 4* C in the 2011 class and also happens to rock the old school goggles. I love it.

When it used to be a game
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) No way I would have allowed my 12-year old to go unescorted to the locker room. I wonder why the team did it that way. Perhaps they felt it was better to negotiate with a 12-year old instead of an adult? The ball was his 200th and a MLB record for 200 in the fewest at bats. How many bats has he already signed? Seems like they took advantage of a 12-year old. I have a problem with the parents letting her go into the locker room alone and then suing the organization when they didn't like the outcome. I don't think the organization is in the right here either though. I didn't read the article closely enough and yes it was an autographed ball. I can't imagine a 200 HR ball even if it is a record is worth very much. Especially if it isn't authenticated as Howard's 200th HR.

When it used to be a game
Great job parenting. And I would guess a 200th HR ball is worth next to nothing. Can't imagine that an autographed bat from Ryan Howard would be worth any less than that ball.

Is there anything more ridiculous than a hitter getting on base by getting HBP on a pitch that is basically over the plate?
