Of course it also necessitates adding the player to the 40 man roster and options would start being used beginning in 2017, so Burdi would be out of options by the 2020 season if he spends parts of the next 3 years in the minors. Of course that would be his age 25 season and if he's not in the majors full time by then something has probably gone wrong.
