August 23, 20169 yr Author https://twitter.com/FutureSox Great Falls Voyagers @gfvoyagers Congrats to Alec Hansen! He earns his 2nd Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week honor, and is promoted to Kannapolis.
August 23, 20169 yr Author Hansen was also on the Prospect Team of the Week http://m.mlb.com/news/article/197052096/pr...picid=151437456 RHP: Alec Hansen, Great Falls Voyagers (Rookie) (White Sox' No. 8 prospect) 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 GS, 11 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 6 BB, 17 SO, 0.64 WHIP When Hansen's control fell apart this spring, he pitched himself out of Oklahoma's rotation and a shot at going No. 1 overall in the Draft. After the White Sox made some minor adjustments after signing him for $1.2 million as a second-rounder, the initial results have been terrific. Hansen allowed just one hit in two starts last week, including a 13-strikeout gem on Sunday, and now leads the Pioneer League with 59 whiffs in just 36 2/3 innings.
August 24, 20169 yr Author Oh crap, even Phil Rogers noticed. Phil Rogers @philgrogers 19m19 minutes ago #Whitesox may have struck gold w/Alec Hansen. He was wild at OU but has fanned 45, walked 11 in last 28 innings. 49th overall pick in June.
August 24, 20169 yr QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Aug 22, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) If everything goes well I'll assume Hansen finishes the year out in GF, attends fall instructs, and starts the year in W-S. He may be on the South Side by late 2018/2019 realistically...And if Sale/Q stick around: Sale, Q, Rodon, Fulmer, and Hansen make for a VERY nasty rotation It's fun and very optimistic to speculate but if that is ever the Sox rotation I'd be very surprised just because of injuries, trades, development and time needed for that to happen.
August 26, 20169 yr In January of this year how did Alec Hansen compare, as a prospect, to Carlos Rodon when he was at NC State?
August 26, 20169 yr QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 26, 2016 -> 08:49 AM) In January of this year how did Alec Hansen compare, as a prospect, to Carlos Rodon when he was at NC State? I recall scouts talking about Rodon as one of the 10 best pitchers on the planet during his Sophomore year at NC State. Here's a Keith Law chat question from December of 2015 about Hansen though: an: Early 2016 draft question but who goes #1? Klaw: If Alec Hansen is healthy, he’s my bet. Jason Groome and AJ Puk are possibilities too, although I think that’s too much for Puk – if I’m going pitcher at 1-1 I want a better athlete. Here's another article from June of 2015: http://www.reporterherald.com/sports/ci_28...en-could-be-top Here's a mock from April: http://dynastydigest.sportsblog.com/posts/...-draft-v-1.html Here's a writeup from reddit in January: https://www.reddit.com/r/MLBDraft/comments/...hp_alec_hansen/ Edited August 26, 20169 yr by Y2JImmy0
August 26, 20169 yr Author Yeah, I think Rodon had a way bigger hype leading in. I think he was the clear 1-1 for a long time while in college, while Hansen was a possible 1-1.
August 26, 20169 yr Author http://www.baseballamerica.com/chat/?1472226696 Greg (Chicago): Could you see Alec Hansen making your top 100 list? Ben Badler: If you had asked me two months ago, I would have said, no chance. Now, I don't know. Hansen has always had terrific stuff—it's not like he's just beating low-level hitters with a bunch of smoke and mirrors that won't translate at higher levels—but the difference between his results in college compared to what he's done with the White Sox is so striking that it's hard to know how to balance the two. We'll probably make more calls on him than anyone else over the next few months trying to figure out what to make of him going forward.
August 29, 20169 yr It was pretty awesome seeing the whole BA team at Hansens start on Friday. Pretty rare a sox spect gets that treatment.
August 30, 20169 yr Not familiar with the writer, but here's a scouting report from his kanny debut http://notesfromthesally.com/2016/08/29/sc...-by-dan-victor/
August 30, 20169 yr QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 07:07 PM) Not familiar with the writer, but here's a scouting report from his kanny debut http://notesfromthesally.com/2016/08/29/sc...-by-dan-victor/ Worst case scenario a power closer or a top of rotation starter! That sounds good either way!
August 31, 20169 yr QUOTE (CregerMax @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 07:25 PM) Worst case scenario a power closer or a top of rotation starter! That sounds good either way! Nice commentary on the article... I will add this: the worst case for any pitching prospect is their arm falls off.
