Holcomb looks fine on the sideline. But Fenwick still got stomped by BR and their backup QB Rocco Galasso 42-21.

Thanks. Here is what the Tribune said…

“Galasso, meanwhile, stepped in with Holcomb sidelined by what coach Casey Quedenfeld called “a dental issue” and passed for 150 yards and a score for the Crusaders (5-2).”

My son graduated tonight. He chose to wear his IHSA State Playoffs medallion and his State Championship ring. 🤣 Off to play OL at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin.

For those keeping score at home Lip Man is a BR alum as well.

  • To be fair their starting QB was out with injury, illness or something. I conveniently left that out, lol. Carmel looked like they had good pieces, it was one of those games that just went Rice's way

Is Marist rebuilding? Did they have a down year? Rice pounded them. So what is Rice's playoff outlook. Can they win again? Are they better than an 8 seed?

Marist was 6-4 but 0-3 in the conference. Marist just beat Neuqua Valley of Naperville this weekend in these new expanded joke of a playoffs, but now they get to face Mt. Carmel next Friday night. Good luck to them.

Brother Rice plays St. Charles North on Friday night whom they beat last November in the playoffs 42-18. They are definitely better than an 8 seed, as you can see by some of the teams that are ranked higher. This is the best QB they have had in years with three good RBs and they still have Kam McGee and Brayden Parks.

How's your son doing at St. Norb? Does he like it?

Yeah, he loves it. He’s still in his knee brace after surgery but is walking around fine already. They just pulled out a big win against Aurora University yesterday.

I saw Benet went 2-8 in its first year with some former NFL star James White at the helm. Benet is never "good" but never this bad. I wonder if this guy knows how to recruit. WS2023 do teams in the suburbs recruit as they do in the city? How did Rice get this phenom Holcomb? Did he live in the neighborhood or do we drive him in for class every day from LaGrange or somewhere?

Coach Q recruits kids from the Downers Grove Panthers Bill George Youth Football League (BGYFL), as he lives right in the area in Hinsdale. That’s how my son ended up going to BR and how he almost nabbed Owen Lansu when he was first hired as BR’s new coach. Lansu’s dad actually coached the Panthers and Q would attend many Panthers home games on the weekends at Doerhoefer Park, with his own kids in tow. Lansu chose DG North HS instead.

Sam Holcomb played for the DG Panthers as well and his dad Greg is a QB coach/trainer and owner of Next Level Quarterback Academy. He was J.J. McCarthy’s personal QB coach since grade school. I’m sure Coach Q met Holcomb and his dad at a Panthers game and convinced him to go to BR with CJ Gray leaving as a senior for West Point. Holcomb and his family used to live in Downers Grove but I think they have since moved to Carol Stream. He made it known via social media that he was headed to BR right after they won the state championship…
