There might be a deal in the works to give Paris the 2024 games, and LA the 2028 games.

Paris must be offering serious bribe $$$ to be able to jump LA like that. Europe has hosted both a summer and winter olympics since the last time North America hosted in 2010.

Damn, I'll be old in 2028

The IOC is just desperate for a city to sign and agree to host the Olympics, so many cities are finally saying, "Thanks, but no thanks".

Hosting the Olympics is like owning a boat, it's fun for everyone involved except for the owner who has to pay for everything.

With all of the cities dropping out for the 2024 they must really be scared to be trying to pull this off.

LA has made a deal for the 2028 Olympics, Paris gets 2024.

While hosting the Olympics usually sucks, it makes so much more sense for a city like LA to do it, just because so much of the stuff is already built.

I wonder how the Olympics could be revised to make it lighter and easier for cities to host.

One idea worth considering is multiple cities each olympics using existing facilities. You would not have all the athletes in one place at one time, but for security reasons that may not be an issue. I'm thinking TRack and Field in one city, baseball in another, swimming over there, rowing over here, etc.

And I hope they REFUSE to build something to spec when a reasonable alternative already exists.

Don't forget there are pressures from within the community that profit by new stuff getting built. They contribute to campaigns and know how to influence getting stuff they want. An Olympics is a great excuse to spread a little public money into the hands of key supporters under the Olympic rings.

IIRC part of the plan is to use the brand new stadium they're building for the Rams

The major US metros are really some of the few places that make any sense at all for the Olympics. The infrastructure already exists, so just use it. Building new stuff is idiotic.
