Outfield Overload - the Dash Five

Featured Replies

There are five outfielders in Winston-Salem that really should all be starting somewhere. It's a fun, super-talented group. Get to know them here, including video and a few quotes from coaches.

If they can stay healthy that's a talented group of potential impact players at the big league level.

Great article. Watching this team grow in A and a little in AA is a lot of fun to watch. I know all these guys won't pan out, but it is fun to watch and see which ones do.

Coming into today, Micker is at 10 K's in 54 PAs. Even better than the batting average, that is such a huge development for him. Hopefully that keeps up.

what's holding Basabe back in CF, routes?

is the hole in his UCL something that is just going to heal? Is there surgery being put off? Seems so strange to just have a bad elbow and not worry about it

I have seen no one talk about it in depth.

Route and glove work - maturity at the position, basically. He has the physical tools. So it's an open question.

Surgery is not 100% for sure. We've got a writer there tomorrow, who will interview Micker, and see what he has to say.

Appreciate the informative article!

As an ex-catcher myself, the Booker stealing home made me cringe. He'd better wear some extra padding next time he faces that catcher because he's probably getting drilled. What an exciting play.

Hahn described it as a "pinhole" tear that could heal on its own over the course of this year so that he doesn't need surgery. That would be the absolute best case scenario but in my estimation only has about a 50% chance of happening.

That said, say it doesn't heal well enough and he has to have surgery sometime in late August -- not awful. He still got a full year of PA and he'll probably be back sometime in June '19 as a full time position player again. He'll have to miss some development time in the offseason and spring but the most important thing is to not stall his progress at the plate this year and that has been avoided. Micker said he feels no pain when he swings so that's great.

thanks NorthSide for that info on Basabe. He certainly looked the part in spring from what I saw. Just send him film of Dee Gordon!
