Sports Medicine 101 - A guide to Sox prospect injuries, with some expert input

Featured Replies

A whole bunch of White Sox prospects are injured. You know this. Ken decided to run down the full list with their statuses, but also added their outlooks, and did so with the help of our own ptatc. The expert input helped us understand better the risks of these injuries to the players' long term health and outlook. Thanks ptatc!

Here's the rundown, which may seem depressing on first glance, but in the end it's not as bad as you might think.

That is great stuff.  As always thanks to @ptatc, you are an amazing asset to this message board.

Great article and thanks ptatc. Him and Cubano give some great insight that no others can. Hope Cubano is ok. Haven't seen him in a while

Going through that list is tough as a fan!

I get that these guys will be back and not all of them would ever be sure things to even make the majors, but yikes. As pointed out at the end of the article, it's definitely going to shift the rebuild back by 6-8 months between these injuries and the slower development of some of our guys (Giolito, Moncada, etc.). You have to wonder how that affects going after a guy like Machado -- we were already probably 50:1 dogs in that race, now closer to 100:1.

Its not the worst thing if the contention window is pushed back one year to 2021, but it does leave a huge issue with both Rodon and Moncada to a lesser extent.  Cleveland SHOULD be pretty much dead in the water after two more years, unless that system has more Lindors and Jose Ramirezes in the pipeline (F. Mejia?).

Actually, looked it up, Anderson and Moncada are theoretically gone after 2024 and 2023.  Not quite lining up like the Cubs with Bryant/Baez/Contreras being together as contenders for 6-7 years, though.

So yeah...what to do with Rodon?  For now, just stay healthy and hopefully put up a 3.5ish ERA.

Interesting read. All eyes will be on Hansen tonight.

The lack of information on Puckett is really odd. We didn’t get much information on Hansen’s status until he was ready to start his rehab. Zavala is trending in the same direction.  Is there a point to why information has to be so limited?
