Choke artists?

Featured Replies

Why is it that some guys who are absolute monsters can suck so badly in big situations. Miguel Tejada is just terrible during the post season year after year. I don't blame the A's for letting this guy walk away after this season. Chavez is another one. There are two of this biggest ones right here in Chicago in Frank and Sammy. It amazes me that these guys can be so good, but when it matters shrink like a penis in a cold pool.

That's why u need guys who can perform in da clutch. I know a lot of ppl knock Jeter and for good reason but he always seems to take it to another level in da playoffs.

I think this has to do with the atmosphere of the time and why Dusty's boys are performing well. I think the pressure in the playoffs can really get to a team and the mindset is huge. This is why i think the Braves lose, Bobby Cox is not a good playoff manager. Big choke artists....Andruw Jones, has this guy ever done anything. He could be one of the most over rated players around.

I have a hard time lumping Frank and Sammy (cough) in with the "choke artists" name, as they really haven't had that much experience with play-off ball. This is Sammy's second trip, and the first time was only three quick games. If they get through all of this and win it all, and he finishes with one RBI, then I will be more apt to call him a choke artist.

The last time Frank got into the post, the team was not all that sound, and none of them really should have been there. I stand by my belief that 2000 was a fluke and all luck.

The Atlanta guys though, such as Jones, yeah, choke.

Jeter is a freak of nature in post season. Hell, the Yankees are all freaks of nature in post season.

Andruw Jones blew up in the 1996 World Series, he was only 20 years old too. 8 for 20, 2 hr 6 rbi against the Yankees.

2 hr in one game if i remember correctly

clutch is everyting in life

Maybe he was talking about Chipper?

Did he do anything this year though? I watched the games, but they are a bit of a haze already. Plus, '96 was a few years ago, how has he been in the years since in the post?

He didn't do anything this year. Here is a link to Jones career postseason statistics. LINK

Not an embrassment, but nothing to really write home about either. He's done pretty well in the All-Star games though.

I would have to add the regular season 2003 White Sox to that list. Two games away from basically wrapping up the division and decided to go 4-14 to throw it away. So in this case, yes Frank deserves to be on that list.

Billy Beane is probably going ape s*** right now. Losing after being up 2 games to non.....AGAIN.

Jones busted into the leauge against the Dodgers when he hit like 4 hr's in his first series. He was only 20 or so at the time. This was in the playoffs.

Sorry, but I do not classify Andrew Jones as overrated.
