Richie Sexson Anyone?

He's going to be on the trade block. Could the Sox work a Sexson for Konerko swap. Don't know what Sexson contract is like, but he is a pretty solid firstbaseman and would be a great 5 hole hitter. Doubt its worth it though, since the Sox are going to be wanting to cut salary when they move Konerko.

The key will be having a very strong 5 man rotation. You never know what will happen with Elo next year although I think Buehrle will bounce back with his first 20 game season and I'm feeling Cy Young Potential.

Why would the Brewers make that trade? Sexson's numbers were huge and Konerko's were... well.... not. Next year's salary about the same.

I have always appreciated the way Sexson plays. He'd be a good addition to the Sox if we could get him at a decent cost.

I don't disagree with you there. I just can't see them doing a Sexson for Konerko swap.

It would likely have to include a prospect or two coming from the Sox as well, but I agree with you in that I don't see it happening.

I could see it happening, but we'd end up giving up at least two level A prospects.

Sexson would be a great add, but it would still leave us too many unskilled slow players. We HAVE to break that log jam. Geesh watching the Marlins has really driven that point home.

But we also need a left handed hitting thumper.

I don't think it will happen either. Why would any team take Konerko's salary and 2003 stats? Sexson for Konerko and two prospects won't happen either because I think we about prospected ourselves out going for the money this season. I think all we can hope for is that Paulie can rebound in 2004 for us.

That's what I was going to say. I wouldn't mind Sexson, but he wouldn't unclog the righties in our lineup. I'd take it to get rid of Konerko though.

I know we need more line up balance but I will go out on a limb and say I would rather have Castillo or Pierre than Sexson in our line up, if it stays close to as is.

We are not going to get Pierre. No way, no how. I hope we do get Castillo though.

Konerko makes 8.5 million if traded. Sexson earns 8.0 million in 2004. We would not be saving anything really, so why bother giving up a Neil Cotts or an Emencio Pacheo for him?

Because Sexon is a hell of a lot better than Konerko.

Yeah but you want to slash payroll and get pitchers...

f*** Sexson. I'd rather have starting pitching and ballplayers that hit the ball on the ground and leg it out with speed..... then steal bases. A line-up stacked with power has only gotten us 2nd Place two years in a row in a division that was totally winnable both seasons..... at the start atleast.

So is the concensus no on Sexson?? LOL

Yeah but you want to slash payroll and get pitchers...

If you slash payroll, you can't get pitchers.....unless your pitchers include Jamie Navarro and Antonio Osuna.

The White Sox will NOT slash payroll....because if they do, Reinsdorf will be alienating the fans once again, and as far as I'm concerned, until ownership is changed, I won't follow the White Sox(not that big of a deal though....I've never attended a game at the Cell before in my life. However, I'm sure I wouldn't be the only person with those feelings, and I'm sure that some of the people with those feelings do attend games at the Cell). Voting for the strike in 94 hurt him, the White Flag trade in 97 damn near killed him; if he goes out and slashes payroll after having one of the higher drawing years in quite a while(probably since 94 I suppose) along with higher ticket prices last year, then he can expect the attendance to be about an average of somewhere around 7,500-10,000 a game....or in other words, Expos-territory.

On the Sexson subject....JMHO, but I say no. We struck out too much as a team this past year, and to bring on a guy that strikes out 150 times and is still just as slow would not be a good move. Trade Maggs, and try to get rid of Konerko while taking on as little money as possible, resign Colon, sign Castillo and Cabrera, and you have yourself a pretty good team. And with the remaining money, try to get a good LH bat for the middle of the order(I don't understand why we couldn't put Daubach there....if you get rid of Konerko, I think that he'd be an OK choice for 1B)

By slashing payroll, it was meant to rid of large contracts the club could do without. Trading Maggs for solid young (cheap) players would be slashing payroll. Not necessarily in the overall number, but in losing large contracts and getting more, cheaper players. Theoretically, you could have two $7 million pitchers for Maggs, definitely not Navarro and Osuna.

I just saw he was on the market so I was going to throw that name out there. If he has a longer contract then Konerko and you can't swap Konerko, I wouldn't see it as a bad thing if you could do the deal straight up. I find it highly unlikely but I've seen Milwalkee do so many stupid things.

I know what you are talking about. But when I think of slashing payroll, I think cut back, lower the overall payroll, and rebuild. I don't think about trading our big contracts and getting more decently sized contracts and good players. I just am not sure what I'd call that.

Sexson is a hell of a lot better than Konerko. For that swap to happen we'd have to throw in Honel or Cotts in there.

And I agree with everything Killa said, a Konerko-Sexson type player is not needed around here.

We have enough big/slow.......1b/Dh guys already

We are stuck with Konerko for 2 more years. Other than the Dodgers, who would want him? Which team could he help in 2004?
