Great Falls Roster Released

Featured Replies

I find Sam Abbot being there a bit interesting.  I would not have been surprised if he was in AZL for another year.

My takeaways:

- Some jumps I didn't expect. Kleydar Sanchez barely played in AZL last year and did not hit, but he's up there. Sam Abbot was moved up.

- There is a lot of fun in the position players:

  • Last years HS crop Delgado, Maldonado and Weaver are moving up a level (Weaver performed best).
  • Quintero, Mieses and Comas from '17 and '16 classes performed decent last year and should be fun to watch.
  • Cam Simmons is someone I think will be a lot of fun in short season ball.
  • I'm a little surprised Osik isn't on Great Falls

- This pitching staff is full of seniors and 5th year seniors. It may be pretty good statistically. Ramon Pineda and Brayan Herrerra from 2016 intl class movin on up. Herrera does not K a lot, but he's got good control. He's 21 though so his stuff may be not good. Pineda is Michael's brother and was pretty terrible last year.

Exciting positional group, not a single pitcher who is 20 years old.

Those are my words exactly.  Actually, I was expecting him to be sent back to the DSL this year... he's only 19.

He hit .342 in 43 games in the DSL in 2017.

He hit .094 in 22 games in the AZL in 2018.

The Sox have seen him play... I haven't.  Numbers don't tell the whole story.

It seems as if the Sox want the 11th rounder Torres to get lots of time in AZL and their 8th rounder from West Virginia will head there as well.

I mean this guy was a 100k signing. It’s amazing if he plays a game in the majors.
